October 31st - November 1st, 2004 - Halloween is a time for touching people!
OH NO! DOOM! AN UPDATE! THE WORLD IS ENDING! PANIC YOU FOOLS! Well, Sony finally has yielded their hand on the PSP. On Decemeber 12th in Japan, 19,800 YEN (Almost 200 USD) nets you the system with an AC Adaptor, and a Battery Pack. Battery life is 4 to 6 hours in gameplay, 4 to 5 in movies. IF You have the volume at half with headphones, wireless LAN off, and with the screen at max contrast. You will have to fork over about 2,900 YEN (About $25) for a Memory Stick DUO. (Smallest size.) They have also announced that the system is now Region Free. Much better, Sony. It's nice to see they're going to actually attempt to be competition. Although, they may be too late as Nintendo has already started their media blitz in the USA. The new ads are aimed at the 18+ demographic. They feature two blue squares and a seductive voice encouraging you to touch the screen. So, if these succeed, Nintendo may have the exact demographic that would buy the PSP all wrapped up when the PSP launches in the USA. 4 to 6 hour battery life isn't so bad. Seems like we may have a fight on our hands yet. Although, the new Sony price point means they will not break even or see a profit on the PSP for three to four years. I think they intend for you to buy the system twice. Once a bit after it comes out, and again about a year or two later when it starts READ DRIVE ERRORING, or burns a hole in your skin. I guess you can say I am reasonably skeptical about Sony products. Just recently though, Sony's president admitted that graphically vibrant games will drain the battery even quicker than the estimated times. They want to fix that though. So, at least they want to fix their problems. So, do you want some candy? Or the touching? Come on! TOUCHING! I will do it! Oh. Candy. Darn. Well, here is some tasty brain candy for you touchable people!

October 20th, 2004 - Touching of all the regions.
Nintendo has announced what gamers have already assumed for monthes: The Nintendo DS is region-free. So, feel free to import Japanese games and vice versa. This region free announcement adds one more reason to purchase the Nintendo DS and NOT PURCHASE the Sony PSP. The Sony PSP is region coded to prevent you from importing games. Which is just WRONG for the handheld market.

Oh, poor Bungie is claiming emotional distress over the Halo 2 leak. I stopped caring about Bungie's feelings after they stopped caring about the Macintosh. Oh, boo hoo. Piracy happens to everyone. Especially in the handheld world. You just need to go present legal action to the offenders, kick their asses, and go on with your lives. Whining about it makes me think even less of you than I do now. However, I agree that it truly sucks that people are trying to leak details about the plot of Halo 2. Especially since Bungie went out of their way to create a one player game that is actually worth something for Halo 2, and some people seem intent on giving away the ending. I am sure M. Night Shyamalan is laughing at you right now, because I know that I am. Seriously, hyping up the Halo franchise to be all that and cheese is just ASKING for this type of event.

The buzz around Nintendo currently is that the US version of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap will have a few hooks for when you put it into a Nintendo DS. What those hooks will be has yet to be determined. On that note, placing a Pokemon cartridge like Ruby/Sapphire/Leaf/Fire/Emerald into your Nintendo DS while playing Pokemon Dash allows you to play race courses shaped like your pokemon. If you have ever had the urge to have your friends ride your Wailord, now you can do so.

Unless you prefer to kill your friends with bombs. Bomberman for the Nintendo DS allows up to 8 players to practice the fine art of detonation at one time, wirelessly. BOMB YOUR FRIENDS! Or Hbomb them! By that, I mean that Snowflake Studios has had a rather nifty revision to it. Go see it by clicking on it's button to your left!! Comment? -PAW-

October 12th, 2004 - The overwhelming?
Not really new newsity, but the conference Nintendo had on the 7th revealed a couple new game titles. While it affirmed Super Mario 64 DS, it unveiled SquareEnix's Final Fantasy III (The Japanese game that never made it here), and Advance Wars DS. Some of the other games were Puppy Times (Formerly Nintendogs: A Puppy Simulator.), Another (Think Anime + Myst + Nintendo = Another), Pokemon Dash (Pokemon Foot Races), Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (Of course!), Yoshi's Touch & Go (Formerly that Balloon Demo from E3), and Jam with the Band. (Formerly Pocket Music. Drool.) The conference also revealed that the Nintendo DS can download data from theatres and special boothes for game demo purposes as well as detect GBA games for unlocking and adding content to DS & GBA games. No word on whether GBA games are full screen (and on which screen) when on the Nintendo DS. Also no word on if GBC games that detect the GBA and have GBA enhancements (Shantae/Oracle Series) do anything in the Nintendo DS. SquareEnix also mentioned that they intend to port Mobile Phone content to the Nintendo DS in enhanced form. Current Mobile Phone games by SquareEnix are Dragon Warrior 1 (enhanced), Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis, Kingdom Hearts: Mobile, and a few others. Would I buy an updated version of Dragon Warrior 1 for the Nintendo DS? Do fish swim? Are slimes filled with acidic chemicals? Anyhow, not really new. Once this slight cold clears up a little more: Hey! News! Comment? -PAW-

October 7th, 2004 - Sony gets attacked by the Hair Creature.
There really are no cheap shots I can take here that are not too obvious. PJ McNealy of American Technology Research and Piper Jaffray & Co. released a report recently that stated a few BAD THINGS about Sony's plan to launch the PSP in December.

