Rampage 2: Universal Tour Game by Midway Reviewed by Primeval Primeval1@ignmail.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: Password (Argh! Why?!) Released: 1999 Works with: Color Only, byatch! **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Despite what people say about the Rampage series, despite the bad reviews the games always get, I love the series. It's repetitive, yes. But repetitive doesn't automatically equal a bad game. Smashing and destroying $#!+ is fun. That's why we have Godzilla and King Kong movies. This is just like those movies, only you're doing the smashing and destroying. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: If you've played one Rampage game, you've played them all. You pick a monster and romp through over 100 cities. You climb buildings and punch out the windows. You kick the buildings to level them to a pile of rubble. You pick up people off the street, throw them up into the air, catch them in your mouth, and grind their bones with your teeth. There's a plot in there somewhere, 3 people get turned into monsters, they go rescue their monster friends, blah blah blah. Who cares? I want to destroy some $#!+, and this game lets me. The game has a sense of humor, too. Ted Koppel the news man is in it! Liked: Imagining the people I hate are the people in the game, and killing them! Hated: It gets a tad repetitive after a few dozen cities. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Remember the digital graphics of Donkey Kong Land? Imagine those graphics, only with a huge rat, a huge lobster, and a huge rhino instead of monkeys. The monsters look great, but the people, buildings, and cars look a little bland. Even worse, when a building gets leveled, it doesn't go crashing into the ground. Instead, the stories disappear, one by one, until it's gone. Lame. Liked: Excellent looking monsters. Hated: Building animations suck. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Wow, they're not cutting us any slack, are they? Maybe I could rate the sound better if any sound effects existed! Punch a building, nothing. A building comes crashing down, nothing. A helicopter explodes in mid-flight, nothing. The only sound effect is the scream you hear when you eat a person. That's it. The music is equally crappy, with only 2 songs played in the whole game. Long story short, you're not missing anything if you play with the volume all the way down. Liked: What's to like? Hated: Well...just about every damn thing! **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The control is awkward at best. B punches, A jumps, but to kick you have to press A+B. Well let's see. How about using A as kick, since you never even need to jump? Nothing pisses me off more than a retarded control scheme. Well, gameplay as bad as Mortal Kombat probably pisses me off a tad bit more, but you get the picture. Liked: Well, it's not terrible! Hated: Dumbass control scheme...why? **************************************************************************** Improve: Control layout, sound and music, bland graphics. RIYL: Rampage: World Tour **************************************************************************** Final Words: Is this a good game? No, not really. Not as a game. But as a stress reliever, it's great. Got someone in your life that you hate? Pretend that he's that guy on the street corner throwing crap at you. Walk your huge monster ass over there and do what you please. Just don't pay $30 for this. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: ** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 68/100 Final Score: 75% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Play as: George: SM14N1230 Lizzie: S4VRS4560 Ralph: LVPVS7890 Myukus: N0T3T3210
