Adventure Island Game by Hudson Soft Review by The Avardancer Size: 1 Megabit Save: none Released: 1991 Works with: Any version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: One of my friends handed me a copy of this game to review. I had only heard a little about the Adventure Island series. I do know that you get to use a skateboard. And I'll be real and tell you right now that the character looks really cheesy. But, he does get hot girls. (Maybe that grass skirt has something to do with that?) Gameplay: You start out without a weapon, and one hit kills you. The first few levels are really easy. There's a break down between levels that allows you to play a bonus game for lives or fight a boss. This is straight hop 'n' bop. Nothing innovative or original. Just fun. The Skateboard and dino rides are fun. You get from point A to point B; there's no really variety. Graphics: Master Higgins looks like a fat guy in a diaper. The graphics do the trick and are easy to see. They aren't complex. Sound: Practically none existent. And what is there is generic. But at least it is clear. Music: Kind of annoying after a while. Unusual "tropical" stuff. It's a little "glitzy" and matches the mood of the game. Play Control: Sluggish; but responsive. They work well; but don't add anything to the overall game. They're just "there". Final Analysis: This is okay and worthy purchase if you want an easy distraction. Hudson is known for it's Bomberman games, not it's lack luster Adventure Island games. If you like side scrollers, you'll enjoy this fun game; although for a limited time.
