Chapter 1

*YAWN*. Katie yawns as she sits up in bed."Charmander." "Good morning Hope." Katie patsHope on the head and looks at her watch. "I hope the Prof.is up." Katie walks over to the phone and dials the number.Katie smiles as Professor Oak answers. "Hey Professor Oak! Iwas just calling to see how my pokémon are doing." "Ohhi Katie, your pokémon are doing just fine. The only problem isyour Gengar has quite a strange sence of humor." "Whatdo you mean?" "Today I woke up and it was floating meoutside the window." Professor Oak shudders. "But allyour other pokémon are doing great." "Well that's goodnews." "How's your training coming along? Where are youcalling from anyway?" "It's going great! The only thingis I've only got 2 badges, and I'm in Lavender Town."Professor Oak is very confused. "How'd you end up there?Shouldn't you have headed to Vermilion City?" "I washeading there, except I got a little side tracked." Katiejumps as Michelle taps her on the shoulder. "Who you talkingto Katie?" "Oh, I'm talking to Professor Oak."Katie turns back to the phone. "Why hello there Michelle,how's it going?" Proffesor Oak asks "Just fineProffesor Oak. I'm going to feed the pokémon, ok?" Michellesays to Katie, and as usuall as soon as food is mentionedSandshrew is right there "Ok" Michelle leaves the room,Sandshrew at her heels. "Charmander!" Hope waves toProf. Oak. "You have a Charmander? But what about thatCharizard you had when you first left with Bulbasaur?""I let it go. And the fam..." Katie was suddenly cutoff by Prof. Oak, "You let it go! That Charizard was in tiptop condition!" "Prof. I let it go because it missedit's family, but Hope here was willing to come with me. Any wayI'd rather raise a pokémon from the begging to prove I canbecome the best by useing my own trained pokémon." Prof.Oak finnally calmed down. "Alright, anything importanthappen?" "Bulbasaur evolved into Ivysaur.""It did! That's great! One last thing before I go, a new gymhas just opened in that town." "I know. Well, goodbyeProf." "Goodbye, Katie. And take care."

Chapter 2

Katie, Michelle, Champ, and Hope walk down the street. "Iwonder who the gym leader is, and what type of pokémon theyuse?" Katie said nervously. "Charmander, charmander." "I wish I was as confident as you Hope."Hope spots a crowd gathering at the entrance to what looked likea cave with doors. They walk over. "So this is thegym?" Katie's very confused, she's never seen a gym like it."Yeah, I heard the trainer uses dragon type pokémon."Katie looks over at the boy who said that. "Really?""Yeah, that's why no one wants to challenge the gym leader.No one has the right pokémon to fight dragon type." Katielooks up, some person standing on top of the gym is about to makean anouncement. "Attention. Attention. Is there anyonewilling to take on the gym leader first?" The crowd goessilent. "Charmander." Hope is pulling at Katie's leg."Hope stop it." Hope runs out in front of the crowd."Hope, come back!" Katie, Michelle, and Champ pushthrough the crowd after Hope. "Looks like we have avolenteer!" Katie picks up Hope and looks up."Me?" Katie gulps as, Michelle, Hope, Champ, andherself are pushed into the gym. "Gee, thanks Hope."Hope smiles and leads the way down the dark tunnel. "Hello?Hello?" Katie calls out as they go deeper underground. Theyall jump as they walk into a room and some lights flash on.

"Welcome to my gym! My name is Carla. Are you here tochallenge me?" "Yeah." Katie says nervously."Alright than! We each get to use 3 pokémon.Allright?" Katie nodds. "Cubone, I choose you!"Carla throws a pokéball and out pops a Cubone. "Cubone bonebone." Katie stares in shock. "Pokéball go!"Katie throws a pokéball.

