Robocop Versus The Terminator Game by Interplay Reviewed by Don Komarechka don@electricpickleonline.com Size: Unknown Save: None Released: August 1994 Works with: DMG / MGB / CGB / AGB / AGS / GBP **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Ok, the title says it all. Slam two lisenses together because you know very well that just one of them isn't enough to be a cash cow. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: You play as Robocop, robotic hero of the streets and fight your way into the future to put a stop to skynet. Ok... well, thats an interesting idea, right? You start in present day (if in this case, 1994) and warp to the future battling robots and androids alike. and a few people here and there. Liked: had a classic idea. Hated: did a bad job at implementing it. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: They tried.... they tried so hard and failed. You can tell a lot of effort went into the graphics... but in the end a lot of it just ended up blending together or looking too repeatative. Detail is there, but its hard to see. Would have been much better in colour. Liked: Noticeable amount of detail. Hated: hard to see anything. Especially which way the conveyor belts are moving. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Again, they tried. By listening to the music in the game you can tell it shoudl sound nice, just not coming out of a gameboy. Whoever did the music (John Loose, according to the credits) should have kept in mind the technical limitations of the system when making the music. Sound effects outright suck. I mean suck. SOmetimes I hear beeps and bloops and haven't the slightest clue why they were heard and where they were coming from, and the ones I did understand (gunshots, etc) weren't anything special. Plays just as nice, if not less annoying with the sound off. Liked: E for Effort Hated: F for Fail. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: You can jump, crouch, and shoot.. all the basics. Gameplay is mediocre... level design is even less. Certain parts of levels simply repeat. No saves, once you die its back to the start. Liked: Nothing stands out. Oh! You can outrun some bullets. thats kinda fun. Hated: No saves. aiming sucks. **************************************************************************** Improve: should have waited for gameboy color. might have been worth it then. RIYL: side-scrolling shooters... **************************************************************************** Final Words: This game was a cash cow. Limited development cycle, skeleton crew, and lisenses you can't make good games with. Its not their fault. Its Interplay's fault it sucks. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: 3 Graphics: 4 Sound/Music: 2 Play Control/Game Design: 3 Personal Opinion: 3 Total: 15 Final Score: 30% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
