Light Shield Advance System/accessory by: Pelican Reviewed by: Beefy_B Released: 2001 Height: 4 inches Width: 3 inches Depth: 1/4 inch Battery Life: It feeds of the link port. Use with: GameBoy Advance +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Its a light to go on your GameBoy Advance. When I went to Wal-Mart to get i light i was actually looking for the worm light plus, but the only ones they had there were the white ones and a fushia one. This didn't go well with my Glacier gameboy so i decided to check this light periferal out. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: Alright, this thing plugs into the back of your GBA via the little holes that were put there by nintendo for this sort of thing. There is an extension of the link cable port so it is still perfectly usable. Also the unit does not in any way cover the gameslot so you are free to use old GB games as well as the new GBA without trouble. The light Shield Advance has a few cool features, one is the link cable port extension, as seen in the worm light plus. However Pelican goes above and beyond this by adding two things that the worm light doesn't have. It comes with an on off switch, so if you don't want to use it you won't be wastig power. Also there is a dimmer switch. I guess this would conserve batteries too, but I always keep it on the highest setting (Castlevania is too scary w/o it). I dont really see why anyone would have it lowered but I guess its nice to know it is there. The light shield advance has a "shield" that flips up and down over the screen on the GBA. This would protect it from scratches when its in your pocket, or your little brothers hands. My only gripe about this is that the shield seem unusually thick. It adds 1/4 of an inch thickness to your system when it doesn't seem neccessary. However the system is still very portable when the screen is in the down position. Its still gonna fit in your pocket unless you are wearing the skin tight wranglers that seem so popular here in Florida. Finally, the light quality is very good. The light doesn't seem as blinding as the worm light, but it does use an LED, and is very bright. It does its job well with comparable glare to Nykos periferal. To reduce said glare all that is really needed is an adjustment to the shield. Liked: Nice, seems quality. The link cable extension is definatley a plus. Most importantly is does everything as well or better than Nyko's Worm Light, plus it adds some feature (it was a buck cheaper too). Hated: When the shield was closed it added too much thickness to my GBA. While some guys like the thicky thick girls, I just don't like my GBA to have too much junk in the trunk. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Just narrow the shield a bit. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: All in all this is an excellent light. It does just about everything well, gives plenty of light and allows your GBA to remain portable. Its like 8 bucks so go out and get one if you can. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 90% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: none
