Wario Land II Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Nick destes@sd69.bc.ca Size: 8 MB Save: Battery packed memory with one save slot Released: 1998 Works with: Compatible with all GameBoys Opening Side Remarks: Ahhh... Wario. I had heard sooo much about Wario Land II from the Message Board I go to. It seemed like everyone had Wario Land II. So I asked about it to see if it was really as good as everyone thought, and all I got was answers saying "Get it". Gameplay: If you've played Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, don't expect it to be the same. This is totally different and in no way resembles Mario. I like Wario a lot because he's so much tougher than Mario. He has cool moves like Ground Pound and Body Slam (well, that's what I call them anyway because they don't have a name). There are over 50 levels and, like, 12 bosses to defeat. Lots of enemies, puzzles and mini games. Some of the things I really like is how you can throw enemies. First you jump on its head to stun it, then pick it up. You can also choose how hard you want to throw the enemy, and you can throw it up, left, and right. Another neat thing is when you see an enemy, there are four ways to kill it. First you could Body Slam it, or you could do a Ground Pound on its head, or you could pick it up and throw it at a wall, or you could pick it up and throw it at another enemy (therefore killing both enemies). Another great thing is how there are five different ways you can beat the game, which makes up for a lot of hours of gameplay. A really big bonus is that Wario can't die! There are no game-overs. The only thing that happens if you get hit is that you lose coins. But the problem with this is that you need LOTS of coins to beat the game. But the thing I think really sticks out is that Wario has about nine different forms that he can become, each form helping him get further in the game. The story of the game is... well... like I said there are five different ways to beat the game. So there's so many ways to end it. But you could just follow the main route and beat the main enemy of the game... Captain Syrup. But anyway, on to Graphics, I could go on forever here. Graphics: The Graphics in this game are excellent! They're so very crisp and clear on GameBoy Color and GameBoy Pocket. I never had any troubles seeing anything in the game. Everything is so well done - the levels, the bosses, the enemies, and Wario himself. It's all such great work. Sound: Let's see... There are so many gobs of great sounds in this game! It's really hard to explain, there's just so many. You'll just have to get the game and hear them for yourself. Music: Much the same as Sounds, just so many! Each type of level has its own music, boss music is all the same, but that's okay. Anyway, I thought all the music was great! Play Control: Press "B", Wario jumps, press "A", Wario runs. Nothing wrong here. Replay Value: Lots of replay. You'll have to go back to many of the levels to get the treasures, coins and other stuff. I still play this game and enjoy doing it. Final Analysis: If you like Mario stuff and want something completely different then get Wario Land II. You'll love it... trust me.
