Spot: The Video Game Game by Virgin Reviewed by Chris Read chrisdread@aol.com Save: none Released: September 1991 Works with: every Game Boy Opening Snide Remarks: Remember that 7-up character called Spot and it was the spot between the 7 and the Up, but they made it into a character with sunglasses and arms and legs? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I don't either. Well, anyway, there are games out there based on this long lost relic. Gameplay: It's a board game. It's like Othello, but different. You have these men on this board, and you keep laying them down. If you put a man next to any of the eight spaces surrounding it that have your opponent's men on them, you get those men. Play ends once the board is filled. There's this option that you can play by yourself controlling both players, which is really great for beginners. The computer-controlled opponent is really tough to beat, though. Graphics: Bland. Not that it needs to have excellent graphics. I have a little trouble recognizing which are the gray characters and which are the black ones. Solved with a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance. Sound: Bling, bleep, you know, basic Game Boy-ish sounds. Music: Stupid. Annoying especially when you're trying to think and then it starts playing. But, you can always turn the sound down so you can't hear it. You don't really need to play it with any sound, actually. Play Control: The options menu is kind of flaky. You have to press buttons like five times in order to get it to do whatever you want it to do. The game itself is fine. Final Analysis: It's a very interesting game, and a mediocre one at that.
