Pokemon The First Movie: Original Score by Koch Records Reviewed by Farfetch'd (joshnickerson@usa.net) Released: 2000 Use with: CD Player +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Hmmm, after the much despised "original" soundtrack of Pokemon: The First Movie, the studio heads finally smartened up and released the score to the movie, which they should have done in the first place. Sadly, you won't get a Pokemon Card for purchasing the CD. But on the bright side, you won't have to listen to the Backstreet Boys! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: Like I did for the other Pokemon CDs I reviewed, I will list each of the tracks and tell you about them. There are 13 tracks in this CD, and it's about 40 minutes long. (Mewtwo Strikes Back) 1. The Birth Of Mewtwo - Mewtwo awakens from a dream into a strange world. The scientists who created him care nothing for Mewtwo, so he destroys the lab. He then becomes partners with Giovanni, who betrays him. Angered, Mewtwo destroys Team Rocket headquarters, and returns to the island he was created to plot his revenge. 2. Dragonite Takes Flight - Mewtwo sends out a Dragonite to invite the greatest trainers to his castle. As Dragonite makes its rounds, Mewtwo conjures up a storm to weed out the weak trainers. 3. Invitation To Danger - The storm is raging, but several trainers refuse to be scared off. They fly and surf their way to new island. Meanwhile, Ash and the others board a boat manned by Team Rocket, which is soon capsized by giant waves. 4. Surviving the Storm - With the boat capsized and Team Rocket washed away, Ash, Misty, Pikachu and Brock hold onto their water Pokemon and try to survive the savage sea. They finally make their way to the island and inside the castle, where they meet Nurse Joy. 5. Mewtwo's Island - As the trainers inside await the arrival of their host, Team Rocket stumbles onto Mewtwo's cloning lab. Mewtwo reveals himself to the trainers, and announces his plans for the world. 6. Pokemon Vs. Clone - Mewtwo summons his clones to face the Pokemon Trainers, while Team Rocket discovers a hidden file, in which a desparate scientist makes his last recording of Mewtwo's rage. Little do they know Mew has been following them the whole time. 7. Tears of Life - Mew and Mewtwo keep fighting even after the Pokemon and clones have collapsed from exhaustion. Ash rushes out to stop them, but gets caught in their psychic blasts. Turned to stone, Ash lays motionless on the ground. The Pokemon cry, and as the legend foretold, their tears revive Ash. 8. This Is My World Now - Mewtwo defeats Ash's Charizard, then sets out to capture all of the Pokemon. Ash chases the Pokeball holding Pikachu down into Mewtwo's lab. 9. Pokemon Vs. Clone - As the trainers argue that Mewtwo can't be a Pokemon Trainer, he challenges them to a Pokemon match; their Pokemon Vs. his clones. 10. Mew's Theme - Mew arrives at New Island and has some fun with the windmills. (Pikachu's Vacation) 11. Freeing Charizard - Charizard is taking a snooze when Pikachu and Raichu run over his tail. He chases after them, roaring and knocking them off a ledge. He flies around the area, but gets his head stuck in a play area. The Pokemon join together and free a grateful Charizard. 12. Adventure in Paradise - Togepi wanders of and teeters on a log. Pikachu tries to save Togepi, but ends up falling into the river. Later on, Squirtle and Marril have a race. 13. All Good Things Must End - The Pokemon pitch in to rebuild the play area, then have a good time playing with each other. Soon the day ends and they must all part ways and head back to their trainers. Liked: The great score from the movie! Hated: Some parts of the tracks are a little dull (kinda like the movie) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: The CD itself feels kind of short. It would have been nice to include some original music that wasn't from the movie, but otherwise, it's a solid buy. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: This is a good CD, especially if you like instrumental music. It's like the CD they released for Titanic ('cept no Celine Dion, which can be a good thing or a bad thing). However, if you're really not into musical scores, then you better save your money for the Pokemon Movie 2000 soundtrack. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 88% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: You can jump back to any song on the CD, by pressing the Back button.
