Pokemon: 2.B.A. Master by Koch Records Reviewed by Farfetch'd (joshnickerson@usa.net) Released: 1999 Use with: a CD Player +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: (nil) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: Can't get the Pokerap out of your head. Then you need this CD, as it comes with the complete Pokerap and a dozen other songs. I will go through them one by one and give my thoughts on each. #1 Pokemon Theme The song that's hummed by every schoolchild in every school yard in America. The extended version of the TV show theme song during the Indigo League episodes. Kind of reminds me of the Eye of The Tiger from the Rocky movie. Awesome guitar sequence near the end of this track. #2 2BA Master Reminds me of music from the late 80s. Basic message: you must crush the opposition! Not exactly the best message to send, but with the possibility of a Republican white house next year, perhaps the most appropriate. #3 Viridian City We're on the road to Viridian City! A song telling the tale of a young Pokemon Trainer heading from Pallet Town to the big city on his first adventure. Just keep trying, until you can find something worth fighting for. Nice techno music gives it a good beat. #4 What Kind of Pokemon Are You? Goes through the 15 different types of Pokemon, giving the best and worst traits of them all. Almost like a rap song, especially the 'Kick your grass" lyric. #5 My Best Friends Another inspirational song for lasting friendships. No matter what happens, you will always be best friends. That's the message the song sends out, and a pretty good one too. #6 Everything Changes This one is about evolution. A good song, but kinda sleepy for the first minute, then it gets into a nice beat. You have to deal with the fact that no matter what you do, everything will change. #7 The Time Has Come A sad song introduced in the Pikachu's Goodbye episodes of the anime. This is the extended version with a female vocal. A very good song, I think it would be a hit on the radio if, as Phil said in his review "wasn't dedicated to a yellow electic rat". #8 Pokemon Dance Mix Say the word Pokemon about a thousand times with a generic dance mix in the background, and you have this track. It will get your toes tapping too. I noticed they used this in one of the trailers for Mewtwo Strikes Back... if only the music in the English version of the movie was this good... #9 Double Trouble Let's face it... you LOVE Team Rocket and their nasty plans. Jessie and James don't really sing, they just speak their parts with background vocals. Team Rocket's Rockin' with an awesome beat and excellent vocals. And Meowth is so delightfully out of tune. #10 Together Forever This is kinda scary... it sounds just like a Backstreet Boys or 98 Degrees song, but... I actually like it! It's about the classic relationship between boy and Pikachu. The beat and vocals are very good, and it even has some voices from the show in it as well. #11 Misty's Song Groan.... I hate it when they try to play up the romance between Ash and Misty... We know there's an attraction between the two... but don't you think they're a bit young for that kinda stuff? Anyway, it sounds like a Britney Spears song, so that's why I usually skip over this song when I spin the CD. #12 PokeRAP Venomoth Poliwag Nidorino Golduck... Still got that song in your head? Well, now you can listen to it as much as you want. You can watch it as much as you want too, because the CD comes with a Quicktime File that contains the entire PokeRAP for you to watch on your computer. #13 You Can Do It You can do it! Cut his ****ing head off!... oops, sorry. Actually, this song is about following your dreams and accomplishing your goals. It's a nice message, but I usually skip over this song too. Liked: Most of the songs had a very catchy beat. Hated: Did we really need a romance Spears wannabe track on here? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Hmmm.... I would love to have a soundtrack that consisted of all the instrumental tunes from the show, like the battle themes. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: If you are a true Pokemaniac, you already have this CD. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 97% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: Nothing
