Rampart Game by Midway Reviewed by Dominus wanderso@optonline.net Size: 8 megabits Save: None Released: November 1999 Works with: Gameboy Color only **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I've always liked arcade games like Centipede, Space Invaders, etc. and though I've never played Rampart in arcade form, it looks pretty challenging. Let's see how it turns out. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: The story is pretty simple: an armada of enemy ships is in your cove. You must destroy enemy ships with cannons while building your castle up to defend it from ground-based invasion. It's basic arcade fare: no story and right into the action. The booklet is pitifully sparse, though. Liked: Right into the game Hated: poor booklet **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Rampart is not a great graphics game. This area consists of my biggest complaints about the game. The game is blandly colored, consisting mostly of red, green, and blue. The sprites are also too small, which makes putting your castle back together difficult. Not to mention shooting ships. There is, if you look closely, some color-bleeding too. Liked: Well, you can see the whole screen without scrolling... Hated: It's bland and hard to see **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Not much in this area. One of the best thing about the sound is that there are digitalized voice samples! And they're not too scratchy, either. There is gunshot sound too, and they sound good. The music consists of a slightly annoying song played over and over and over... Liked: Good voice samples! Hated: That song...arrrggghh! **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: This is what makes the game so fiendishly difficult. The play is above average, but rotating those pieces! It's fun, but very, very, difficult. Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Improve: It's pretty much fine as it is. RIYL: Centipede, Space Invaders **************************************************************************** Final Words: Well, Rampart turned out to be an addictive, fun, and fiendish game. Even though it's difficult, Rampart is worth playing and is a lot of fun. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 22.5 Final Score: 88% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Do you honestly think this game has cheats? You do? Well, you're wrong.
