Blaster Master "Enemy Below" Game by Sunsoft Reviewed by Gamefan Size: Save: password save Released: 2000 Works with: All gameboys **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Some of you may have seen my first Blaster master review, well I am farther in the game now and I'll tell you that this game is better then I once thought. Here I go again. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Blaster Master is all about exploration and BMEB has plenty of that. I have been hopelessly lost many times. In my first review I forgot to mention that BMEB has a lot more of offer then the original BM for the NES. In this version of BM Sophia (the tank/truck) is not fully powered up at the start of the game, and this is why many of you (including myself) felt that the jumping was slugish and unresponsive. That changes after you beat the first level and you receive the Jump Module. BMEB has many modules including ones that allow Sophia to drive up walls and on ceiling and a water module that allow Sophia to move freely in the water! This are just a few of the many modules in the game. (8 total) The game is fully open to exploration you can go anywhere on map at anytime, (a lot like Super Metroid for the SNES (you can return to earlier boards) This is not just an option, but a neccesity to travel to the earlier boards to get to the later maps. Jason can also exit Sophia at anytime and explore on foot or enter Catacombs to fight leaders and find items of Sophia. This part of the game looks similar to Crystalis. Liked: Sophia modules and open exploration. Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics in BMEB are indentical to the NES BM, which in my opinion are perfect for a BM game. Some levels bright and colorful while others have a darker organic feel to them. The guns for Jason are pretty bland (machine gun and grenade lanunchers) but Sophia makes up for that with the lightning bolts, hunter missiles and 3 way missile shot. Not to mention an upgradable turret gun. Jason is drawn a lot better in BMEB then he was in BM (he's lost weight) Liked: Sophia is awesome looking. Lightning bolts! Leaders are huge!! Hated: Opening intro (use more colors) needs words!!! **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The sound and music is the same as the NES and that's perfect I think. Liked: Nothing changed from the NES version Hated: Could have had a little better sound affect for Jasons Grenades. **************************************************************************** Play Control: At first I thought that BMEB had problems in the jumping department, but after finding the Jump Module it has transformed itself to its past glory. Game Design: The game design is flawless, I love the ability to return to the first level if I want. If you missed an item or two you can search the whole planet for it! They kept the look and feel of the original (which is good) and if you liked the original you will certainly like BMEB. Liked: Same great game design, Same great control. Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Improve: Battery Backup, More weapons longer game. More water levels. More in building exploration. Bring Blaster Master "Blasting again" to the GBA!! RIYL: Nothing really compares to Blaster Master game play except other BM games. Metroid 2 and Metroid 3 would be the closest. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Blaster Master on the NES is a timeless classic and BMEB continues the tradition with a bang! BM fans rejoice! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 23 Final Score: 92% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Just use hunter missiles to destroy mines. (But remember to jump or Sophia can't lock on.) There are many secrets in BMEB, but you like I will have to find them on your own.
