October 2005
QOTW: "Looks like Cierra won that one."
10.24 - Electroplankton Elegey -
To clarify something about Electroplankton, the non-game that can will
be available online from Nintendo, at their New York store, and
selected online retailers ONLY. This is a bit similar to how Nintendo
of Japan sold the Play-Yan at first in Japan, or how Nintendo of
America first sold Pokemon Box as an online/New York store exclusive. I
hope they sell the Micro SD Card Adaptor (Play Yan Micro) in this same
way.
10.21 - Things that are awesome - Thanks to the internet and USA Today, I play Sudoku at least two or three times A DAY.
Thanks to the Game Boy Micro, I play RPGs countless times a day. I wish
I could combine the two. I can, thanks to MASTIFF and Success Corp.
MASTIFF has confirmed that they will be publishing a version of Sudoku
for the Game Boy Advance on February 10, 2006. This is the first in a
series of Sudoku products that MASTIFF will release for video game
systems. The game features hundreds of puzzle problems, a tutorial, and
a puzzle problem creation mode. The game itsself is being developed by
Success Corp. and being published by MASTIFF. I am extremely looking
forward to this. Add it on to the list of extremely tasty products we
are getting this Christmas season, and even in the before E3 season.
The only thing that would make this sweeter is if it came with a
Sudoku-styled grid faceplate for the Game Boy Micro. How about it,
MASTIFF?
10.21 - Late on schedule - A quick recap of some news I forgot to post about.
- McDonalds and Nintendo are working
together to offer free WiFi "Wayport" access at McDonalds resturants.
This is so that Nintendo DS owners can go play online at the resturant,
while damaging their health. May I suggest the Fruit And Walnut Salad,
with bottled water and apple juice? Besides, fries are greasy and make
it harder to press buttons accurately.
- Elecktroplankton + January 9, 2006 release date = Awesome.
- Rumble Pak + Metroid Prime Pinball
+ Mario & Luigi 2: Partners in Time + Metroid Prime Hunters = All
rumbles and shakes in your pocket.
- Final Fantasy 1 & 2 + Game Boy Micro = Philip not updating enough.
- Rumors = Mario Paint in three
versions for Nintendo DS. One version for art, one for animation, one
for music. Also on the rumor mill is Samurai Spirits for the Game Boy
Advance from SNK Playmore.
Aside from those few equations, here are the latest hardware sales data from Media Create for October 10 to 16, 2006
- DS 44,262
- PSP 29,162
- PS2 23,659
- GBM 20,026
- GBASP 9,707
- GC 1,666
- GBA 431
- Xbox 132
As usual,
the Nintendo DS is still going strong. The PSP lagging behind as usual,
and the PS2 finally breaking past the Game Boy Micro. The Game Boy, as
a whole, sold 30,164 units. So, the portable charts looked like this in
truth.
- Nintendo DS 44,262
- Game Boy 30,164
- Sony PSP 29,162
Not bad! I
recently picked up a Game Boy Micro and I carry with me everywhere. It
has not left my side. I picked up Final Fantasy I & II again, after
neglecting the game for so very long, to prepare myself for the
December 12th unleashing of Final Fantasy VI. I wish that special
edition faceplate Japan is getting was coming over here. Later everyone!
10.18 - Densetsu No SSU/AR/FNR - SquareEnix has updated their website
for the upcoming Final Fantasy IV release in Japan. The game is getting
a few interesting changes that will also be reflected in the USA
version (Out December 12th!) as well. Those changes are:
- Character profiles in important dialogue. (Like modern games such as Riviera do!)
- An extra dungeon known as Densetsu no EX Dungeon" in Japanese.
- NEW enemies.
- NEW bosses.
- The
ability to change party members in the final area. (If that did not
cause you to cheer, then you have not played Final Fantasy IV.)
- Small graphic detail increases.
- A new and improved translation (For the US version.)
All of
these new enhancements were not featured in the Wonder Swan, Play
Station, or Super Nintendo versions of the game. But what could be up
with the weird title of this entry? That can be explained by THREE new
articles I am putting up today. All of which deal, in some way, with
recent Nintendo DS games.
- Adamangamingum Rage - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
- For No Reason - Lunar: Dragon Song
- Sarah Speaks Up - Trauma Center: Under The Knife
And there you have it! Please enjoy the new articles!
10.12 - In case you were sleeping
- Trauma Center, and Castlevania were released recently and you should
have bought either or both of those games. They are goodness. If you
still do not own a DS (WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!), consider buying the
Hot Rod Red Nintendo DS bundle that comes out on November 28th, in time
for Christmas. It comes with Mario Kart, a special wrist strap, and
decals. It is sweet. Speaking of sweet: Here is a new editorial FOR NO REASON.
10.07 - S.S.U? - You are welcome. This time, Sarah rambles a bit about Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Consume!

QOTW: "Wow. It's crack with numbers."
QOTW: "It has a swing to it if you push hard enough."10.05 - Final Fantasygasm - Square
Enix has confirmed, via a special trailer, that Final Fantasy 3 for the
Nintendo DS will have 3D graphics. They also confirmed final Fantasy V,
and VI for the Game Boy Advance with slightly updated graphics. Final
Fantasy IV hits the USA on December 12th. Final Fantasy V and VI will
be here in 2006. I must not be the only one who finds it ironic
that Nintendo had a Nintendo DS conference that causes joygasms, then
announces a ton of new games during Microsoft's X05 event?