Chapter 3

Katie's pokéball flies through the air, seeming to go in slowmotion. It spins, and spins, and spins as it flies. Finnally itopens, the red beam shoots out of the pokéball, everyone holdstheir breath as the pokémon takes shape. "Ivysaur!"Katie had sent out Ivysaur. "Cubone, bonerang!" Cubonethrew it's bone at Ivysaur. "Ivysaur, dodge the bone andtackle Cubone!" Ivysaur jumped out of the way and hit Cubonewith great force. "Cubone! Are you ok?" Carla ran up toCubone. Katie looked behind her because she heard something."AAHH!! Cubone's bone!" Katie dove out of the way, butIvysaur took a direct hit. "Ivysaur!" It screamed as itflew accross the room. "Ivysaur!" Katie ran next toIvysaur. Ivysaur though now a little weak was fine. Katie lookedover at Cubone and Carla, they had gotten up and were ready tofight again. "Allright Cubone, let's show them what you'vebeen taught. Use confuse ray!" Cubone stared at Ivysaur thanit blinked and Ivysaur was confused. "Cubone!Bonerang!" Cubone's bone once again came flying accross theroom in Ivysaurs direction. "Do what you did last timeIvysaur!" Ivysaur didn't exactly do what t had done lasttime, this time it dodged Cubone and tackled the bone!"Ivy!" It groaned in pain as it was knocked back by theforce of the bone. "Ivysaur!" Ivysaur lyed there sicklooking. "Ivysaur, return." Ivysaur was zapped backinside it's pokéball. "Pokéball, go!" This time Katiesent out Pidgey. "Pidgey! Pidgey!" Katie looked atCubone. "Pidgey wing attack!" Pidgey hit Cubone,knocking it down. "Cubone, just try to use confuse ray, justtry!" Cubone wearily got up and stared at Pidgey."Pidgey don't look Cubone in the eye!" Pidgey turnedaround and stared away from Cubone. "Cubone useBonerang!" Cubone's bone flew toward Pidgey's back."Pidgey knock the bone away with Gust!" Pidgey whirledaround and blew the bone back at Cubone. "Cubone!?!?"The bone knocked Cubone smack in the skull. Cubone fainted."Cubone return. Sandslash, I choose you!" The Sandslashcame out of it's pokéball. "Pidgey! Gust attack, now! Huh?Pidgey's evolveing!" Everyone looked up at Pidgey."Pidgey Pidgey..... Pidgeotto!" Pidgey evolved intoPidgeotto! "Pidgeotto! Gust attack, now!" Sandslashstared at Pidgeotto. "Pidgeooo!!!!" Pidgeotto squakedas it made a giant tornado and sent it towards Sandslash."Sandslash dig underground!" Sandslash dug a holeunderground, avoiding the tornado. "Hm." Katiethought, " I can't use a move like gust, becauseSandslash will just dig underground, but I can't use physicalattacks because of it's spines. Or can I?" "QuickPidgeotto! Fly to the ceiling!" Pidgeotto flew as high as itcould. Just than Sandslash burst out of the ground and zoomed uptowards Pidgeotto, but couldn't get high enough to reach it."Pidgeotto roll it on it's back with a wind attack and thanpeck at it's underbelly!" Pidgeotto zoomed closer toSandslash and created a small whirlwind, knocking the Sandslashon it's back, than attacked it's underbelly. Sandslash, panicinghurt itself in it's confusion and fainted. "Sandslash,return. Go Pokéball!"

Chapter 4

Katie held her breath, fearful that this last pokémon wasdragon type. The pokémon began to form. It was pretty big."Nidoqueen!" Katie let out a sigh of relief asNidoqueen appeared, it wasn't a dragon type but would still be atough opponent. "Pidgeotto return. Go Hope!" Hope ranforward ready for battle. "Nidoqueen Skullbash!"Nidoqueen charged toward Hope, head lowered. "Hope!Flamethrower attack, now!" Hope used Flamethrower right inNidoqueen's face, causeing it to go off track and miss."Hope! Rage, now!" "Nidoqueen, tackle it!"Nidoqueen tackled Hope knocking it back, but also causeing it'stail flame to grow tremendously. "Hope! Tackle attack,now!" Hope ran and tackled the Nidoqueen, inflicting a lotof damage. Nidoqueen fell down, fainted. "Nidoqueen, return.Congragulations, you have earned the Reeses Badge." Shehanded Katie a Badge. "Thanks!" Katie said excitedly,and walked away with Michelle, Hope, and Champ. "I shouldn'thave listened to those rumors." Katie said to her friends asthey reached the door. They pushed open the door and there stoodthe crowd and a bunch of reporters asking how bad she was beatenby the dragon pokémon. Katie, Michelle, Hope, and Champ werepushed on top of the gym. "There weren't any dragonpokémon. She owns ground type." The entire crowd wasshocked that she didn't have dragon type, but at the same timerelieved. Katie, Michelle, Hope, and Champ got down and headedtoward Saffron City.

