Viral Speak 09-20-2002
Think anyone will notice?

Philip is listening to: Watching the Sailor Moon movies, uncut of course. This series is always getting the shaft from anime fans; because it's marketed specifically at a female audience in the USA. Over all, it's a better paced series than say.. Dragon Ball Z. Each episode has a definate beginning and end with bits and pieces of plot concerning whatever story arc it is in. The series had fives seasons. Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon Super S, and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. The darkest move would be R, followed by S, then Super S. S is my favorite season with the whole Messiah/Sailor Saturn/Soveriegn of Silence deal. Least favorite is Super S with the Unicorn.. the darkest would be Sailor Stars.. with its stepped up nudity, sexually charged overtones, violence, and the whole thing with major characters and minor characters getting slaughtered. I can't wait for the Uncut first two seasons box sets from ADV and.. hopefully Sailor Stars from Pioneer.. Well.. onto a short Viral Speak!
Kirby told me that pikachu is evil. I believe him. - Shizzle-Kins
Philip: Kirby may suck; but Kirby never lies. Believe in Kirby. Pikachu.. wanders the Earth in search of souls..
gasp! i know i'm a little behind the times here, but i'm mildy confused and disheartened by rare's new allegiance with microsoft. now i have to spend $200 on another console? bummer. any deep thoughts of you own? - zero
Philip: Well, I personally won't miss Rare. I don't think it's a shame that Microsoft will be getting games from them; but I can't help but feel sad for both companies. You see, Microsoft is a bit more.. impatient than Nintendo is and when the first Rare game for the XBox gets delayed several times.. the big M may force them to just release it... as is. I don't like that idea. Imagine if Perfect Dark hadn't had over four years or so of work on it. Rare makes good games, when they have time. Otherwise.. they crank out absolute crap like most of their Game Boy titles and a good portion of their SNES, and N64 titles..Although, for those wondering about Perfect Dark. If it came out from Rare on XBox.. I wouldn't buy it. Why? Almost all of the Goldeneye/Perfect Dark team has already left the company and is in other companies like Retro, Revolution, and Bungie. Also, Nintendo has been very.. friendly with letting others play with their licenses. Personally, would you want the next Jet Force Gemini by a Rare or would you rather it be done by Sega? Personally, I would trust Sega with Legend of Zelda and Mario. But not so with Rare. Well, needless to say, I'm impartial about it.
Thinking about moving out and the finical crap that goes along with it sucks! I wish life was just like the way it's carried out in Animal Crossing.

Walk around, talk to neighbors, do errands for neighbors, sell fruit, have a no interest loan... I mean, sweet jesus, that would be wonderful!! Then, when everything is said and done I could just go home and play some Donkey Kong for a while! It's be great.

Make life like this, Philip! Don't do it for me, do it for yourself and for your country!! - Salohcin Geen
Philip: Animal Crossing is the new reality. Do not resist it.
Wow! It's been a while! So, how about that Rare leaving Nintendo? - Admiral Tailz
Philip: Well, maybe it'll all work out for them and I wish them the best. Ah, well.
Heh heh heh...  You caught the cold I had earlier.  And at least you have the zombie-medicine I needed to get over it... - CX (This is one of those times when Viral Speak was *literally* infectious...)
Philip: Other than an insatible lust for brains.. I'm doing okay! If it gets worse.. I'll just go down to THQ and munch on their brains... they won't miss them. Although.. it's getting to be slim pickings.. you know?
must get shinework.......I mean.....must do homeshine...... - Nitro
Philip: Good God people! What are you going to do when Metroid Prime comes out? Well.. if you're like me and have a paid vacation.. well.. you know what I'm gonna do. Take a WEEK off... and get paid.

ZERGLINGS! WE ALL LOVE THE ZERGLINGS! THEY EXPLODE! - Imakuni? Neo
Philip: Serve the HIVE!
I've got something I'd like to get off my chest.  (removes Excel)  OK, now that that's over with, I want to talk about games...  Seems to me that Nintendo, while making some very original games for the Cube, is sort of slacking off when it comes to the GBA...  I mean, take a look at their lineup for the Cube...  new versions of Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero (yeah, these are Rare/Namco and Sega, but still), and original stuff like Animal Crossing and the like...  but the GBA gets primarily ports of old SNES games from Nintendo.  Metroid Fusion?  It's the Super Metroid engine with some new tweaks and a new map.  Super Mario World was just reformatted for the smaller screen...  ditto with Zelda and Yoshi's Island.  I'm not belittling these games, or saying they don't deserve to be made-- not enough people cowered in fear of the old-school skills needed for those games-- but what I'm saying is that they're not even porting the most deserving games.  They're milking the most popular franchises for all they're worth, and ignoring the most overlooked stuff that had a devoted, hard-core following.  Like Battleclash, Earthbound, a few of the more unique/obscure platformers (Ardy Lightfoot comes immediately to mind), and RPGs in general (Fire Emblem, more Wars titles).  If I were in charge (and I should be) I'd devote some effort to porting over games that undeservedly were left as Japan-only (Fire Emblem, Star Fox 2); or simply didn't get the exposure they should have (Mario & Wario).  It's a good premise for a game company...  In fact...  well...  it's what I would do if I had, oh, $10 million in venture capital. - CX (So, anybody got a spare $10 million lying around, and a healthy devotion to classic/retro/obscure gaming?)
Philip: Well, honestly, I can see what Nintendo is doing by porting over a lot of titles that some of the newer gamers haven't played. Although.. Metroid Fusion.. is a lot more than just Super Metriod with new graphics. It's a direct sequel and it is more of a brand new game than a "copy" of Super Metroid. I know.. I've played it. ^_^

The future is what we infect it to be.