10.05 - Puppy Times -
O~3 Entertainment has announced a special treat for those poor kids who
can not afford a Nintendog; but want a puppy of their own. Pocket Dogs,
for the Game Boy Advance takes "The Dog" license and presents a fun
diversion with little mini-games, and just quirky visuals. Should be an
interesting title to pick up for the small child in your life that
would neglect a Nintendog; but still wants to play with cute puppies.
The game includes about eight breeds of dogs in the Hana Deka Club style. This makes me wonder if we will get Pocket Cats in the future as well. Yes, I believe my paw print is ironic in this article.
10.05 - Solutions -
Nintendo of Japan had a Nintendo DS conference today in Japan. They
announced the following two items and outlined their Wi-Fi connection
product. Nintendo announced Brain Training 2 and English trainer for
the Nintendo DS "Touch Generations" line of products. Nintendo also
announced how their new connection service works.
- All Nintendo DS units have a distinct id number generated by the system itsself when you play your first online game.
- You can give that id to people in your immediately vicinity like a business card while inside a game.
- You can give people this id number through instant message programs or e-mail.
- You can sign up your number for a match finding service like Game Spy. (In fact, it is Game Spy in the USA.)
- Nintendo
will be selling an USB wireless router specifically tuned to allow
people without access to Wi-Fi hotspots or wireless modems a chance to
play online.
- Online play is free.
- The
Nintendo Wi-Fi connection slogan is: "easy. safe. $0." or "easy. safe.
free." for those of you in Rio Linda. (You have no idea how long I have
waited to use that joke.
Famitsu
announced a few new titles to note for the Nintendo DS. I have seen the
full list, but I weeded out games already discussed like Children of
Mana. That is a new Gyakuten Saiban game on that list.
- Gyakuten Saiban 4 (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2! A NEW GAME!)
- Tales of.. DS
- Daikoukaijidai (Uncharted Waters) DS
- Magical Vacation: When the five Stars Line Up
- ASH
- Wishroom
- Kaitou (Mystery Thief) Wario
- Custom Robo DS
- Tingle RPG (Hmm?)
- Detect Hacker
- Legend of Starfi 4
- Puzzloop DS
- Mario Basket 3 vs 3
- Crossword (Simple series?)
- Jigsaw Puzzle (Simple series?)
- Sudoku (Terribly addictive number puzzle game. The new Picross in my mind. Give me Mario's Sudoku, Nintendo! Give! GIVE!)
- Bomberman Story
- SD Gundam game
- Stylebook series (from Bandai apparently.)
- Ocha Inu no Heya (Tea Dog Room?!)
- San-X Dreamland (Afrodoggy!)
- Dangerous Jiisan (A game about a school principal saving the world from aliens via mini games. Yay for weird games!)
- Nobunaga's Ambition DS
- Dracula (A new Castlevania game?!)
- Vs. Puzzle Papi Inu Vector Wan (Vs. Puzzle Father Dog Vector Wan?!)
Out of
these titles, you have a healthy assortment of titles. Sudoku is a
personal favorite right now. I hope that Nintendo brings me a Picross
game for the Nintendo DS someday. Click HERE
to try out Sudoku. It is tricky at first, but if you love puzzles: It
will addict you. I have already completed about 30 different puzzles
since I decided to try it during research for this article. I got my
time down to about six minutes on Easy. I will never touch Evil.
10.03 - A cut above the rest. - Trauma Center: Under The Knife ships out to stores this week! Should you buy it? Check out our review of it right here.
10.03 - Awful traditions.. - So, I broke out that hand gif again. What can I say? It is October and the hand must go up!
10.03 - Red Menace To Invade The USA
- The Nintendo DS that touches you is apparently on its way to the USA
this Christmas season. Yes, the October Red colored Nintendo DS will
arrive as a bundle with Mario Kart DS, for the people. Right now, this
is unconfirmed; but if it holds true: Incipit vita nova!
10.03 - Newsity Archived! -
Simple as that, a bit of news gets archived into our vast archive of
newsness! So, if you want to catch up on what happened last month, here
is a bit of a list of the major events from last month.
- A few Nintendogs invaded our server and left behind a funny smell and a map.
- The Game Boy Micro sold over 170,000 units on the first week of availability in Japan.
- Nintendo quietly updated the GBA SP screen to make the SP the BEST HANDHELD EVER CREATED.
- A
white PSP was released in Japan and it sold almost as well as the
Nintendo DS. By almost, we mean that it still got stomped, but not by
as much as usual.
- SNK
announced Metal Slug 2, 3, and X for GBA SP and finished this combo
with Card Fighters Clash for the Nintendo DS. Then threw their bodies
backwards in a creepy immitation of Iori's winning pose. They even did
the laughter. You would have probably liked to have been there.
- RPGS
are almost as good as sex, from what we have heard about sex anyways.
The Nintendo DS and Game Boy were delivered a lot last month. Xenosaga
1 & 2, Y's Strategy, Final Fantasy IV, Children of Mana, and
Contact were all announced. Lost in Blue, and Lunar were both released.
Well, that is a brief look at what happened last month. Click here to go see the news archives for that month.
