Pikachu Yellow Printer System/accessory by nintendo Reviewed by pikamom pikamom@supernet.com pikamom1@gamesharker.com Use with: any gameboy +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: This is just like the original gray gameboy printer, only it's a special pokemon edition! It's called pikachu yellow, and it matches my limited editon pokemon gameboycolor perfectly! They don't make it for the USA, so if you want one you'll have to import it from Japan or someplace like Toy's-N-Joys (that's where I got mine). +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: This thing is a nice little printer for your gameboy camera or some games like Harvest Moon 2 and Pokemon Gold/Silver. It's a nice little compact size, and feels quite sturdy. It's pretty thick, though, and won't fit in most gameboy cases. When I ordered my printer at the afore mentioned web-store, I also ordered an import deluxe pokemon gameboy case just to keep it in, along with my gameboy color, pikachu link cables, some games, books, yellow gameboy camera, printer paper, and now my pikachu worm light. Anyway, to get back to the subject, it's a little printer that prints out stickers on rolls of yellow, white and blue thermal paper. You have to be careful not to handle your stickers or leave them in the heat as they will fade. I had printed out all the cards from my Pokemon Trading Card game and put them in a book, and then left it in the car, and all the stickers were ruined! Liked: My printer is pikachu yellow, with a little pikachu on the top, and a pokeball for the feed button! It's simple to change the paper rolls, just snap off the bubble top, cut the existing roll and pull the paper out the front, not back. Then cut a point on the new roll, feed it from the back through to the front, put the top back on, and voila! you're ready to print. The 6 batteries last a good long time, unless you accidentally leave the printer on for a couple of days without realizing it. (I've done that twice, I think in the carry case I keep it in, something might accidently bump up against it and switch it on). Hated: I love this little addition to my pikachu gameboy family, and the only thing I can think of to hate about it is when I hook up my pikachu link cables, pikachu must be upside down on the printer. On the gameboy end, pikachu looks over the edge of the game screen! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: It would be nice if it wasn't so thick, and I think I'd rather have ink than thermal paper. Sure, you'd have to buy ink for it in addition to paper and batteries, but the stickers would then be permanent. But I guess it's nice to NOT have to buy ink for all those parents out there who only buy gameboy stuff for their kids. I happen to BE a parent who buys gameboy stuff for...ME! I get games for my kids too, and they each have their own camera, and when I got my pikachu yellow printer I gave the gray one to my daughter, but they just don't use their gameboy stuff. I don't know why, it's such a great hobby! I do something gameboy every day, whether playing games, or working on my page, or posting at gameboy sites like this one, or writing reviews...I seem to be doing something gameboy most of my spare time! I think nintendo might be working on a color gameboy camera and printer, but I don't know for sure. I saw a couple of things about it when we started hearing about the new gameboy advance, but not lately. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: For those of you who have a gameboy camera, this is a must-have. You wouldn't necessarily have to have a pikachu yellow one, though, but it is a lot cuter than the gray one. It prints just the same. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 98 % minus a point for fading stickers, and minus a point for being too thick to fit in regular gameboy cases. Other than that, I think this is pretty much perfect! Who would have thought we could do things like take pictures and then print them out with our gameboys! It's amazing. To me anyway. Not to my kids though. They've had stuff like this all their lives so they just take it for granted. Not me. When I was a kid I didn't have video games, vcr's, remote controls, microwaves, computers, cordless phones, car phones...and the like. We had a black and white tv with 3 stations, a rotary phone, and a calculator. That's it. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: Hold the feed button and then turn your printer on for a secret message from Mario!
