QOTW: "I think the best part was when Sephiroth and Cloud kissed."
09.30 - Hudson Softens -

Importers rejoice! These will all be bargain priced.
09.30 - Statinography. -
The latest sales data is up in Japan. This is from the week right after
Tokyo Game Show. What's interesting to note is that Nintendo did not
get the new shipments of the Game Boy Micro to retailers until near the
end of that week. Also, TGS had a lot of new PSP announcements.
Interesting. Here you go!
- DS =68,123
- PSP =50,629
- GBM = 46,529
- PS2 = 25,518
- GBASP = 12,483
- GC = 2,267
- GBA = 448
- Xbox = 98
Since all we really care about are the handhelds. Here are the stats.
- Nintendo DS = 68,123
- GBA family = 59,460
- Sony PSP = 50,629
Is
it a little unfair to lump all the Game Boy variation families into the
same category? Not really. If I wanted to be unfair, I would lump total
sales of units into one statistic.
- Nintendo = 129,850
- Sony = 76,147
- Microsoft = 98
Total unit sales for all companies is 206,095.
That is definately healthy. Nintendo did not do too bad in unit sales
for a company that is in "last place." Nintendo owns almost 55% of the
market in Japan right now in terms of hardware sales. This bodes well
for attracting developer interest for their upcoming "Revolution"
console.
09.30 - RPGs run wild, injure two -
SquareEnix announced that Final Fantasy 4 for the GBA is part of their
Final Fantasy Port project. The breakdown looks like it may be like
this in the future. Falcom announced a Y's Strategy game for the
Nintendo DS, and Marvelous Interactive announced Contact which is being
directed by the producer of Killer 7. SquareEnix also announced
Children of Mana for the Nintendo DS, a new Seiken Densetsu game
similar in looks to Sword of Mana.
09.26 - Update? - Well, here is a small update FOR NO REASON!
09.22 - Sales Datas - Here
is the latest Japanese sales data from Media Create. The Game Boy Micro
cleaned up nicely. The PSP got a white version and the release of the
anticipated Final Fantasy Advent Children UMD + Winning 11. The
Nintendo DS really did not have anything new this week of note in
Japan. That said:
Here you go!
- Game Boy Micro - 170,306
- DS - 72,167
- PSP - 70,152
- PS2 - 24,396
- GBA SP - 11,147
- GC - 1,882
- GBA - 624
- Xbox - 109
Funny how
that happens, is it not? Even with two highly anticipated games and a
slow Nintendo DS week, the PSP was unable to catch up. Interesting. New
articles will be up on Friday. Rejoice!
09.21 - Micro V. SP -
Quietly, while no one was paying attention, the Game Boy Micro shipped
to some retailers. Other retailers will get the Game Boy Micro around
Friday of this week or Tuesday of the nexy week. If you wants a Micro,
best be on the look out! However, if you still prefer the SP; then do
we have something interesting for you. Apparently, Nintendo has lent
themselves to following Apple's lead of quietly upgrading existing
products. There are two new models of SP out now: Pearl Blue and
Graphite. Graphite is black and Pearl Blue is a strange pearl blue-ish
color. The difference between these two new colors and the older
versions of GBA SP is that they feature a new adjustable backlight.
They also rival the PSP in brightness -just like the Micro does- as
well as completely destroy the original SP and DS in terms of
brightness. So, if you want your old GB/GBC games on a bright new
screen, upgrade your Game Boy Advance SP to this new backlit version!
The GBA SP with brighter screen comes in at $79.99 MSRP. The screen is
not as sharp as the Micro screen though and features almost as much
non-activity (blur) as the PSP. Thank you, Nintendo. That was very
sneaky. Also on a sneaky note, they will be releasing Pink and Light
Blue Nintendo DS units this fall with Nintendogs: Best Friends Edition.