Chapter 5

They walked down the path Katie gloating about how she was thefirst to earn a Reeses Badge. "Ok. Ok. Katie we know you gotthe Reeses Badge. Now can you please shut up about it."Michelle said angrily. "Oh, sorry." Katie replied. Justthan they were tackled to the ground by Team Rocket. Hope andChamp tackled Team Rocket off of them. "Here comestrouble," "Make that double." "To protect theworld from devastation," "To unite all peoples withinour nation." "To denouce the evils of truth andlove," "To extend our reach to the stars above.""Jesse" "James" "Team Rocket blast offat the speed of light!" "Surrender now or prepare tofight!" "Meowth! That's right!" Katie and Hopestared at Team Rocket ready to fight, while Michelle and Champjust stood there confused. "Hand over all your rare pokémonand we won't hurt you." "Never." "Than youleave us no chose. Arbok, go!" "Wheezing, go!"Arbok and Wheezing came out of their pokéballs. "Hope,Champ. Flamethrower attack, now!" "Arbok gounderground!" "Wheezing follow it!" Arbok andWheezing dove underground before Hope and Champ could torch them.Arbok burst out of the ground and attacked Champ, with Wheezingclose behind, who tackled Hope. Katie gasped. "Hope, Champ,return!" Katie returned Hope and Champ to some pokéballs."Ivysaur, Sandshrew, I choose you!""Ivysaur!" "Sandshrew!" Team Rocket beat themthrough cheating. "Ivysaur, Sandshrew, return!" Ivysaurand Sandshrew returned. Team Rocket, again through cheating whichKatie and Michelle couldn't stop beat up the rest of theirpokémon. "Oh my god! Team Rocket is actually doing good atsomething!?" Michelle shouted in shock. "Well, lookslike our only choose Michelle is, RUN!" They ran away withTeam Rocket close behind. As soon as Team Rocket caught up theyall were pulled upward, trapped in a net. They struggled, butcouldn't get out. "Looks like the only way we're getting outis if someone comes along and lets us down." Katie said asJesse and James continued to struggle. They waited all day, andwere stuck in the net that night.

Chapter 6

Finnally early the next day some trainers came along."Look at that! Team Rocket's stuck in a net!" It wasAsh, Brock, and Misty. "Oh great. It figures that thislittle twerp would come along." Jesse said angrily. "Ithink we should just leave them there. If we let them down theymight try to steal your Pikachu again Ash." Misty said. Theybegan walking away. "Hey! Wait! Team Rocket's not the onlyones stuck up here!" Katie shouted anxiously.. "There'ssomeone else up there." Brock said to Ash and Misty."Katie?" Ash said a littlesurprised."Michelle?" Misty said also surprised"Yes it's us, now can you get us down. We've been stuck withthese morons all night." "Meowth. Who are you calling amoron." Meowth said angrily than scratched Katie's face."OW!" "Just get us down." Michelle saidimpatiantly. They found the rope and cut it, dropping them tenfeet to the ground. Katie, Michelle, Jesse, James, and Meowth allgot up. "Now to get that Pikachu." Jesse said smiling."Pikachu, Thunder Bolt!" "Pi...Ka...CHUUUU!!!!!" Pikachu electricuted Team Rocket who ran."Thanks." Katie said as they walked toward SaffronCity. When they arrived they went to the pokémon Center andhealed their pokémon, before getting a hotel room for the night.The next day Katie asked Ash about the Saffron gym leader. Ash,Misty, and Brock looked terrified. "You want to challengeSabrina! I tell you it was horrible! The first time Ash lost, sheused us as bowling pins!" Misty said nervously. "Andthe second time, she turned us into dolls!" Brock saiduneasily. "What type of pokémon does she have?" Katieasks now uncertain if she should bother challengeing her."Last time I knew, she had a Kadabra." Ash says, alittle worried. "Kadabra?" Katie takes out her pokédexand looks up Kadabra. "Kadabra. The evolved form ofAbra. This pokémon uses it's psychic powers to beat up it'soponent." "A psychic pokémon, huh? I could useGengar! It would do great against her Kadabra!" Katie was soexcited and so confident that she ran out the door, before Ashcould warn her about what happened to him. Katie rushed to thePC, put back Rattata, and got Gengar. Than she headed to the Gym.She entered the room with Sabrina in it. There was a Haunterfloating around, too. "Sabrina. I challenge you to amatch." Katie said, completely confident. "Ok. Kadabra,go." Kadabra came out of it's pokéball. "Gengar! Ichoose you!" Katie through in the pokéball, and out cameGengar. "Gengar!" It said, a big smile accross it'sface. "Kadabra. Psychic." Kadabra used Psychic, butGengar wasn't even effected. "Gengar! Nightshade, now!""Gengar attacked with nightshade. "Kadabra.Recover." Kadabra fully recovered. "Gengar! Lick,now!" Gengar disappeared and reappeared in front of Kadabra.It licked Kadabra and paralized it. "Kadbra. MegaPunch." Kadabra tried to use Mega Punch, but couldn't move."Gengar! Nightshade as strong as you can!" Gengarpowered up and attacked with a powerful, Nightshade attack.Kadabra wobbled a little, than fainted. "It looks like youwin." Sabrina handed her a badge, than Katie left."Good work Gengar." Katie looked over than startedcracking up at Gengar's antics. "Gengar! Gengar!Gengar!" It laughed happily.

