Great Greed Game by Namco Reviewed by Robin Whyonly1@hotmail.com Save: battery, 3 slots and one auto save Works with: All **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Everyone knows about this game by now, right? Well, I finally got around to buying it, and am well pleased. Anyway, read on... **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Battle system is excellent. Everyone all knows about this. It's active and in real time like Namco's other excellent rpg "Tales of Phantasia". I found this out when I left to go to the bathroom, and returned to find my player dead (or "out of energy" as the game says). The story is "green". Not green in a sophisticated "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" way, but in a simple "pollution is bad" manner. On the surface, the story seems basically stupid, but you have to look deeper. Inside it is a curious little tale filled with some humor, action, and, of course, food. Liked: Battle system is cool, and actually makes level raising lots of fun! Story is pleasantly weird. Hated:------------- **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: There is no way around this. The graphics are not very good. Tilesets are constantly reused, your character animation is less than that of even FFl3. In battle, the spells are simply pathetic, but the enemy portraits are nice. Ever play rogue-like games (ADOM, Nethack, and, or course, Rougue)? Graphics don't make a difference right? Same thing in Great Greed. GRAPHICS IN THIS GAME DON'T MATTER!!!!! IT'S THE FREAKIN GAME SYSTEM AND STORY THAT COUNT!!!! Liked: Graphics are mediocre, BUT I DON'T CARE!!!!! Hated: That people who play Final Fantasy, Crono Cross, and the like ONLY FOR THE VISUALS will say this game "sucks". **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music in this game was composed by a genius. Chopin that is. Look at the credits, his name is there, and my sister confirmed to me that this games music is in fact composed by Chopin. VERY nice choice. Kind of reminds me of Final Fantasy 7 taking parts from Jospeh Haydn's "Creation" and Orff's "O Fotuna" for the scenes of Rufus dying and "One Winged Angel". Sound effects are typical "slash", "bang", "ouch". Adequate. Liked: Chopin, very cool Hated: I wouldn't dare to dis Chopin. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Press "A" to attack, "B" to defend, "direction" to cast magic, "start" to run away. Menu could be designed better, but you don't have to use them much. Everything works. Dungeon design is excellent. Although they look nearly identical, each has some sort of twist to it like moving platforms, or path-blocking trees. Quests are humorous, and also unique. Liked: Yawn, its good again Hated: Yawn, nothing here. **************************************************************************** Improve: RIYL: Pokemon, FFL series, game boy RPGs, and other RPGs with bad graphics. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Say this game is "gay", "sucky", or any other clique insult, and I will kill you. **************************************************************************** Gameplay:***** Graphics:***** Sound/Music:***** Play Control/Game Design:***** Personal Opinion:***** Total:***** Final Score: 100 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: To keep up with enemy stregth, always be sure to have the most advanced armor.
