Rampage: World Tour Game by Midway Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: None Released: 1998 Works with: All GB's **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Rampage on NES was tight. You go all around the USA as George and Lizzy; eating people, taking a dip, punching buildings, knocking down buildings, punching each other, destroying cars and tanks, hitching a ride on the blimp, and wreaking havoc. Game Boy Color has chose instead to do the recent arcade adaption of the old Rampage, Rampage World Tour (which is about the same thing once you strip away all of the rendered graphics. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: I personally thought this game was awesome. It's a time waster, yes, but all arcade adaptions are. This is a fun game. It doesn't need RPG elements or anything to prove that, either. You play as George, Lizzy, or Ralph. They are these monsterous creatures that have gone bad. They all control about the same. This lady is like, studying you or something, finding out why you are messing up the towns. She keeps your score and stuff. She also has cleavage. Big-time. Destroying all of the buildings is one of your main objectives. You have to find power-ups, and eat people to stay alive. There are people shooting you from helicopters and on the ground. This was one of the first "destruction without a cause" games. You know, games where all you have to do is blow stuff up to win. Like Blast Corps, without the nuclear missle on wheels. (Wow, take that thing out and you'd actually have a good game.) Liked: Great fun. Hated: Sometimes repetitive. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: What scared me was when I saw that the characters were rendered. I thought the frame rate would be horrendous. But, it's not. Good job, Midway. The game retains the arcade look. The explosions are cool, and sometimes you just want to run around the town in circles because you look so cool doing it. Liked: Framerate is good. Hated: Blurry at times. Needed more colors. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Um, sound FX aren't too good. They sound like Atari. Music isn't too good either. But that's not what it's about. The beat of the songs keeps the pace of the game. Liked: Songs don't really deteriorate the game, just annoy you sometimes. Hated: Beep. Blip. vvvvvvvvvrrrrrrrrr......booom. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Sometimes aligning with a building (to climb up it) is tough. Also, you can't eat when you're on the move. That helicopter gets you even if you stop for just a second. Liked: Solid control all-around. Hated: Some minor problems. **************************************************************************** Improve: More variety of play. RIYL: The arcade game, the original arcade game, Blast Corps, blowing stuff up in general **************************************************************************** Final Words: Sit down, and have a play. Video games are just distractions anyways. So it doesn't matter if every level is about the same, as long as you can sit back, relax, and have fun with a game for a while. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 21 Final Score: %84 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
