Bionic Commando: Elite Forces Game by Nintendo Software Technology, Nintendo, Capcom Reviewed by John E. (N200X) PokeG3@aol.com Size: 8 megabits Save: Three save slots Released: 2000 Works with: GBC Only **************************************************************************** Opening Statements: When pondering on what new GBC game I should buy, Bionic Commando seemed the right choice at the time. The first thing I noticed was the wonderful graphics, which you can read about later in review. But, once you get into the game, it seems like you can't put it down. Nintendo Software Technology (NST) really has proven to be an essential part of the Nintendo experience with this game. I look forward to their many other upcoming GBC undertakings. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Bionic Commando plays like the typical "2D" shooter. Those of us who are at least somewhat familiar with the genre will be at home. Bionic Commando is interesting because it requires players to use thier surroundings and skills to complete each area. The use of your Bionic Arm to "hook" onto platforms is probably the most used skill in the game. The way some areas are completed might be reptitive, but overall the game manages to keep things interesting by adding new ways of destroying bosses (which can require some skill and problem-solving) or solving puzzles. The sniper mode is an interesting twist, and adds to the experience. Bionic Commando's gameplay is impressive to say the least, which is quite a compliment coming from someone who is very picky! Liked: Interesting areas, bosses, and overall gameplay. Hated: Somewhat repetitive gameplay, but nothing generally bad. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Bionic Commando features some of the most impressive graphics available in a GBC game. The animation is excellent, also. One of the greatest features are the high-res cinematic screens. They look wonderful and polish the overall graphical element of Bionic Commando. Another interesting graphical touch is the first-person sniper mode. By no means is it a revolution, but looks good nonetheless. Liked: Excellent in-game and cinematic graphics, amazing animation. Sniper mode looks interesting. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Bionic Commnado excels in the music/sound department. The music is good, and the sound effects are, too. The best part is the fact that NST included loads of digitized human speech. It really adds quite a bit to the game's sound. Liked: Great music and loads of speech. Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The control is generally good in BC. To master the control should only take gamers a few minutes. My biggest gripe was that you have to "hook" unto all surfaces, which can get some getting used to. But, nothing really to complain about, here. Liked: Generally good control. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Nothing generally needs to be improved upon. I feel NST truely did their very best with this title. **************************************************************************** Final Words: NST really showed they can develop an interesting and polished title. Nothing seems rushed or amateur in this title, which is a great acomplishment for such a new developer. If you are looking for a great GBC game that offers great graphics, sound, and gameplay vareity, this game is for you! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: 4.5/5 stars Graphics: 5/5 stars Sound/Music: 5/5 stars Play Control/Game Design: 4.5/5 stars Personal Opinion: 4.5/5 stars Total: 23.5/25 stars Final Score: 94% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
