Bionic Commando (not Elite Forces) Game by Capcom (oh yeah!) Reviewed by Brak (PLOK253@aol.com) Size: n2 megabits Save: Password feature Released: 1992 Works with: Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Pocket, Super Gameboy, and should work with the GBA when it comes out. **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: While looking through the Gameboy games at Funcoland today, I was looking for some old monochrome ones that I didn't have, yet I've heard good things about. Great Greed? Nah, got that already. Nemesis? Nah, I have R-Type DX. Bionic Commando? Gasp! The original GB game to the hit NES game! I had to get it (as well as getting Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge, which I would have to say is great as well.) **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Played Bionic Commando for NES or Gameboy Color? The great platforming formula is all here! You collect pellet things (don't have the manual) from the enemies to recieve more hit points, you collect weapons and items after beating levels (or for most of them at least,) and you've got enemy copters on the map screen (although when you attack them, it's a normal side-scrolling view rather than the overhead view.) Also, this game has the neutral areas just like the NES game does, where you can talk to people and gather information, as well as items. Liked: Original gameplay that's a little similar to Mega Man, password feature has been added, and it doesn't lack any fun like some early Gameboy platformers did. Hated: Too short, which is a bummer, since the game is great fun. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics are great for the early Gameboy! The enemies are well created, and much more detailed than in other Gameboy games released around the same time! There are also sweet anime-like pictures of the hero after a level has been beaten! Liked: Good, clean graphics, anime-like pictures Hated: A little dated, but whad'ya expect? **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Man, Capcom has got even more going for them! The music is this game is great! The music for level 0 was also used in Elite Forces, but I think it sounds better in this game! The sound effects are all cool, and about as good as they get for Gameboy. Liked: Cool music and sound effects. Hated: ...................... **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The play control for the NES Bionic Commando was a little tricky, and this game improves it! Remember how it was difficult to use the Bionic Arm in the air after swinging, because the jerk would wait a few seconds before using it again? You needn't worry about that in this game! Also, firing the gun quickly is easier than before. Liked: Play control is as good as in Elite Forces! Hated: Nothing I can complain about! **************************************************************************** Improve: I would make the game longer in a sequel. Oh wait, there is a sequel already, and they did make it longer! RIYL: Elite Forces, NES Bionic Commando, Mega Man, Castlevania, the side-scrolling action from ActRaiser (I love that game!) **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you can find it and already whipped Bionic Commando and Elite Forces, get this game! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: ***** Final Score: 100% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: There probably is a cheat code or two. Check some early Nintendo Power issues. They might have some.