Chapter 7

Katie went back into the hotel. Since people around her werequivering and staring at Gengar she returned it to it'spokéball. "Guess what!" Katie said to everyone as shewalked into their room. "I got another badge!" Ash,Brock, and Misty stood there shocked, while Michelle justshrugged. "Didn't your Gengar run away?" Ash askedstill surprised. "Of course not. Why would it?" Katiesaid, confused at Ash's question. "Ah, never mind."Katie and Michelle packed up their stuff and left. Out along theroute to Celadon City, they decided to look for more pokémon.After a couple hours of searching, but not finding anything theyheaded back toward the road. "What's that?" Michelleasked, pointing to what looked like a Growlithe without it'sstripes, and a flame for a tail. "I don't know." Katiesaid taking out her pokédex. "Searching data. Pleasewait." They waited a couple minutes and watched as whatever it is climbed a tree, which they knew Growlithes couldn'tdo. "Hey look at Champ." Katie said glanceing at Champ.Champ was staring at the creature like it was in love. "Ithink Champs in love." Michelle said smiling at Katie. "Nodata found. There are still pokémon yet to be discovered." "Allright! An undiscovered pokémon! I'm going to catch it!"Katie said taking out a pokéball. "Gengar! I chooseyou!" Gengar popped out and imediately disapeared."Gengar!" It shouted as it reappeared up in the tree,next to the creature. "FLARE!" yelled the creaturejumping from the tree away from Gengar. "Gengar! Nightshadeattack, now!" Gengar was about to use Nightshade, but Champjumped in front of the creature, protecting it. "Champ! Iguess if your going to do that you'll have to stay in yourpokéball." Katie said returning Champ. "Try it againGengar." Gengar used night shade as Champ struggled to getout of the pokéball. "Champ! Stop it! I'm sending you tothe Prof. for now." Katie said opening her pokédex andsending Champ to the Prof. "Flare!" the creature triedtackleing Gengar, but went right through it. "Gengar!Confuse Ray attack, now!" Gengar used confuse ray andconfused the creature. "Flare?" It said confused, butmanaged to use Fire Blast, takeing out Gengar. "Gengar,return. Pikachu! I choose you!" Pikachu popped out of it'spokéball. "Pikachu!" It squeaked happily."Pikachu! Thunderbolt attack, now!" "Pi... Ka...CHUUUUU!!!!" Pikachu shouted electricuting the creature."Time to try out this new ball. Great ball, GO!" Katiethrew the great ball at the creature. It was zapped inside andbegan struggling. "Ping." The little red light wentout. "Yes! I caught!" Katie stopped suddenly realizeingshe didn't know what it was. "Oh, yeah. I forgot that it'sundiscovered. Come on guys, let's get to Celadon before it getsdark." They got to the Pokémon Center just as it wasgetting dark. "Hi. I need you to heal my pokémon."Katie said to Nurse Joy. "Ok, let's see them." She saidas Katie handed over the pokéballs and handed over Hope. Acouple minutes later there was a scream coming from back whereNurse Joy was. Katie and Michelle ran back to see what was thematter. "What's the matter?!?" Katie shouted insurprise. "What is that thing?!" Nurse Joy shoutedstill shocked. "Oh, that's a pokémon I found today."Katie said calming down. Nurse Joy calmed down too and beganlooking it over. "What are you going to call it?" NurseJoy asked. "I don't know." Katie replied while Michelleleft. "Flare." It said to Katie. "Huh?""Flare." It replied. "You want to be calledFlare?" "Flare!" It replied smiling. "Ok.Than that's what you'll be called. Flare."

