More NEWS Archives. September 2nd, 1998 Shine, make them wonder what ya got, make them wish that they were not, on the outside looking for it. Well, is there REALLY anything new in the Gameboy world? No. There's just more Pokemon stuff being made. Dmg Ice is getting pretty chunky. I realised that this monster was bigger then I thought when I started the redesign! I've started pruning out pictures, and some sound files, not to mention; I may combine a few sections. It should be interesting to see what develops. I noticed that EAGB also redesigned thier page a little too. That's nice. I have Titanic. I also have Harvest Moon GB!! I'll have a review of this title up soon. Not much new. Some more information on those Warner Bros Titles. Whoopee. That's SOOOO interesting. I'll have to up-date the previews soon. The redesign is inspired by my IGN friends: N64 Underground and Next-Generation. I liked how they organized their pages, and decided on which attributes to try out. I chose Next Generation's Title Page organization as the inspiration of the new "Title" page. The index page is a grand salute to N64 Undergrounds superior craft. GB Mono has been down lately. Pak Paradise returned. :) Some new Gameboy sites appeared. IGN64.com redesigned thier site to look "sharper" with a black background, red letters, white letters, etc. It looks more cluttered then Dmg Ice's old flawed design. Yuck. Well, I must go watch Titanic for the millionth time. Bye! YO! Dr. NO! Try and guess the group I made a reference to in this article's title! September 8th, 1998 62? HAH! Back in my day; you was lucky to hit 3. The pitchers was tougher. Not like them weak pansy pitchers today! I'm back with the rythm and the flow for you. So I'll sit on back and say what I've planned to do. Here's the news today. EAGB and GBOB have shown off screenshots of GB Color Games. After looking at the pictures of Legend of Zelda 4 running on a GBC pallette, and Super Black Bass 4. I have decided that Nintendo has all intentions of making this Gameboy Color as seriously cool as the first incarnation. Gunpei Yokoi would be proud. The GBC specs have changed sooo much since E3. The specs listed in the Preview are old and outdated. Even companies that have recieved GBC kits before are behind the times. Nintendo has announced that the Gameboy Color supports Super Gameboy Pallettes and the X-Y Flipping (Think Mode 7.) is not only confined to sprites. Before I get some e-mails about X-Y Flipping NOT being the same as Mode 7; I must note that Mode 7 was a fancy name for full rotationary X-Y Flipping. In other words 360 degrees. Whereas the Gameboy Color supports limited X-Y Flipping of 90 Degrees. But clever programmers can trick the human eye to make the 90 degrees look like 360 degrees. How? Easy, flip the tile or sprite then flip the flipped tile or sprite. Continue until it looks like it has traveled a full 360 degrees. It's like moving a card on it's side; then moving it from that position to it's side again. In other words make the computer think that the flipped sprite was never really flipped. Confusing? Yeah. Well, there's some nice colors that the GBC will be available as in Japan. Red, Yellow, Purple, Light Blue, Clear Purple, and Clear. Nifty. I'm starting to worry about some of my Gameboy Breathren on the 'net. If you have a site called "Only N64" would you cover Playstation? NO! You must be completely sold on N64!. That is why I worry about other sites covering the Dreamcast PDA, Neo Geo Pocket, Game.com Pocketpro, the Playstation PDA, etc. As a Gameboy website. Dmg Ice will NEVER cover Dreamcast's PDA, Game Gear, Nomad, The PSX PDA, Game.com Pocketpro, Neo Geo Pocket, Turbo Express or any other portable system. It's like that. You see. We have to keep it real and keep it on Gameboy. Seriously. A Gameboy Site owner MUST be obssessive! The best content comes from people who are CRAZY about what they are talking about. You have to have the love. I just finished a set of ten old articles. They should be up in Area Dmg soon. The remix is almost completely done! I just bought another Gameboy Game. "Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball". I have a review for it already. You see, you just have to have the love. The owners of "Gameboy Outpost" and "Adam's Gameboy Camera Page" contacted me. You should go visit thier sites. The links are in the "Site Wars" editorial. Some sites have this site listed as being huge. Heh. Heh. That would win a fight. First person: "My site has fancy graphics, Java do-dads, and more hits! "Me: "Well, mine is BIGGER than yours." Or maybe I shouldn't discuss it. Peace out, brothers, sisters, and Pokemon! September 12th, 1998 Now for the new fall fashions! Anyone notice that a lot of websites are redesigning lately? It's all part of our evil scheme to make you love our sites more! Dmg Ice has already remixed to show off our new fall fashions. (Pretty ain't we?) GBOB, Gameboy Camer@, Adam's Gameboy Camera Page, and even Toad's Gameboy Headquarters are starting to spruce up thier sites and remix. Why is this? Because change is good. And a site must continually evolve to