Godzilla: The Series Game by Crave Entertainment Reviewed by The Franchise rmturner@infinity.net Size: 8 megabits Save: 10-character password Released: 1999 Works with: any version of Gameboy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Only seven levels, I thought size was supposed to matter. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: You are Godzilla, hence the clever name of this game. You walk along and destroy things that come at you: helicopters, planes, tanks, people, etc. You don't control Godzilla's forward motion, he goes along and you can't stop him, slow him down or speed him up. Basically all you do is aim his head so he can launch a fireball. You can also swing your tail at enemies. As you progress in the game you acquire a couple more moves and the speed and power of the moves change as you earn more points. Liked: Godzilla is huge and destructive. Hated: You can't move him! **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The game looks great. Lots of color Godzilla is large and his movements look good. The enemies also look good and the backgrounds are decent. The cut scenes and opening are all animated well. Liked: Godzilla looks like Godzilla, nice animation. Hated: Nothing here to hate. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music and sounds effects aren't bad. The music isn't repetitive and doesn't become annoying. The sound effects are okay. Godzilla's stomping and swiping come across well in the sound effects but his growls sound wimpy. Liked: Stomping sound effects. Hated: Wimpy growl. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Godzilla is slow and the controls seemed sluggish at first, but you get used to it. The one move that I found particularly difficult was the tail whip. It was hit or miss. There are only seven simple levels and the are all basically the same. Godzilla walks along and kills small enemies until he meets a boss. The boss and Godzilla stand toe to toe and shoot at each other in a slow motion battle which becomes frustrating and repetitive. This sluggish clash of titans is virtually identical in each level with the exception being the final boss who launches smaller enemies at you. Liked: Consistent play control. Hated: Hit or miss tail whip, repetitive levels that are too easy. **************************************************************************** Improve: Add three times as many levels and make them more diverse. Give the player control of Godzilla. RIYL: Any Godzilla movie, it will last longer. **************************************************************************** Final Words: The game is okay, but way too small. I beat it in a couple of hours. If you can rent it and wanna take a look go ahead, but with the cost of a game being what it is, I can't recommend buying it. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: ** Personal Opinion: ** Total: 15 Final Score: 60% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Level Password 2 NCFRGJJBBK 3 DMTFLSBFQM 4 PKDJMPLNPS 5 KDQLHRNDCN 6 DQSPCFPFJR