Chapter 8

The next morning Katie woke up early. "Only 6:00 A.M. Ishould probably let the Prof. sleep, but have to tell him thegood news!" Katie dialed the number and waited and waited.Finnally her Rattata picked up. "Rattata!" it squeakedhappy to see Katie. "Rattata! Is Proffesor Oak there?"Rattata nodded and walked off into another room. Meanwhile Champshowed up at the phone. Still mad at Katie for fighting theFlare. "Hi Champ!" Champ just turned around away fromKatie. "Look Champ, I caught her because you loved her. Andif I left her there you'd never get to see her again.""Growl. Ithe." said Champ, still angry. "Allright, all right. I admit it. I also caught her because she's anundiscovered pokémon. You happy now. I admited it." Champstill sat there. "Oh, come on Champ. Are you going to letone thing get in the way of our friendship." Growlithestarted to turn around. "At least this way you can be withher, and still have me as a friend. Come on Champ. What do yousay? Will you forgive me?" Katie looked at him for ananswer. "Growl." Champ nodded. The Prof walks into theroom. "Katie what are you doing up so early? Where areyou?" The Prof said groggily. "Guess what Prof! Idiscovered a new pokémon!" The Prof's eyes practicallypopped out of his head. "YOU WHAT!?!?!?!" "Idiscovered a new pokémon." Katie repeated. "See?"She let out Flare. "Flare!" it said and than smiled atChamp who sighed and had the biggest grin on his face."Wow!" Shouted Proffesor Oak. "Where areyou?" "Celadon City." "I'll be there in abouttwo hours!" "Ok. But first send Champ back to me.""Ok. Bye." "Bye." Katie hung up the phone andwent back to bed after getting Champ back. She woke up an hourand a half later. *YAWN* "I guess I'd better getchanged." She yawned and changed."Char!" Hope raninto the room and greeted Champ. "GoodmorningMichelle." Katie greeted Michelle as she walked into theroom. "Morning Katie." "Michelle, the Prof iscoming in half an hour." "Oh, ok." They orderedbreakfast and fed the pokémon. They waited half an hour fortheir breakfast but it didn't come. "It shuld've been hereby now." Michelle commented. "And the Prof should'vebeen here by now too." Katie replied. "I'll go check tosee what's the hold up." Katie said to Michelle."Char." said Hope who wanted to go too. "Ok hopeyou can come." Katie walked down stairs and was imediatelyshocked by what she saw. There was the Prof covered in foodbecause he had tripped over their breakfast cart as he wasrunning to the stairs, and now they were trying to kick him out."But you don't understand! There's an important pokémondiscovery waiting for me upstairs!" He complained."Yeah right buddy. Now get out!" Katie ran over to themwith Hope at her side. "Wait! I've been expecting him."Katie told the clerk. "Well all right. If you were expectinghim. But next time tell us if your expecting someone." Theclerk said to Katie. "Ok. Sorry." She said and walkedupstairs with the Prof.When she opened the door Michelleimediately said "Hi Prof! Katie where's our breakfast?""He's wearing it." Katie replied pointing to the Prof.All the pokémon began cracking up.