The difference between this new Nintendogs and the other three versions
is that this Nintendogs is exactly the same as the other three
versions; but features the most popular dogs from all three versions
right off the bat. This special version of Nintendogs is only available
as a bundle with the new Nintendo DS colors. That said, who wants to
take bets that Nintendo DOES NOT advertise the Play Yan Micro (SD Card
Adaptor) when it comes out over here. That will be funny. Just walk
into Wal-Mart and there it will be.
09.18 - Showers of love - Also, metal and slugs. SNK Play More announced at the Tokyo Game Show, and through Famitsu, the following games:
- Metal Slug 2 for Game Boy Micro.
- Metal Slug X for Game Boy Micro.
- Metal Slug 3 for Game Boy Micro.
- SNK VS CAPCOM: Card Fighters Clash for Nintendo DS.
To me, this
is the best news I have seen for the Game Boy Micro since the
announcement of Final Fantasy 4. I hope that CFC is not the only SNK VS
CAPCOM game to make it to a Nintendo handheld. Personally, I want a
port of "Match of the Millenium" for the Game Boy Micro, as long as the
port uses slightly enhanced CARTOONISH graphics like the NGPC game did.
That said, it looks like Nintendo's "Three Pillar" strategy is doing
just fine.
09.14 - Barking All Night -
The elusive Adam Pearson has taken it upon himself to translate and
contribute to the world, a section that you must visit if you love
Nintendogs as much as we do. Trust me, you will like it. Click! See the adorable button? IT COMPELS YOU.
09.14 - A few points of light -
QOTW means, Qoute Of The Whenever. That means I will change it at whim.
HA! The game Super Mario Bros. is now 20 years old. To celebrate, I
played the game on my NES the other day. Guess what I discovered: It
still rocks in nifty ways. Speaking of nifty, Nintendo announced they
will be publishing Final Fantasy 4 for the Game Boy Advance. So, we
have Final Fantasy 1 & 2, 3 on the Nintendo DS, and now 4 on the
Game Boy Advance. Last I checked, the PSP is getting an updated version
of the cell phone action game: Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core, and a UMD
of the Advent Children movie. Oh, I saw Advent Children and have been
busy converting it into GBM format for use on the Game Boy Advance
Movie Player, just to be extra hateful. Here is the best part of the
Final Fantasy 4 on GBA bit. Guess when it comes out? THIS CHRISTMAS. I
may not be getting Twilight Princess this year. But, at least I will be
spending time with Rydia, Cecil, and a spoony bard! YES! December 12,
2005 is when you will be able to pop this game into your Game Boy
Micro. Oh! The Nintendo DS is getting a 2D styled remake of Xenosaga 1
& 2. All the story and awesome of Xenosaga 1 & 2, with more
gameplay! Touch Kos-Mos, you know you want to.
09.12 - Controversial? - New Viral SPEAK! Okay. There you go! Consume!
09.11 - Twelve Day week? - Part of Viral Speak seemed oddly inappropriate for today, so the Viral Speak is delayed to Monday. See you then!
09.08 - Length Matters - Well, it was delayed a little, but update e19 is out for the Game Boy Advance Movie Player. Download it here!
The new update adds long name support and a shuffle option for the
music options. There is also resident GB rom support, but we are going
to forget that exists, okay? Oh! This
is cool, everyone buy me one. Why? Why not? Previously mentioned games:
Iron Feather and Lost Magic are both RPGs. The more RPGs the Nintendo
DS gets, the better!
QOTW: "Please Return Unoccupied."09.07 - Who said I can't update? -
Many thanks to Viral Speaker TK421 for pointing out an error with the
paw prints. Thank you! The latest issue of Famitsu confirmed some new
Nintendo DS titles. Some of which sound a little familiar. Here are the
ones they confirmed!
- Super Monkey Ball - Sega (Monkies in balls. You rub those balls to get your monkey moving. I mean nothing wrong by that.)
- Mawashite Koron - Taito (Name roughly translates to "Rotate Drop")
- Lost Magic - ? (Who is making this one? Is it an RPG?)
