A-Mazing Tater Game by Atlus Reviewed by Foxlord Foxlord@aol.com Size: no bloody clue Save: password feature Released: 1991 Works with: works with all Gameboys including Advance (no sound break-up) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I really always liked these games starring the walking talking intelligent fruits and vegetables, although my favorite will always be "Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom" on the old NES :) **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: You play as Spud, a walkin' talkin' potato, who has to get through some tricky Puzzles. The game plays in a Bird's-eye view of the puzzle screen. Spud is trapped in various rooms filled with different shaped blocks, rotating blocks, and holes that have to be filled. To end the level and solve the puzzle, you have to get to the flag that awaits. Modes of Play: Beginner's Mode: Mato Tomato is your tutor and shows you how the game is played. Basic simple stuff. Puzzle Mode: 4 Levels (Easy, Average, Hard, and Pro) 10 stages per Level. Game saved by password feature. (a feature that Kwirk really should have had, which is why i like this game better then Kwirk) Practice Mode: has a 1 Player and a Vs Mode (good luck finding someone with a copy of this one) you choose your difficulty: Easy, Average or Pro. select the number of rooms you wish to beat (min 1 max 30) and just go at it. Action Mode: Mega Picnic and Puzzle Forest. The only true "plot" in this game you're either racing against others, or trying to find your way out of a forest. (via randomly selected puzzles of various difficulty)The number of tries you take and the length of time you take all have to do with your progress. This one's very easy to pick up and play and can get addictive, the password feature is quite welcomed, too. Lots of tricky puzzles, too. heck I haven't even beaten the game, yet :) Liked: Fun Puzzles! Passwords save your progress Hated: Some of the puzzles are so tough you'll be pulling your hair out of your head. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: It's a bird's eye view of the puzzles, there is no blurring (even on the old GB) To be quite frank, the graphics really suck, but with a game like this you don't need flashy graphics. Liked: No Blur, looks good on the GB Advance Hated: Graphics **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Very happy sounding game, nothing you'll want to record on MP3 and share with your friends, though. turn the volume down. Liked: You can turn the Volume Down Hated: Too darned cheerful! **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: It's simple, you only need to use the B button to switch characters, when necessairy. The A Button brings up the: Restart, undo and quit options. Atlus did a great job on making some well designed puzzles, but some of them are Really tough! Liked: Well designed, clever puzzles Hated: Sometimes a little too tough. **************************************************************************** Improve: Well. I'd improve the sound of the Game, mayve swap the password for a battery back-up, add more puzzles, and improve the graphics a bit...err.. a lot. RIYL: Kwirk: The chilled Tomato **************************************************************************** Final Words: This Game, besides starring talking vegetables and fruits, is one of the more enjoyable puzzle games made for the system. The game does take a lot of patience as well as brain power. The Graphics and sound are the game's only flaws and would have scored much higher otherwise. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: 5 Graphics: 3 Sound/Music: 2 Play Control/Game Design: 5 Personal Opinion: 4.5 Total: 19.5/25 Final Score: %78 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Nope.
