Camera Link Accessory by Mad Catz Reviewed by Superguy3000 superguy3000@juno.com OR http://members.fortunecity.com/superguy3000/ Released: 1999? Length: long enough...I couldn't find a ruler : ) Thickness: 1/8" Connects To: Parallel Port Use with: Game Boy Camera w/ Game Boy Pocket/Color. You cannot use the Camera Link to print stuff from games like Zelda DX or SMB DX, though. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Camera Link, what's that? If you don't know, you're in for a treat, my friend. The Camera Link allows one to transfer Game Boy Camera images to one's computer in *.bmp format. Pretty nifty, eh? But does it work? Read on... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: The actual cable is a very long , atomic purple thing with a parallel port connection on one end and a Game Boy Pocket/Color connection on the other. It comes with a shaddily put together CD that does its job, but barely. I've had the most trouble with this thing. But I finally got all of it figured out. Scroll to the bottom to get some help on using the cable. Now that I know how to use the cable, it's indespensable! Once, I made a five-minute-long GIF about a squad of army men trying to stop a Mr. Potato Head keychain from pumping their comrade for information. To see that and more, go to the Films section of my website at http://members.fortunecity.com/superguy3000/filmlist.htm Oh, yeah, this baby is cool! There is no end to what one can do with a tool such as this. In fact, there's even a Game Boy Camera webcam out there that probably uses a modified Game Boy Camera and this cable. Overall, this cable is probably the coolest peripheral you can buy for Game Boy. Liked: Now I can make 150-frame-long Game Boy Camera films and put them on the Net! Wahoo! Hated: The CD that comes with the cable is very badly put together, forcing one to scroll to the bottom of this review for help. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Fix the hardware driver, or at least include a help file telling users to restart the thing! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: If you have a Game Boy Camera and $15.00 to spare, can type in www.amazon.com, and want to push your camera right through the boundaries set by traditional thinking, go ahead and buy the thing. Once you get past cursing at it, you won't regret your purchase. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 94% (It would be 100%, but the software is awful to try to figure out without the help at the bottom of the screen) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: To get the thing to actually work, you have to download a file called clinkrecon.exe from the Mad Catz website at www.madcatz.com. Once you've followed all the instructions in the program, restart your computer WITH BOTH ENDS OF THE CABLE CONNECTED!!! Now just start printing pictures from within the Game Boy Camera's interface and save them. You shouldn't be bothered, save for the occasional "Could not get all data from Game Boy restarting" message. Whatever that means... Oh, and another thing: You have to restart the computer every time you want to start a new transfer session. : (
