Warlocked Game by Nintendo Reviewed by PWGDB Meerdotjay@hotmail.com Size: 32 megabits Save: Battery, autosaves progress and cheats found, one in-game save per campaign Released: 2000 Works with: Game Boy Color only **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Real Time Strategy? On the GBC? I have to admit, I was not expecting much from this game. I had finished everything else I had, and I really couldn't find anything else that looked even barely good. I had seen a *very* sparse preview, and I was intrigued by the idea of some RTS on the go, but it still seemed like a gamble. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: This game has got some super awesome gameplay. At first, while I read the manual, it just seemed like a dumbed down version of Warcraft for the PC. Boy was I wrong. The strategy is here in spades. You'll find that even though there are only a few normal units, the real meat of the game is in the wizards you rescue and recruit. Each game pak randomizes how many of the 26 odd wizards you can find. The only way to get 'em all is to use the Pokemon-esque trading feature. These wizards definitely affect play strategies. The two sides, humans and beasts, both are about the same, although some wizs only can be used by one side. the human campaign is a bit easier, giving you more time than the beasts do to learn the game. As for multiplayer, I couldn't yet find anyone who owns this diamond in the rough, so I can't tell you from experience, but what we have here is wizard trading, head-to-head (if you get bored with the maps they provide, you can find more strewn about the single-player maps), and a funky statistics based army thingy. Try it out if you find a partner. Liked: Everything Hated: Only four units and three buildings? Ouch. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Wow. That should be enough. but if it's not, I'll tell you. The graphics are beeeee-utiful. The units are clear and easy to distinguish, the terrain is purty, and the menu is neato! Liked: Everything Hated: The box art. Please ignore it. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: This is (Surprise!) another great thing about the game. A lot of voice samples. I love hearing that goblin go, "Yes master"! I loved listening to the wizards' screams of fear as they're held captive! The music was good enough to want to listen to! And that singing, piano playing goblin in the sound test? Magnifique! Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The interface is intuitive enough to get used to in a blink, although your units automatically stop when you click on them, which can be a pain. And the AI isn't anything to write home about. Liked: Mostly everything Hated: A few niggles, nothing serious **************************************************************************** Improve: Add a little more regular units. Fix the AI. And for God's sake, get a real artist for the box! RIYL: Well, there aren't any real game boy examples for this, but if you like games like warcraft or starcraft for the PC or N64, this game's for you! **************************************************************************** Final Words: Buy this now! It's great, and if you get a little tired, try to find the secret games hidden in the campaign, like poker or slider! This game's up there with "Metal Gear: Solid" and "Zelda: Link's Awakening" **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: 5 stars Graphics: 5 stars Sound/Music: 5 stars Play Control/Game Design: 4 stars Personal Opinion: 5 stars Total: 24 Final Score: 96% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
