Spy Vs. Spy Game by Kemco Reviewed by Fonebone12 kermit167@yahoo.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: Password (Easy to remember pass's like in Crazy Castle 3) Released: 1999 Works with: Game Boy Color Only **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I've always been a mad fan. Alot of the stuff is funny some of it's kinda overboard but.. I never got to play the NES version. See, my father was a reader of Mad so when I wanted to rent Spy Vs. Spy he disapproved because of the violence in the Spy Vs Spy comics, (C'mon i was like 4 years old!). I bought it cause of the reviews it was getting. It sounded like a sleeper hit and well, it is. Can't go wrong with a game that includes a poster! **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Your mission: Recover briefcase and 4 items before the other spy does. While doing this you can set traps, fight hand-2-hand, or defuse traps to outwit or out muscle your opponent through 32 levels. Item position and Exit locations are random which add's to the replay value along with Easy, Normal, and Hard settings-which only change time limits. The game is very very very fun and very very very frantic. The cool part is that the game can turn around in a second. The cool part is that there is no way to totally master the game. Though I haven't gotten a chance to try it, Two player mode is probably even more fun with smarter (hopefuly) opponents. Liked: Very, Very frantic action, requires a good stragety. Hated: HHMMMmmmm.... It would be cool if each area had different traps and weapons. There is a learning curve, but the in game tutorial (training) helps you out alot. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Graphics are good, Not amazing... But there is great detail in the enviorments and some cool effects. Everything looks 3D. Otherwise it's kinda grainy. But the effects and cutscenes make up for it. I also would've loved more cut scenes. Liked: The cutscenes and the ingame animations were cool. Hated: Sprites are kinda small. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is very "Spy" like. It's cool but doesn't fit in any one genre. It's fitting but some of it is too serious and could be a bit more comical. I must mention how well the music was made. It's some of the best music for a Gameboy game that i've heard. The sounds are cool. I LOVE the snickering.. Explosions could be more 'Explosive' though. Liked: Good Music Hated: Weak explosions. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Control is par, it sometimes feels kinda sticky. The only problem that i've found is sometimes i run into walls around doors rather then through the doors. Scrolling through traps isn't easy but I don't think it could be any better. The menu's are very annoying, you have to go through alot before starting a game. Liked: Nothing stand out. Hated: Bad excuse for menu's. **************************************************************************** Improve: Mini games, more more enviorments, and more traps. RIYL: NES version. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Great Game! Gotta love the Poster. I think that "Certified Mad" should be one of DMGICE's slogins..... **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: * * * * * Graphics: * * * * Sound/Music: * * * * Play Control/Game Design: * * * Personal Opinion: * * * * * Total: ********************* Final Score: 84% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: To see the ending, put in the password- Z4W4P and complete that last "Spy Car" level. The password for all the levels completed is- 15Y24
