Cobra Light System/accessory by Nuby Reviewed by Philip Wesley Released: 2000 Use with: Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Not often that you see a competitor in the light business that DOESN'T blatantly rip off the Worm Light. This is a Cobra Light from Nuby. It's part of their "Cobra" line of products. Destro makes them. *snickers* I bought the creature at Best Buy. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: Serpentor lives! Oh, no! Watch out Sgt. Slaughter! The latest evil from Cobra Command latches to your Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color and stares at you wickedly with glowing eyes! I got a green one to match my Kiwi GBC. The device latches on to the side and top of your Game Boy. Because of the way it is built, I know it will not work with the Game Boy Advanced. It has an on/off switch for the light, and it has a link cable port on it as well. The light part looks like a Cobra Hood with a cute looking head. The head has two little red eyes and stubby red fangs and those "glow" when the light is on and positioned correctly. Once you position it once, it won't move for the remainder of the time you put it in that position; until you move it. When you're done playing, the snake on top folds done on to the Game Boy to lie in wait for the next time you play. Oh, the device has no glare. It says it will make your screen look backlit. That is "partially" true. It depends on the strength of your batteries. It won't look as bright as a backlit TFT screen should. I have a backlit TFT screen on my Laptop. This device makes you screen look like it has a subtle backlight. Nothing awe-inspiring bright. But nothing too dull or boring. In other words, it lights up the screen quite nicely. It lights up your screen and does a better job at it than the reflection heavy Worm Light. In other words, you won't see glare, or be blinded by it's reflection. How is this done? I'll explain. The light for the device is in the Cobra's hood. It shines up at the head where a small mirror is located. When you move the top of the head, you position the mirror to reflect the light at your Game Boy's screen. It makes for a nice, glare-free screen that is very visible at night. Liked: No glare, seems sturdier than the Worm Light. The snake has "NUBY" written on it's forehead like an insane cultist. Snaps on, stays on. Until you take it off. Works well, you can turn it off, and it folds over like a "brace" to protect the screen. (Sort of) It has red eyes that glow. Lights up the Game Boy Pocket better than the actual back-lit Game Boy Pocket does. (Game Boy Lite -in Japan- is a backlit Game Boy Pocket with a yellow back light. This device is a white light.) Not expensive. Costs the same as it's competitors and works better. Hated: Could be a bit brighter.. if that mirror breaks, you're in for SEVEN years of Bad Luck. Some kids may not like a snake. :( Not as articulate as I would like, looks cheap.. although it isn't. If you position the light wrong, you can actually get some glare; but why would you want to do that? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Make other animals, make an articulated version. I think the new way to display light on the Game Boy is great; but could use a little refinement. It could be made even more compact. With the Game Boy Advanced version. Which there most definately SHOULD be. They should make it more streamlined. Ooo! Make a Dolphin one! Or better yet, make a Dragon for all of us who love RPG dragons! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: Right now, this is the best light you can get for your money. It has no glare -if positioned properly-; and that's good. It also looks "cool". +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 92% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: The Cobra brings good luck to those who are undead. A great reminder, if you ask me. Looks great up there when I'm playing Tomb Raider. Considering the last boss in that gamne *is* a giant Cobra god. If you pet it, polish it's teeth, and be nice to it; it will sit there and listen to all your petty problems and won't complain. Not once!
