Limited Edition Pokemon Gameboy Color System by nintendo Reviewed by pikamom pikamom@supernet.com pikamom1@gamesharker.com Use with: any gameboy game, gameboy printer, gameboy camera, boom box boy, shark mx, worm light... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: At first nintendo gave us the original "fat" gray gameboy that played games on a greenish screen. Then came the gameboy pocket, a newer, sleeker model with a silver screen. And finally we are given the gameboy color. As small as the gameboy pocket, it plays all the gameboy game library, plus new games in living color! It comes in a variety of casing colors, including the limited edition pokemon. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: First of all, I want to tell you about this special gameboy color. It's pikachu yellow on top, and royal blue on bottom, with a red A button, green B button, and blue plus pad. The pokemon logo is printed just above the select and start buttons. Surrounding the screen is a pikachu, togepi, and jigglypuff, with a pokeball around the red "on" light! But that's just cosmetics. The gameboy color itself is more powerful than any of the older versions. If you play an old B&W game, you can change the color scheme by inputting certain codes with the plus pad before the nintendo logo fades away. By the way, original games come in a gray pak, except for Donkey Kong Land (yellow) and Pokemon (red, blue, yellow), and color games that are backwards compatible come in a black pak, and finally games that only work with gameboy color are in a clear gray pack. Pokemon Gold and Silver are backward compatible and come in silver and gold paks. Wait, there's one more kind of game pak, and that is the rumble pack. These special games have a bulge that sticks up above your gameboy and make it really hard to store with the rest of your games. A battery goes in the bulge so that the game can shake. Some games use this feature well, like Pokemon Pinball, where the "buzzing" actually gives the ball a feeling of weight. Other games don't quite get it right and just "buzz". (Editor's Note: There is two more types of Game Boy Color pack! The GB Kiss Pack; which is longer than a normal cartridge and has a built-in infrared data port. Only Robopon has that cartridge. And the Kirby Motion sensing pak!) Liked: Some of the color games look as good as Super Nintendo games! Gameboy color games can be as big as Super Nintendo games as well, or even bigger! Like Donkey Kong Country. It's the entire SNES game with extras like mini-games and sticker paks. Also, the Donkey Kong Land games blurred terribly on the older gameboys, but not on gameboy color! Hated: A lot of people wish nintendo would give us backlit gameboys. The reason they don't is because it sucks up your batteries like crazy. But I wouldn't care because I always play with a recharger and AC cord. I would like to have a back light, but the next best thing is the worm light. I just got an import pikachu worm light and it looks GOOD with my pokemon gameboy, pikachu link cables and pikachu yellow printer! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Give it a backlight. And as we all know, in 2001 we will have the Gamboy Advance in our hands. This newest incarnation will play games of quality between SNES and N64! Gameboy has been around for more than a decade and is still going strong! No other handheld system has been able to compete! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: You need a gameboy color. If you love pokemon, then the limited edition pokemon gameboy color is for you! You'll have to find it on e-bay or something, because this particular one is no longer on the shelf. BTW, it came bundled with Pokemon Yellow. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 99 % minus a point for no backlight. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: There are something like 12 different color schemes you can use for your old B&W games, but I often use the gray pallet. I just think B&W games look best played in B&W! Plus I ALWAYS use the gray pallet on my gameboy camera. There are other limited edition gameboy colors as well. I know of a pink Hello Kitty, a yellow Tommy Hilfiger, and the Japanese Pokemon with special gold/silver paint.