keep up with change. I'm still not happy with my site's design right now. I want it to be "more flashy" like THQ's site; or GB Monolith. In other news, the creators of GB Monolith have offered to help me out with the Messageboards. :) Dmg Ice and GB MONO may be combining Messageboards. I'm practicing some scripts for newer stuff. I hope to have a "Enchanced" version of Dmg ice up by next year. With an option to choose "Original" or "Extra Crispy". Check out all the above sites and see what's cookin' at those sites! Here's some quick rumours. Ubi-Soft made an old game for the NES called "Mighty Final Fight"; it featured super-deformed Final Fight Characters in a sidescrolling street fighting game. With the current adaption of NES classics to Gameboy titles; a GBC version of this not-so-well known game may be on the drawing board. Square/EA may also have a pocket version of "Ein Hander" in the works. back to normal news. Bill Clinton is in deep "kusu". Why? we all know why. But it could have been avoided. You see, in 1993 Nintendo Power let slip that the Clinton family owned a Super Nintendo and a Gameboy. If Bill Clinton had just sat back and played his Gameboy during the "Gridlock" instead of playing with Monica; he wouldn't be in the mess he's in now. The moral of the story? Gameboy isn't just a great stress reliever; playing it can save your job. That's all folks. See you later. September 14th, 1998 Man, with the echo.. I have some excellent news for everyone! Now, that I'm almost done reviewing most all my games; I'll start writing FAQS and Walkthroughs for them! It's my evil plan. Well, I haven't gotten to see much of the Pokemon TV series; but some friends of mine are taping it. :) If you have a Nintendo Power Subscription; then you may have already recieved a "Pokemon" video tape. If not, check Nintendo's official site for details on obtaining one soon. That's basically it for the News! But, it's all good. GB monolith and I are in the final stages of a shared BBS. I'm dumping the "Rpg/Puzzle BBS" and replacing it with a link called: "Community". "Community" is the shared BBS and is called "Community"; because it focuses on "Communication Unity"; in other words it's a Gameboy BBS where we talk about everything Gameboy related!! Look for it soon! It's going to be awesome! Many thanks go to Jim Lambert, Steve Kiratz, and Ty Hadden. They rule the world. Yeah, it's a slow news day. But, I've been collecting data to finish up that "Pokedex". Once, the game is released in the states; I'll be redoing it to become several little pages with info on each creature. For example, click on Pikachu(25) and a page comes up with Pikachu's number, picture, weight, height, and special information. Sound cool? It will be. It will be... September 15th, 1998 Who's your daddy? I hope you pay attention to Dmg Ice's News. :) because ONCE again, Dmg Ice has said something and it ended up becoming a reality. Here's the jist, back when the Gameboy Color was announced; I said that there might be a Puyo Puyo Game in the works for it. I was right! The game comes out in Japan on November 27th. So, listen to me when I mention a rumour; because I'm usually right. Also look for some "Dragon Ball Z" hype around early next year. Cartoon Network just picked up the cartoon. You will see a Dragon Ball Z game for the Gameboy Color. But that's not all! A company that starts with a "T" and ends with a "Q" may be looking to distribute one of the older games in America for the Gameboy Color. Which one? The Shadowgate style RPG one. Speaking of RPGs, Bomberman has one coming; it's only a little behind it's Sega Saturn breathren. This isn't a Bomberman Wars sequel, it's more on the lines of the Rolan's Curse games. It's a GBC release on December 18th in Japan. Will it make it here? Mostly likely under the Company "Manegi". What would be cooler than Metal Gear Solid on N64? Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge on Gameboy Color. Konami will tell you that no such animal exists; but then again, my source at Konami let slip that they are considering it. They are also considering porting over the two Sony MSX titles that never made it to the states. What's an MSX? It was Sony's answer to Atari, and Nintendo in Japan. You see, Sony tried this market once and they flopped. But, that experience led to the PSX later on. Strange place, this world. One of my co-workers at the commisary where I work told me that she met her Home-Coming date on this website. Is that cool or what? That's awesome, and knowing that this website is helping people makes me happy. :) Peace to John and Crystal. Rumours of me and IGN are false. Honest. Really. No such animal. I mean it. Nada. Zip. We are not affiliated. Yet. Did I say yet? Oh, ignore that. Please. Well, what's in store for Dmg Ice fans across the world? Can you say "Funtography Hut"? Dmg Ice is gaining a new affiliate and staff member! He's a scorpio. Heh. Heh. Heh. GB MONO and I are going to be joined at the hip soon. You'll see some new stuff popping up all over this place during the week. Oh, I'm almost done reviewing my collection of games, and I'll start