Gremlins 2: the new batch Game by Sunsoft Reviewed by Groucho kirby@exploremaine.com Size: 512 kilobytes Save: none Released: 1990 Works with: all versions of gameboy ***************************************************************************** Opening snide remarks: well, well, well, they finally made gremlin's game for Game Boy. Let's see if it is as good as the nintendo version. ***************************************************************************** Gameplay description: You play as gizmo the mawgi (or something) you have to find your wepon in every level (a pencil) and use it to beat up enemies in a pint size world. NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH Despite popular belief pikachu was not the original "cutie" game character! It was gizmo!! Gizmo was just as cute as pikachu and invented years before him!! NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH It is very fun because to play because there are machines and tricks gizmo can do to help defeat the gremlins. For example Gizmo can use a punching block to kill any moster near it. He can also get a tune stuck in his head to use as a weapon! cool! Liked: Being gizmo!! (who doesn't?) Hated: Like a trillion other gameboy games ***************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Well considering how old it, is the graphics were surprisingly bad. NOT. Just kidding the graphics are very good for it's age and the characters are nice and big. The bosses are nice and detailed. (although not too smart.) To sum it all up the gremlins look like gremlins and gizmo looks like Gizmo. Liked: How Gizmo looks so cute still on the small screen Hated: Not very many different types of bad guys ***************************************************************************** Sound/Music description: The sound effects are not too fantastic but come to think of it, I've never really heard fantastic sound effects on a gameboy. The music is another story. It's good but bad. The tunes are nice and bouncy and keep the mood light. If you listen really carefully you can hear what sounds like police whistles in the background. Nice job sunsoft!! The bad thing is that the game is about gremlins, evil killing monsters, and the music sounds like it came right out of kirby's dreamland. Ouch. Liked: Music kept the mood light Hated: The music doesn't exactly fit the game ***************************************************************************** Play control/game design: Well as you may know there are two ways of looking at everything. The positive side and the negative side. I'm going to be different for once and do the positive side of game control. The control is near perfect. When gizmo jumps he jumps the second you press it. The more you press the higher he goes. Duh. The hit detection is off a little. But since I'm looking at the positive side of this I'll say the game has a learning curve. Yeah, the game has a learning curve, you have to learn how close or far away you have to be to hit something, like a boss. Liked: control near perfect!! Hated: Hit dectection ***************************************************************************** Improve: more levels, moves or weapons, actually just make it like the Nintendo version. That would rock! RYIL: Castlevania, Poke'mon ***************************************************************************** Final words : Get this game. It is fun to play in a shruken down world. It's a nice change from most games. Plus You can find it at funcoland for 9.99. At that price you should definatly pick up this neglected classic. Besides, If you get the game and hate it you can always watch the movie. ***************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/music: *** Play control/Game design: **** Personal opinion: *****!!