Chapter 9

The Prof went and changed into something clean and came backout. "Ok, let's see that new pokémon." He said."Flare. Come here for a minute." Katie said into thenext room where the pokémon had gone. Flare came out with Champclose behind. "Flare?" It asked. "The Prof wouldlike to gather some information about you. Is that ok?"Katie said to Flare. "Flare." Flare nodded. Prof. Oakquickly gathered information on it and programed it into Katie'spokédex. "The only things I can't program in are if itevolves, and what moves it has." the Prof said to Katie."Flare what moves do you know?" Katie asked Flare."Flare, fla re, re, flare re fla." "What did itsay?" Prof asked Katie. "I think it said Flamethrower,Tackle, Fireblast, and Fireball?" Katie said unsure aboutthe last one. "Flare." Flare nodded saying she wasright. "Well we'll need to gather some information on thisFireball attack." said the Prof. "Ok, let's go try itout." Katie replied. They all left the hotel and went to anear by field. "A Pidgey! A perfect pokémon to try it outon!" Katie shouted spotting a Pidgey. "Pidgey?"said the Pidgey, a little confused. "Flare! I chooseyou!" Flare came out of it's pokéball. "Flare!"it barked. "PIDGEY!?!" squaked the Pidgey, terrified."Flare! Fireball attack, now!" Flare began glowing andburst into a giant ball of flames. It zoomed at the Pidgey,burning it's feathers. "PIDGEY!!!!!!" it squacked inpain. "Flare, enough." Flare reformed into a pokémon."Flare, return!" Michelle walked over to the Pidgey,and gave it a full heal. "There you go. It would be cruel toleave a poor injured Pidgey to fend for itself in such badshape." Everyone agreed."Now to try it out in a realbattle!" Katie said eagerly as they approached the Gym. Theyentered the building. "Hello! May I help you?" said agirl beind a desk. "Yes. I'm here to challenge Erica."Katie replied, walking up to the counter. "Yes and whatabout them?" she asked pointing to the Prof and Michelle."I was hoping to buy some perfume that I heard they makehere." said Michelle "All right. Down that corridor andto the left." said the girl, and Michelle left. "AndI'm hear to study a just discovered pokémon in a pokémonbattle." said the Prof. "He's with me." said Katiequickly. "All right. Follow me." They walked along acorridor and came to a large room. "Erica! Here is someonewho wishes to challenge you!" She shouted in. Katie, Hope,Champ, and the Prof walked in. "All right. We each get touse 3 pokémon. I choose Weepinbel!" A Weepinbel appeared.Katie opened her pokédex, and the Prof recited the exert alongwith the pokédex. "Weepinbel. A grass pokémon. Thispokémon is the evolved form of Bellsprout and attacks withvarious grass menovers." Katie smiled. "Flare! Ichoose you!" Erica was very surprised at Flare. She had noidea what it was. "Flare! Flamethrower attack, now!"Katie shouted and Flare obeyed. "Weepinbel! Dodge it!"Weepinbel jumped aside. "Weepinbel use sleep powder!"Weepinbel threw a sleep powder on Flare, who fell asleep."Flare return. Champ! I choose you!" Champ leapedforward. "Groowwwwlllithe!" It barked, angry at theWeepinbel. "Weepinbel use Razorleaf!" Several of theleaves hit Champ, but as a natural defence mechinizem he lit therest on fire, scorching Weepinbel. "Weepinbel return. Ichoose Tangela!" Tangela popped out of it's pokéball"Tangela use Vinewip!" Tangela wrapped it's vinesaround Champ. "Champ! Set the vines on fire!" butbefore Champ could do this, Tangela wrapped it's vines around hismouth. "Champ return! Hope! I choose you!" Hope ranforward, but Tangela did the same thing to Hope, as it did toChamp. "Hope set the vines on fire with your tailflame!" Hope brought it's flame close to the vines, whichcaught on fire. "Tangela!" shouted Erica in a panic.She quickly put out the flames with some water. "Tangelareturn! I choose Gloom!" Gloom came out and once it saw Hopeit imiediately paniced and let out it's scent. Everyone in theroom began coughing and gaging on the smell. "Hope!"Katie watched as Hope fainted. "Hope return!" Katiereturned Hope to it's pokéball. "Looks like you lose."said Erica. "Not yet I haven't. Flare! I choose you!"Katie sent out Flare who was still asleep. "What are youdoing!" cried the Prof "You can't send out a sleepingpokémon!" "All I have to do is wake Flare up and itcan fight." Katie replied. "Gloom Razorleaf!"Gloom used Razorleaf on Flare, almost waking it. "Come onFlare! Wake Up!" Katie shouted desperately. "GloomVinewip!" The second Flare was hit with one of the Vines itwoke up. Gloom continued to beat on Flare with Vinewip."Flare! Fireball attack, now!" Flare weakly burst intoa ball of Flames and rolled toward Gloom. "Come on Flare!Try your very hardest!" Katie urged. Flare rolled faster andhit Gloom, causeing enough injury to make Erica return Gloom."Flare, enough!" Flare reformed into a pokémon."Looks like you know what your doing after all!" saidErica. "Here's the next badge!" She handed Katie thebadge. "Flare return." Flare returned to the pokéball.As they were leaving Katie asked the girl at the counter"Could you tell my friend Michelle that we'll be at thePokémon Center?" "Sure." Katie and the Prof leftand went to the Pokémon Center.

Chapter 10

"I must hand it to you Katie, you certainly seem to knowwhat your doing." Katie smiled. "Your pokémon are finenow." Said Nurse Joy, handing Katie her pokéballs."Thanks." Katie imediately let out Champ and Hope."Char char!" Hope said, happily. "Growlithe!"Champ ran towards Michelle as she walked through thedoor."Hi Champ!" Michelle greeted Champ. "HeyKatie. Hey Prof." They greeted each other. "I justremembered! Hand me your pokédex Katie." shouted the Prof.Katie handed him the pokédex. The Prof started programing someinformation in and than handed it back. "Newinformation. Mew, a recently discovered pokémon found deep inthe jungles of Africa. This small pokémon has incredibly strongpsychic powers and can learn any move, but is strangely friendly.Mewtwo, a genetically engineered pokémon. It is the baby of Mewwith even greater strenth. But unlike it's mother, this vengefullpokémon is evil and will intentionly cause massdestruction." "Whoa!" Katie stared wide eyedat the pokédex. "Char." Hope looked in awe at thedifference between the 2 pictures of Mew, and Mewtwo. "Man,that Mewtwo thing sounds tough." Michelle commented."Yeah." Katie agreed putting away the pokédex."Well, we better get going." Katie said standing up."I can't wait to see my family again." "Yes. Ibetter get back to the lab too." They said there goodbyesand went their seperate ways. "I guess we have to take thelong route. They only alow people with bikes on the BicyclePath." Michelle pointed out. "And anyway I gotta go toVermilion City to challenge Lt. Surge." Katie said. So theyheaded back toward Saffron City, than headed south. "How doyou intend on beating Lt. Surge?" Michelle asked curiously."Well, Lt. Surge has electric types, so I'll useSandshrew." Katie said confidently. "But you haven'tused Sandshrew in a while, it might need some more experiencebefore it can fight Lt. Surge." Michelle said, a littleworried. "Your right. Sandshrew, time for sometraining." Katie let out Sandshrew. "Now let's findsome pokémon to make sure your skills are strong." Theysearched around some nearby fields and soon found the Vulpix theyhad befriended before. "Hi Vulpix." Katie saidcheerily. "I need to have Sandshrew battle some pokémon tomake sure it's strong enough to face Lt. Surge." Vulpixagreed to help train Sandshrew. "Sandshrew! Slash attack,now!" Sandshrew tried, and tried to land a hit on Vulpix,but couldn't seem to do it. "Sandshrew! Sand attack,now!" Sandshrew kicked up a bunch of sand into Vulpix'sface. "Now use Slash attack!" Sandshrew slashed atVulpix as hard as it could, but didn't cause much damage! "Iknew Sandshrew might need a little training, but it needs a lotmore than I thought!" They spent the rest of that daytraining Sandshrew, until it could finally take out any opponent,one hit. "*YAWN* Not only are you stronger Sandshrew, Ithink you lost a little wait." Katie said as she picked upSandshrew. They got to Vermilion City, only to find out all thehotel rooms were full. "Looks like we'll have to sleep inthe Pokémon Center" Michelle said walking inside. They lieddown and were soon fast asleep.

