Pokemon The Movie 2000 Soundtrack Atlantic Records Reviewed by Farfetch'd (joshnickerson@usa.net) Released: 2000 Use with: CD Player +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Well, another year, another Pokemon movie... and another soundtrack filled with pop music crap... but this time, there might actually be something worth listening to in this CD... do I hear Weird Al and the B-52s? And N*Sync and Britney Spears are no where in sight! I'll buy it! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: 1. The Power of One by Donna Summer A soothing song to start out with. The song says that one person can make a difference in this world, which is also the main moral of the movie. Former disco diva Donna Summer brings us a powerful song. It's a very good song, and one of the best on this album. 2. Dreams by Alysha Dreams tells everyone to follow their dreams if they believe in them. It's a catchy track. You might find yourself humming this for a few days 3. They Don't Understand by Dream Street This sounds a lot like that Spears chick's Oops I Did It Again... and the reason I usually skip over it. 4. Wonderland by Angela Via This is kind of R&B kinda music. It sounds kinda like Whitney Houston... you know, before she went insane. The song talks about the journey Ash and his friends take in the movie, into a wonderland of strange and magnificent creatures. 5. With All Your Heart by plus ONE Oh, look, another boy band... somebody shoot me. Skip over this track as well. 6. The Extra Mile by Laura Pausini This song is rather good. It continues the theme of making a difference and following your dreams. 7. Flying Without Wings by Westlife This is a good song, but because of it's rather slow pace, most will probably skip over it. 8. Pokemon World by Youngstown/Nobody's Angel I don't really like the new Pokemon theme song for the Orange League, and Youngstown just makes it worse. 9. Blah Blah Blah by Devotion 2 Music Blah blah blah would be the perfect description of this boring song. The singer complains about her parents complaining about her playing Pokemon. Warm up that fast foward finger for this track. 10. Polkamon by "Weird Al" Yankovic This track is the reason I bought this CD. Weird Al uses his famous polka melodies as he names off all the Pokemon, though I don't think many kids will know what lederhosen is. He even makes fun of the outrageous number of Pokemon out there. 11. The Chosen One by The B-52s The B-52s sing about the legend of Lugia in this groovy track. The song sounds just like their old songs from the 70s, with just the right amount of wierdness, as usual. This song is probably the best song on the album, aside from Power of One. 12. One Heart by O-Town Hey, isn't this that crappy band from that Making the Band show? Apparently, this was the only gig they could get. It's a nice song, but it's not very memorable. It kinda melds with the other billion boy band songs out there. 13. One by Denisse Lara I'm beginning to sense a "One" theme here. This song is about doing whatever you can when you believe in yourself and one person can make a difference... gee, how original! This song comes late in the album, when most people are tired of the "making a difference" theme, but this song is very good. It's a shame they had to stick such a talented singer between O-Town songs... 14. Comin To The Rescue by O-Town Hey, how come O-Town gets two songs on the CD? This song is okay... it's not great, but it's not bad either... 15. Dance of the Bellossom by John Loeffler You can tell this one was geared towards kids. The sickenly sweet sounding Bellossom sing in this short track, and you can hear other Pokemon sing as well. And... for some reason... I'm obessed with Bellossom now... Bell Bell Bell Bell Lossooooommmmm! 16. The Legend Comes To Life by John Loeffler John Loeffler seems to have done a better job with the movie score this time around. The haunting sounds of this track reflect the legend that Lugia represents. Liked: Wierd Al and the B-52s.... together at last! And I'd like to hear more from D. Lara. Hated: No promo card came with it this time! The bonus footage on the CD can only be viewed through the internet. And currently... the page that is supposed to have the footage doesn't exist... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: More of the musical score would've been nice... but perhaps they will release that on a separate CD like they did with Mewtwo Strikes Back. And... enough with the pop bands! It would have been funny to have a serious singer sing the theme song, like Celine Dion. Heh heh heh. And next time, put the bonus footage on the actual CD. None of this internet link crap. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: Pokemon fans will buy this no matter what I say, but unlike the first movie soundtrack, this CD isn't filled with boy bands or girls with boob jobs. There are some excellent songs to be found on this CD, if you are willing to wade through the pop junk. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 95% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: This is the first review to contain the word "boob"... that is, unless someone has reviewed Tomb Raider. (Editor's note: You fool! I have already reviewed Tomb Raider! And.. I didn't say boob. Bwa ha ha! -Philip-)
