Super Breakout/BattleZone Game by Black Pearl Reviewed by -=\^/@!+er=- rex84@epix.net Size: 4 megabits Save: None. Released: 1996 Works with: Compatible with GameBoy/GameBoy Color Opening Snide Remarks: Ahh! BattleZone! Not only have I always wanted to play BattleZone, but I've always wanted a 3D game on GameBoy! Oh yeah ... Super Breakout's there, too. Gameplay: In battlezone, you control a tank, and move around a 3D wire frame area, trying to destroy othet tanks. You move forward, left, right, and backwards with the control pad (you don't aim up or down). You fire your weapon with A or B. The tanks come one-by-one, and at first, the tanks don't attack you. But later, they get smarter and faster. There are two types of tanks; the normal tanks, and faster ones that swerve all over the screen. BattleZone is pretty fun, but it's repetitive, and loses it's appeal easily. Super Breakout is completely different. This is the imfamous "paddle game" that spawned so many clones. You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, and bounce a ball at the blocks at the top of the screen. Everytime you hit a block with the ball, the block dissappears -- you must clear all the blocks from the screen. Once you do this, the screen fills up, and you do it again. Also, there are four different modes in Breakout: Normal, Double, progressive, and cavity. Normal is the basic mode I just described. In double, you have two paddles (one on top of the other) and two balls. The blocks start a little lower, too. This is probably the best mode. It's much easier, and more fun. Progressive is like normal mode, except the blocks to slowly lower on the screen. I don't like this mode as much because it's the hardest and most tedious. And then there's cavity. Cavity plays like double, but there's two balls plugged in the blocks, that can only be used once you break the blocks around them. This mode is OK, but again, not as fun as Double. Surprisingly, Super Breakout has a higher replay value, and is more fun than BattleZone! Graphics: Since these are arcade remakes, the graphics aren't too good. They look exactly like in the arcade (Except with a lack of color). There's no GBC support. Sound: Like the graphics, since these are arcade remakes, the sounds are little more than simple beeps. Nothing special here. Music: There's no music. Not even the steady beat like in space invaders. Play Control: There's absolutley no problem with the play control. It's arcade perfect! Final Analysis: In the end, this is and good game if you like arcade games. Otherwise, you might wanna stay away.
