Star Trek Generations Game by Absolute Reviewed by John Craig john@dmgice.com Save: password Released: 1994 Works with: all Gameboys, SuperGameboy enhanced (grey pack) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Very funny Scotty, now beam down my pants. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Star Trek Generations is the famous movie that made the transition from the original movie cast, to the Next Generation cast. Oh, yeah, and thereıs this Gameboy game of it too. I find that it excels as a paper weight. The game has four different engines that it uses during gameplay. Unfortunately three of them suck, and the other is very old and outdated. Two of the game engines are puzzle games. One being a bad version of the game ŒPipe Dreamı for Gameboy, and the other being a boring sequence game. The third is a overhead view of any one of the characters when you are on the surface of a planet or station, featuring slow response time and frustrating game play. The last is the Œin flightı engine that any players of the old NES Star Trek: TNG will recognize, which was actually pretty good 3D flight engine, but most of the features are gone on this game, and it isnıt used much. Liked: very little, the games story is the only thing that kept me playing to the end. Hated: Every mission that didnıt take place in space. Every original engine in the game is...bad. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Imagine the face of Kirk and Picard glaring dramatically at you while the Enterprise is zooming off in the distance. Ok, now put the box down and turn the game on. Simple blocky sprites is the name of the game, kids. The only good parts are the cut scenes before each mission, they are actual photos from the movie (i.e.. they look exactly like Gameboy Camera photos.) Liked: The photo shots before each mission Hated: mmm...everything else **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The good part of this game. The Next Generation theme is what you hear at the title screen, all the other music is pretty good. There is no music during the flight missions though. The sound effects on the old flight engine are the same as theyıve always been. Liked: Good, recognizable music Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The in flight controls are Ok, everything else, isnıt. The Œoverheadı controls are slow and your shots seem to be barely faster than you. Liked: in flight controls Hated: everything else **************************************************************************** Improve: Donıt even try, buy Star Trek: The Next Generation for GB if you want a good si-fi game. RIYL: Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: The 25th Anniversary **************************************************************************** Final Words: Fine, blow up the planet, see if I care. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: * Graphics: ** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: * Personal Opinion: ** Total: 9 Final Score: 36% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: To play the final level in the game you have to know the name of the starship that picks up the crew at the end of the film. If you donıt feel like watching the movie to find out, itıs 'Farragut'.
