Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Greyleaf drewk_braves@yahoo.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: 1-slot battery save Released: 1999 Works with: Gameboy Color Only! **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I really like baseball. It is my favorite sport. Incidentally, my game got a bit of heat damage. When I'm on the road at away games, it's just fine, but at home, the walls are grey. I may have the only copy with a home and away stadium. (Don't leave games in cars at 100 degrees. I got lucky that it didn't mess anything important up.) **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: This is a fun baseball game. It is like other SNES and NES baseball games. It has the MLB and MLBPA licenses, so all of the teams and players are in there, relative to the beginning of the season. So, for instance, Roger Clemens is on the Yankees. The trades that took place in July are not in this game though. (Because it was made before then.) There are also All-Star teams. Liked: The licenses, it's a fun baseball game. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The game has pretty awesome graphics. It breaks the 56 color barrier in the title screen and with the "subtle shading of the grass." The players look cool and so do the cutscenes. Liked: Title screen, players, cut scenes. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is pretty good. The sound effects are also good. Liked: The music and sounds are ok. Hated: The music is just the slightest bit annoying to me. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The play control is just fine. However, fielding is a bit difficult. It takes some time to get used to. Also, some players can't hit the ball out of the infield. Pitchers, maybe but hitters? I think hitters should at least hit it to the outfield. This is not many players, but a few. There are 4 modes of play. These are exhibition, season, World Series, and Home Run Derby. There is 1 save slot for season and one save slot for World Series. Home Run Derby is multi player one one gameboy! Liked: Good play control and design, different modes. Hated: Learning curve of fielding, some players flat out can't hit! **************************************************************************** Improve: Fielding and some players' hitting abilities. Also, include the player profiles with ratings mentioned in the instructions. RIYL: Baseball, Ken Griffey Jr. games on other platforms. **************************************************************************** Final Words: This is a great baseball game with a few minor problems. It is still a very worthy purchase, IMO. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 23 stars Final Score: 92% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
