Robot Wars Game by Tiertex Reviewed by Dade thrasher@inconnect.com Size: 8M Save: Battery Released: 2000 Works with: Game Boy Color Only **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Robot Wars isn't the best robot contest show on the air, neither the most exciting. Of course, I haven't really seen a game like this on the GBC yet, so I decided to check it out. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: The option of building your own robot is pretty nice. The selections for building your robot aren't too vast, but if you watch the show, there isn't really much of a difference in all of the robots entered :D It has quite a few of the "stages" from the show, such as Skittles, where you use your robot to knock over barrels, and Deathmatch, there you fight against other robots. The only thing I didn't like is the questionable area of when you are hitting or missing the other robot in Deathmatch. Liked: Solid gameplay, creating my own robot Hated: Questionable hit/miss system **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics are pretty standard for a Game Boy game. The opening animation is pretty cool, though. There isn't much to say about these graphics. Liked: Standard graphics Hated: Nothing great about the graphics **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: UGH! TURN OFF THE SOUND. The music is the same throughout the entire game, even the menu! And it blows, too. The sound, well, the sound gets its work done. Not well, but it does. Liked: Nothing Hated: Music, sound effects, pretty much everything **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls are kinda funky. You'll be going forwards and trying to turn, and suddenly you're backwards before even going 90 degrees. That can be fixed quickly, but it really sucks when you're about to score a key blow on the enemy and suddenly you're going backwards. Liked: Basic controls Hated: Sudden flipping of the robot **************************************************************************** Improve: Get a better sound track! The sound really hurts my ears. Also, working on the controls and the hit/miss system couldn't hurt. I don't think there's a multiplayer option, either. That would really help the replay value. RIYL: *shrug* Like I said, I've never seen a game like this on Game Boy Color :D **************************************************************************** Final Words: I'm sure you could have fun with this game, experimenting with different robots and such. Making an all-around good robot would be quite a bit of fun, especially since that idea varies from person to person. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: 3 Graphics: 3 Sound/Music: 0 Play Control/Game Design: 3 1/2 Personal Opinion: 3 1/2 Total: 13 Final Score: 52% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Nope.
