Wario Land 3 Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Farfetch'd joshnickerson@usa.net Size: 32 megs Save: 1 save slot Released: 2000 Works with: Gameboy Color exclusive **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Hmmm, Wario in another Gameboy game? What happened to Mario? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: As in Wario Land 2, Wario cannot die! When he gets hit by enemies, he turns into new forms, and he can use those forms to solve puzzles. In this game, there are four keys and four treasure chests in each level, but Wario must learn new moves in other levels before he can reach all four. Wario must eventually explore every cranny of each level to find all 100 treasures in the game, but a few sections are extremely frustrating, and younger players might give up before finishing the game. Liked: No die gameplay. Hated: Same as Wario Land 2; some frustrating sections **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Possibly the best GBC game yet, the screen is filled with vibrant color. Color plays an important part in gameplay, as you must find the key that matches the color of the chest it opens. Short cut scenes between levels are impressive for the small screen. Most of the enemies are brightly colored, but Wario himself still looks monocromatic. Why can't his shirt be yellow instead of white? But other than that, this game looks excellent. Liked: Excellent colors. Character graphics and animation are astounding. Hated: Nothing really **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The sound is a notch up from previous Wario adventures, maybe because the game is set up in a music box world. The music is forgettable, but still very good. The sound effects are leftovers from Wario Land 2. Liked: The soundtrack isn't annoying like in WL2. Hated: Sound effects are leftovers from WL2. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The control is very precise, though it can get confusing when you change forms and the controls change as well. Also, as Wario learns new moves, you could forget how to pull them off. However, one visit to the pause screen can fill you in. The level design is better than the previous game, but there are still some frustrating areas that players will have to play over and over again to get past them. Having the temple tell you where you have to go next in the zig-zagging level design was a good addition. Liked: Solid controls; good level design. Hated: Some frustrating areas. **************************************************************************** Improve: The no die gameplay is great, but it's starting to get tiring with Wario Land 3. Perhaps the next Wario game should go back to it's Mario roots... or perhaps Mario should star in a GBC game again... RIYL: Wario Land 2 **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you enjoyed Wario Land 2, you'll enjoy this one. If you hated Wario Land 2, steer clear of this one. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ****** Personal Opinion: ****** Total: 25 Final Score: 100% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
