Here it goes. The review.+ **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: V-Rally 99 is a racing game by infogrames. Racing games are basically racing games. Its the little things that set this game apart from the rest. When you turn the game on, the first thing you see is the main screen (thats a no-brainer). The graphics are sweet on this screen. You have the choice of Championship, Arcade, and options. On championship, your objective is to drive through all 20 tracks, earning a point if you place first in a race. A point is good for one continue if you run out of time. It takes forever to complete championship mode without a precious battery save slot. Ugh. There isnt even an option to enter a password to continue where you left off. Just all the way through. Then there's Arcade mode. There are 4 easy tracks, 6 medium, and 10 hard in this mode. 4 cars can be chosen to drive in on the game. Passwords are used here. On the options screen, you can turn off signs, enter your name, adjust difficulty, enter password, or adjust the KMH to MPH. Liked: A good racer. Hated: Battery save, anyone? No two player..... **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics on this game are awesome. Each track is different. The roads are bumpy, flat, hilly....anything. Everything is clearly visible, including rain and snow falling occasionally. Detailed scrolling backgrounds, too. Unfortunatly, your cars only have four colors on them. Detailed, but not colorful...but this isn't a big problem. Also, you really get a sense of speed. The scrolling background, the stripes in the grass, the lines in the road, they all are good for a feeling of speed. Liked: Graphics are great in every way. Hated: Nothing really. The car colors are basically not a problem. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Audio is great. Songs come on for each screen, all catchy. During a race, there is no music, the way I like it. You can hear the engine roaring, the car crashes, and jumps. All good. Liked: Good sound. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The game is never really boring. With 20 levels, you don't know whats coming next. Excitement is always there, especially with jumps and things in the road. Each level is long and different. Instead of laps on tracks, you race from point A to point B. When you want to move, your car moves. Good control. Liked: Nice game control and design. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Battery save. More colorful cars. No two player games. RIYL: Top Gear Pocket, F-1 race. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Despite a few problems, in my opinion this game is still the best racer currently for gameboy. The passwords aren't long, and the overall driving experience is fun and life-like. A good pick up-put down type game. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** (4 stars) Graphics: ***** (5 stars) Sound/Music: ***** (5 stars) Play Control/Game Design: **** (4 stars) Personal Opinion: ***** (5 stars) Total: 23 stars Final Score: 92% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: The password for all the easy and medium tracks in Arcade mode is FAST. The password for all the easy-hard tracks in Arcade mode is FOOD. +Editor's Note: Well, we did have only an import review of this title before this review... and that was it.. but now we have the US version review. :)