making FAQs, Walkthroughs, and guides for them. I'm also working on some special surprises for the up-coming Holidays. You're going to be shocked, amazed, and maybe even happy with some of the up-coming goodies. I have some guides just sitting on my hard drive right now! You'll see them soon. I like having something to add every day. Even when I'm lazy. Which isn't very often. By the way, I said that Sailor Moon R and Rival Schools are going to become Gameboy Color games in the near future. You know I'm on to something. Like retro? After releasing the PSX compilation of old ATARI games, Activision is considering making a GB port of the collection in 3 volumes of 10 games. The games are "River Raid", "Pitfall!", "Frostbite", "Dolphin", "Enduro", "Tennis", "Spider Fighter", "Plague Attack", "Boxing", "Barnstorming", "Freeway", "River Raid 2", "Dragster", "Starmaster", "Crackpots", "Atlantis", and more. Sound good? Activision is only considering it right now. Go to www.activision.com and tell them that you want RETRO! Penny Racers in my pocket; and Lego games to take on the road? Umm. 1999. Sorry, that's all I can tell you. One last bit before we go.... Cruisin' the Road. Gameboy, Summer 1999. The game is on. Does anyone remember the old slogan for The Avardancer; when Dmg Ice was an idea and I was a content provider only? It was "Keep the web unusual." And that's what Dmg Ice is going to be doing in the next few months. Over half a year old and STILL going strong. Peace and tubbyhugs. September 18th, 1998 Se hablas "Dmg Ice"? Ich wissen es nicht. Wass is der "Dmg Ice"? Ernst Gamenboy? Wordup it be checkin' down, posse. I must be running out of creative titles for this thing. I just did a coversation in "Spanish, German, and Ebonics". Guess which one is not actually a real language. No prize though. I love busting out another language. Here's some Latin. "Meus opus, meus tellus." Well, down to the business at hand. Dmg Ice has some new stuff and you know that. Check out the Site Map; today was a slow day in the NEWS section of things; but I wanted to write anyways. Watch out for all the different things that will appear. Inform me of errors. Etc. I just want to say Props to Adrock, Eddie Soper, and The Phantom Gamer. They are my staff and they deserve praise. Now, they must go back into thier cages and work on some reviews. :) Well, that's all. Peace. Till next time. Oh, this stuff will soon be in the archives. :) September 21st, 1998 B-People of the world UNITE! Can't get enough of Pokémon? I share your pain! Apperently Nintendo does too and you will be able to purchase some neat-o stuff from "Viz Communications". Oh, read the qoutes. "Follow Ash and Pikachu's journey in the upcoming comic series Pokémon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu. This four-issue limited series is not just an adaptation of the cartoon: The story begins as Ash discovers that something is eating the wiring in his house. When he pulls up the floorboards, he finds his first Pokémon Pikachu. Together they set out, with Ash dreaming of becoming a great Pokémon collector. Look for the first issue from Viz Communications this November." "Plus, the Pokémon animated TV series is now available on home video from Viz Video and Pioneer. The video contains three complete episodes of Pokémon fun and is packed with exciting prizes, including mini-comics, trading cards, and more." "Make sure you're the first to discover each Pokémon comic and video adventure from Viz by checking this page for the latest updates. To get your copy of the video, or to subscribe to Pokémon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu, contact Viz Communications at vizweb@hotmail.com, or write to the following address: Viz Communications, Inc.P.O. Box 77010 San Francisco, CA 94107" This stuff is from "Pokemon.com" Speaking of that place... Nintendo decided that they should have a Pokédex too. BUT, it's not like Dmg Ice's Pokédex. It's different. Here's the deal. There are 50 different Pokémon hidden all over Nintendo's Webpage, Pokemon.com, etc. You must find them and keep them in your Pokédex. Why? Maybe there's prizes? Who knows. Well, I want them ALL! Well, that's all folks! September 25th, 1998 I want to be there when you go insane. Well, I have some actual news. "Rolling Stone" magazine usually has some good well thought out article. USUALLY. They have one right now that is HORRIBLE. It's called "Boys will be boys." and is an attempt to make sense of School Shootings. It's biased. Just look at the title; and it had the most ignorant qoute I had ever read. Some guy said in the magazine that "Video games are like military training for teens." The idea there is to place blame on video games for the shootings as an "idea-creator" or "trainer". That is simply not true; I have played video games since the days of Spectrum, Vectrex, Pong, and I do not go out a shoot people. The only reason people blame video games, songs, television, books, parents, and movies is because they don't want to admit that Johnny shoots people; is because Johnny is stupid. The parents, or society get so out-raged that they