Chapter 11

"Katie, wake up. It's getting late." Katie looked ather watch. Hope and Champ were outside playing. "Allright." They got up and headed toward the gym. A crowd ofpokémon trainers had gathered near the only path to the entranceof the gym. "What's going on?" Katie asked a girl whostood there. "Oh, the path has been covered with thornybushes, and no one can seem to cut them down." Katie, Hope,Champ, and Michelle walked to the front of the crowd. A bunch ofCharmanders stood there trying their hardest to burn down thebushes. "Let me try." Katie said. All the Charmandersstood there, tired. "Michelle, let out Bubbles to make surethat if a fire is started that it doesn't get out of hand."Michelle nodded and let out Bubbles. "Hope, Champ, Flare,burn down those bushes." Can threw the pokéball holdingFlare. "Full power Flamethrower attack, now!" Theyunleashed such powerful flames that everyone backed away becauseof the intense heat. They were starting to burn down the busheswhen Hope, Champ and Flare, all needed to rest. "All, right.Once all our pokémon are rested, lets try it all at once."instructed Katie. Hope, Champ, and Flare caught their breath andgot ready to try it again. "All, right. Everyone ready? Theneveryone, Flamethrower attack, now!" All the fire pokémongave it their all, but didn't succeed. Everyone groaned and left.Katie, Hope, Champ, and Michelle were heading back to thePokémon Center when they were stopped by a man dressed in a ShipCaptains uniform. "Excuse me, but could you do me a favor?Can you look after my Exeggcute, while I run a few errands?"Katie and Hope looked at him confused, while Michelle and Champhad allready headed inside the Pokémon Center. "Why?"Katie asked. "Well, being the Captain of the S.S. Anne, Idon't have enough time to spend playing with and giving Exeggcutethe attention it needs. I don't want to leave it alone on theship again alone. So I decided to find a pokémon trainer to giveExeggcute some attention while I'm gone. So will you?" Katiesmiled. "Sure. I'll be in the Pokémon Center when you cometo pick it up." "Thank you! Thank you!" Thecaptain left quickly, leaving Exeggcute with Katie."Exeggcute." They said to Katie. "All right, comeon." Katie said to them, and walked into the PokémonCenter. "Katie who was that guy and what did he want?"Michelle asked as she noticed Katie. "That was the Captainof the S. S. Anne. I'm taking care of his Exeggcute while he'sgone." Michelle looked down at the Exeggcute."Exeggcute. Exeggcute." "Char. Charmander."Hope began talking to the Exeggcute. "When will he pick themup?" Michelle asked. "I don't know? He didn'tsay." Katie replied. "Anyway he's going to pick it uphere." Michelle nodded and watched as Hope and Exeggcutetalked. It became dark and was getting late. "Hmm. That'sstrange. That guy hasn't come for his Exeggcute yet." Katiestared out the window. Everything was calm. It was very late andKatie soon fell asleep.

