Brain Boy System/accessory by Pelican Reviewed by Philip Wesley Released: 2000 Use with: Game Boy Color, Game Boy Pocket only. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opening Snide Remarks: Look! Another cheat device for the people! Yeah! Oh, wait. No, it's *not* a cheat device. It's a colorizer, save game hard-drive, a Pokémon Editor, and um.. that's basically it.. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Impressions: Well, the outer caseing is ugly and bulky. It didn't bug my hands or ruin my grip; but if does that to you, go buy a Nyko "Shock N' Rock" and that will solve your problem. Anyways, from what I see here is a nifty little hard-drive and colorizer with some Pokémon junk tagged on to sell it. Liked: The Menus are great, the whole "colorizer" button is pretty decent and the colorizer itsself is pretty good. The main focus is really the Pokémon Editor which allows you to rename Pokémon, and the main characters like your player and your rival. you can change ID numbers as well. Not bad at all, to be honest the only real reson it's there is for cheating BUT Put an altered Pokémon inside The PC Box and the game automatically makes you honest again. HA HA HA. Anyways, the real good part about the editor is the card editor. For Pokémon Card. I discovered that it won't alter your total card count. So, if you want those two randomly generated Card Pop! Mew and Venusaur, lower the card count on something like an Energy Card, or the device will take away a card or two from the cards not in your deck. With Pokémon Card, it's more of a.. well.. it isn't a cheat because the game relies on strategy and luck; not power. It's more of a creative tool. Want to try a new deck idea out; but your missing a card? Lower the total count on some other card and then raise the count on the card you need. See! Useful. The menus are a joy to navigate, easy and simple. The colorizer is cool. I find it to be useful on some games; but overall, it's a silly gimmick. The Double Speed option is great; but not noticeable on a LOT of games. It does however make Face Ball 2000 run as fast as Perfect Dark in Arena. No kidding. SERIOUSLY. That's fun. The colorizer can be made to make some games look pretty cool. Like with a Black and White background and color sprites, or vice versa. Very nifty. The Save back-up works well too. And that's all I can really say about that; it does it's job. Hated: The MUSIC during the menu is horrible and annoying. The Double Speed thing doesn't work on Game Boy Color games, and the device makes some sprite effects dissappear. Games like Link's Awakening, Samurai Showdown, and Mole Mania have objects that don't show up. It might be the fault of the games Pokémon Editor -which is apparently continually on- or it might be because The Game Boy has FOUR colors for the sprites and the editor only lets you edit three colors per sprite. In Samurai Showdown your opponent become invisible. In Link's Awakening and Mole Mania, parts of text and menus are not visible. The device is semi-useful for Pokémon, red, yellow, and blue. But I wouldn't reccommend it for those games. It's most useful on Pokémon Card though. It really doesn't have a TRUE double speed option. And for the price it is, it seems kind of useless. No, really. It's also ugly to look at. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Improve: Screw the Pokémon thing. Just bundle together a smaller, better looking unit that allows me to over-clock old Game Boy games, remove flicker like the Code Breaker, and fix that colorizer so it can actually work on all the old games. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Final Words: If you have Pokémon Card, Face Ball 2000, and you need a Save Data Hard Drive.. this is almost worth the price; but I wouldn't suggest it at full price. No.. get it from the bargin bin. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Score: 58% +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Secrets: Useing the Colorizer button, you can make the Game Boy Color think that it's a black and white system. Therefore making it not detect GBC Only games. But why you would want to do that.. is.. well.. beyond me...