don't see the real problem is the kid; media, and parents can contribute to the dementia; but they do not cause it. Well in more tragic news, here's a qoute from Next Generation's On-line site. "Russian Game Programmer Dead Authorities suspect that Vladimir Pokhilko, the former business partner of Tetris inventor Alexey Pajitnov, savagely beat and stabbed his wife and 12-year-old son before killing himself.September 24, 1998. Police found the family dead in their Palo Alto, Calif., home Tuesday. Pokhilko's 38-year-old wife, Elena, and the couple's 12-year-old son, Peter, were still in bed in their pajamas when a friend found the bodies. The Russian programmer apparently beat his wife and son with a hammer, then stabbed them as both slept. Police believe Pokhilko then used a long hunting knife to slit his own throat. Authorities theorize that financial problems may have led to the tragedy. Pokhilko was president of a start-up company called AnimaTek, which grew from a partnership in Moscow with Tetris inventor Alexey Pajitnov. The company, which had its U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, was recently expanding into e-commerce and was looking for $10 million in capital. After their successful partnership on Tetris, Pokhilko and Pajitnov also developed Hatris, and El-Fish, an electronic aquarium program." What does that all mean? It means that there won't be any new games from the guy that helped co-create Tetris. Speaking of Gameboy Puzzle games... it was inevitable. Word from the sources say that the NES game "Wario's Woods" may see itsself resurrected as a Gameboy Color game! The game stars Toad as a hero and Wario as a bad guy. Can you smell the strange rotting zombies? Sure you can! Here's some scary Halloween source information tid-bits. :) Resident Evil may rise again as a GBC game; after being ported to the inferior Game.com; it may make it's way to the Gameboy Color; word on the street says that the original Ghosts and Goblins will be ported to GBC; it will be a straight port of the NES game. Gargoyle's Quest is another Capcom game that may get a GBC game. Mainly "Gargoyle's Quest 3: Firebrand's Legacy". Oh, yeah. A new Castlevania game is supposed to be in preporatory stages at Konami; it's a GBC game; it may be a new game or a remix of one of the older games. Well, that's it for the news. Chow. September 28th, 1998 Yes, we have no Pokémon. Frustrated parents must read this. September 28th is the shipping date for Pokémon. BUT, it may take as many as SIX days to reach some stores. And of course our Military overseas friends won't see it until, October 27th at the latest. It shipped today in limited supply to major outlets. Why a limited supply? Mainly to make it scarce. It may be hard to find in the cities. The next shipment of Pokémon Cartridges will be around the 15th of October. So, if you miss the first run; your going to suffer for a little longer. Trust me on this parents; you will hate Nintendo this year. Why? November 23rd. It's going to be worse then "Tickle Me Elmo". A friend of mine was telling me how she called several stores looking for a copy for her sons; and they either don't have it yet or don't have any left. Toys R' Us recieves it's shipments direct from the manufactures; so they may have it in today. Check around, this is big. And just wait till you get a load of the Beanies. As for ON-LINE Pokémon hunting. Nintendo's game should be on-line by the end of the week. Videos should be available from Viz by the end of October. Expect Ash, Misty, Pikachu, and Charmander at your doorsteps on Halloween! Costumes should be out soon. Also look for Link, Turok, and Zelda. I for one will be dressing as Ash. (Maybe.) I'm going to make a wooden Pokéball, and maybe get a stuffed Pikachu look-alike. Are you dressing up as a Nintendo character for Halloween? Take a picture and send it to Dmg Ice for our Attic! Peace. Philip Wesley October 5th, 1998 Hello Nasty! Where you been? Here's some more Pokémon related news. Pokémon PIkachu. (Yellow Version) is outselling Metal Gear Solid for Playstation at a 2-1 ratio. My goodness. Metal Gear Solid is being touted by Konami as the best Game ever made. This sound thrashing by a Gameboy game should more then prove the viablility of the Gameboy medium. Hail to the King Baby! Oh, for those in the know; before Duke Nuke 'Em 3-d; there was three Duke Nuke 'Em sidescrolling games. They may resurface soon on GBC. Though a Duke Nuke 'Em 3-D port is more likely. Konami seems to be learning that Gameboy can not be stopped; so you can now place bets that they are going to port the first Metal Gear games over to Gameboy. They were considering it before; but now... they'll definately go for it. (It would be stupid not to.) Can't get enough of Dmg Ice? A magazine called Village Voice can't either. I was interviewed about Gameboy Camera and Dmg Ice for an up-coming article in thier bi-weekly paper. Village Voice is read in New York, and Seattle. The New York Branch interviewed me. I'll tell you more about it later. (And NO it has nothing to do with the Village People.) Well, That's all for now! Peace and bye!