Chapter 12

"Char?" Katie opened her eyes. "AAHH!!"Katie screamed and fell off the bench. "Exeggcute?"Exeggcute stared at Katie "Sorry Exeggcute. I didn't expectyou to be there." Katie looked around. "Your ownerstill hasn't shown?" Michelle looked at her worried."What if that guy doesn't show?" Katie stood up."Don't worry. If he still isn't here after breakfast we'llbring Exeggcute to the ship." They were soon done withbreakfast. "Katie there's still no sign of him." Katiewas still confident. "Well than, we'll just have to bringExeggcute back ourselves. Right Hope?" Hope gave Katie aworried look. They left the Pokémon Center and headed toward theharbor. "Char." Hope said in awe looking up at all thehuge beutiful ships in the harbor. "Wow. I didn't expect itto be so big." Katie commented. Hope saw a man aboard asmall boat. "Char char." It said tugging on Katie'spants. "Good idea Hope. Let's go ask where the S.S. Anneis." They walked over to the man. "Excuse me sir. Couldyou tell us where the S.S. Anne is?" The man looked up."The S.S. Anne? Sorry, it left last night." Katie,Hope, Michelle, Champ, and Exeggcute looked at the man inastonishment. "It did? But I'm looking after the captain'sExeggcute, and he never came to pick it up." The man lookedat Exeggcute. "Well, he probably didn't have the heart totell Exeggcute the truth." They looked at him like he had 9heads. "What truth?" The man stood up. "Thecaptain had to give his Exeggcute away because he couldn't carefor it. That's what the police said." Exeggcute begancrying. "Char." Hope and Champ comforted it. "Soyou can either let Exeggcute free, or you can keep it.""Thanks for the information." Katie said and theywalked off. "I'm sorry this had to happen to youExeggcute." Katie said to it. "Well it's your choice.You can choose to stay with me if you want. What do yousay?" Katie looked at Exeggcute. "Exeggcute." Itnodded. "Char!" Hope said happy to have a new friend.They walked over to the bushes by the gym. A crowd had gatheredagain. "Isn't there any way to get through." asked oneperson. "Yeah. The captain of the S.S. Anne can teachpokémon the Cut ability. That would be the only way to getthrough." Katie looked at Exeggcute, "Do you know themove Cut?" "Exeggcute." It nodded. Katie smiled."Come on than." They pushed to the front of the crowd."I can get through." Katie said. "Yeah. Like youdid yesterday." someone in the crowd snickered. Katie glaredat the person. "Just let me try." "Fine. We havenothing to lose." someone else said. "All rightExeggcute. Use your Cut ability on these bushes." Exeggcuteobeyed and began chopping down the bushes. Everyone stared inamazment as the bushes quickly disappeared. Everyone begancheering. "All right. Now it's time to get your sixth badgeKatie."

Chapter 13

They headed inside. "Finally someone with enough guts tochallenge me." said Lt. Surge from the corner. "There'splenty of people with enough guts. I'm just the first one that'sgotten through the bushes outside." They walked to theirplaces in the battle arena. People poured in to watch the battle."All right. I choose Raichu." Katie smiled. "And Ichoose Sandshrew." Katie sent out Sandshrew. "Thisbattle is between Lt. Surge with Raichu. And Katie withSandshrew." Said the anouncer. "Raichu! Give it aBodyslam!" "Raichu!" yelled Raichu as itbodyslammed poor Sandshrew. "Sandshrew! Dig attack,now!" Sandshrew dug underground just as Raichu was about tobodyslam it again. Raichu looked around. "All rightSandshrew! Now!" Katie yelled and Sandshrew burst out fromunder Raichu. "Raichu! Give it a Swift attack!" Raichuattacked Sandshrew with swift attack. "Sandshrew!"Katie yelled as Sandshrew fell to the ground, extremely weak."I told you that Sandshrew couldn't fight if it's lifedepended on it!" Katie looked up into the crowd. There wasJosh, Sandshrew's former abusive owner. Sandshrew stared at Joshangrily. "Raichu! Finish it off!" Raichu was about totackle Sandshrew but Sandshrew jumped out of harms way."Sandshrew!" Sandshrew yelled as it was surrounded bylight. "Huh? Sandshrew's evolveing!" Katie saidhappily. Josh stared in amazement. "Sandslash!" saidSandslash. "Sandslash! Slash attack, now!" Sandslashslashed at the surprised Raichu. "All right Sandlash! Finishit!" Katie yelled. "Raichu!" Raichu shouted justbefore fainting. "Raichu, return. You won so here's the nextbadge." Katie took the Thunder badge. "I still thinkit's worthless." Josh said coming down from the crowd.Sandslash angrily slashed at Josh. "Ha! You missed!"Just than Josh's pants fell down. Sandslash had slashed his belt.Josh, now embarassed pulled up his pants and left. "WellSandslash. I'm proud of you. You did a great job." Katiesmiled at Sandslash. "Sandslash." Sandslash smiled thanreturned to it's pokéball. "All right Exeggcute. You get togo stay with the Prof." Exeggcute went into a pokéball andwas transported to the Prof. Now with six badges, Katie,Michelle, Hope and Champ headed on their way toward Fushia City,Katie's home.