- New Dragon Ball Z - Banpresto (Another system, another Dragon Ball Z. It never stops.)
- Eye Shield 21
- Nintendo (Nintendo making an anime based American Football game?
Should Madden be worried? Will it play like an American Football RPG?)
- Iron Feather - Konami (An unknown, but I keep wanting to think it has to do with airplanes.)
That would be it for now, look forward to more updates later!
09.07 - Nab one and run! - No need to explain this.
I want one. Funny how Nintendo shows you a PRODUCT to sell you their
product, but Sony has to show you skin to sell you their products. If
you needed more proof that the Newspaper Press is a collection of
retards, check out this "review"
by a person named Matt Slagle, who reviewed a Game Boy Micro without
actually playing it. For one, it is immediately apparent when you pick
up a Game Boy Micro that it is made out of METAL and not plastic. The
reviewer than goes on to spit back the same false internet forum jargon
that people have been using in regards to the Micro since the unit was
announced. Apparently the reviewer is mad that the Game Boy Micro does
not play Nintendo DS games. He also takes a swipe at Kotaku with his Astro Boy comment. Then goes on to be an idiot complaining about the lack of an imbedded digital audio player, wireless gameplay,
and cell phone. Maybe he does not realize that adding a Micro Drive and
Wireless options to the Game Boy Micro would make it larger and more
expensive? I expect negative press on the Game Boy Micro though. In
fact, expect EGM, USA Today, and Play magazine to have slagle style
reviews of the unit. Everyone was down in the mouth about the iPod
shuffle, but it STILL sold better than anything Sony, Rio, and Creative
Labs put out. That said, I am buying a black one and some additional
faceplates. Oh, and a bit of a note: The statue shown at Kotaku here is of the two main characters of Genshinken. Which is an awesome anime and you should watch it.
09.07 - Microcious -
A little more streamlines here and there. The "dotz" disappeared and so
have times on posts! The times are hard to keep track of when you do
not use XML. So, I figure, forget it. Click on the "Sahara" paw prints
and they take you to the top of the page. The smaller I can make this
site, the better! Oh, new cover-art is coming later today.
09.07 - Tokyo Game Saga -
The Tokyo Game Show is up on the 16th of this month in Japan. There
will be a speech from Sataru Iwata -President of Nintendo of Japan- and
that speech will contain early estimates on the Micro's sales in Japan,
and supposedly the Revolution controller/specifications. I
normally get excited about Nintendo consoles, but I am hoping that
Iwata uses part of his speech to explain a few details about
Digitylish. For those wondering, Digitylish is to the Game Boy Micro,
what Lumines is to the PSP: A creative music/colors game with simple
concepts mixed with addictive arcade-style fun. This game and Screw
Breaker (Drill Dozer in the USA) are the wild cards in the Game Boy
Micro schedule. Also, Sega is supposedly going to announce a few new
things: Apparently Super Monkey Ball for Nintendo DS, and a PSP racing title. Should be interesting.
09.05 - Yeah, we cover them too. Just so PSP owners don't feel bad, here is the best game they will get this year aside from Popolocrois. That said, it is nice to see the PSP getting at least two or three nice games. So, might as well steal yourself a PSP. Paying for a Sony product is a silly idea! It will give you something to do while you recharge your Nintendo DS.
09.05 - The Unusual Suspects. Sarah, Steve, and Harold AKA Boots, Steve, and Hbomb.
Have their latest columns up! Sarah discovers THE, Stephen is attacked
by The Great Kat, and Nintendo spys on Hbomb. Read them all HERE!!
09.05 - September-o-Vision! Well,
I updated the look again, but only slightly. Now I compile each week
into one long news post! Sort of. The idea is that I just add another
post above this post to designate new content and then seperate it by a
sexy horizontal line. This way, I can do smaller updates for just new
reviews and articles easier! We are back on the schedule and the idea
is to get a Viral Speak out each week. So, four or so a month. Well,
you'll get the hang of it!