Analysts have analyzed Sony's progress at Tokyo Game Show and noted that nearly every title was at 45% or lower in progress. Sony insists on a December launch for their PSP. The analysts concluded that they expect a delay on the PSP that lands it as far away as JUNE 2005 in the United States and sometime before E3 in Japan. WOW. Just, WOW. Also, there were more issues about the PSP that analysts say may lead to a massive delay. Apparently, the system is running HOT. All those moving parts tend to make the system get warmer than it should. Another analyst, Piper Jaffray & Co., stated the above thermal problem as well as a battery issue of battery life being 90 MINUTES. The 100+ year old, Minnesota based company Piper Jaffray & Co. even predicted a push all the way into NOVEMBER 2005 for the PSP in the United States.

And everyone must learn of this! Comment? -PAW-

October 5th, 2004 - Content have I loved?
Yet graceful clicks of keys.
Typed impressions on a screen.
Delayed for some more days.
Then the readers hurt me.

Not a real Tanka, but appropriate for this early morning update! The revered and feared Hiroshi Yamagauchi -former fuedal lord of Nintendo- has announced that he will propose the creation of an animated film(s) based on the "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu" at an upcoming Nintendo counsel meeting. He is proposing a Nintendo made anime based on a series of 100 poems by 100 different poets. If it is anything like Spring & Chaos, I want to see it come to frutation. Want to read those 100 poems by 100 different poets? I thought you might, so I hunted down a rather good interpretation of them. A lot of them speak of nature, but even  more of them suggest tragic sadness and longing. They present images and scenarios in such great detail that I know you will all enjoy them. My readers are the smartest people to ever pick up a Game Boy. Some of these poems may even have double meanings in regard to Nintendo! An example:

21 - Sosei Hoshi
Just because she said,
"In a moment I will come,"
I've awaited her
E'en until the moon of dawn,
In the long month, hath appeared.

That is most likely about waiting for the Nintendo DS. November 21st is so far away, yet so close. Please read the other 99 poems too! Hell, make up a few and send them to the Viral Speak I am working on! Here is yet another link for information on these poems. Everyone should read them just once. As for other news? GameStop updated some artwork and changed the list name for Super Mario 64 DS. It seems to be legitimate, although the price is extremely tenative. Also legitimate is the news that Nintendo of Japan has doubled their earnings projection for the first quarter of 2005. They expect to make 48 Billion Yen. Nice for them. Would be nicer if they sent me some of that.Comment? -PAW- Top?

October 3rd, 2004 - Slight revisions.
Hey look, different layout. Well, slightly. It's enhanced a little. The blue tabs are to affiliated partners in crime.  I call the pretty things on the left hand side: "Bloxes." Are they not neat?" Anyhow, something like that. Later! Comment? -PAW- Top?

October 2nd, 2004 - People got to be free.
It is October already, and I do not remember where September went. If anyone wants to tell me, I would love to know. Put up our October Decorations and changed the layout a little. It is October already and Nintendo has announced a few extremely important days for their loyal DS watchers. Here is the skinny on these phat information days.

October 5th - Nintendo is supposedly going to get the launch details for the US DS launch to us on this day.
October 7th - Nintendo of Japan discusses launch details for the Japanese DS Launch.
October 11th - Nintendo unveils their Christmas strategy.
October 12th - Same as above. (It's a two day event with several key titles such as Wario Ware 2, Yoshi's Universal Gravitation, et cetra available for play testing.

That seems to be some nice and tasty information. Oh! Nintendo has sold over 1 million copies of Pokemon Red Fire and Green Leaf in the United State alone. That means two things: One, despite what critics say, Pokemon is still popular. Secondly, there are now at least 1 million Wireless Adaptors running around in the United States. That is definately good news for those who crave opponents. Red Fire and Green Leaf have just launched into Europe, where -thanks to a price cut to 69.99UKP- the Game Boy Advance SP has risen in sales by 70% in the last month. That seems to pave the way for some extremely good sales of Red and Green. (Which ALSO comes with the Wireless Adaptor.)

On the flip side of the news, Sony announced final specs for their PSP and they announced that battery life on the unit depends on the developers. So, if you create an awesome game with kick-ass graphics and loads of gameplay for the PSP, chances are you will sap the battery in under two hours. Of course, to combat this, Sony promises to reject all your hard work if your game is too awesome. Great incentive to work on a PSP game isn't it? Hey, I wonder if PSP developers will past a "Global Test" too? I could see it now:

PSP Developer: "I want to create a Nights sequel for the PSP. Currently it eats the battery away for the PSP in about 3 hours. Is it okay?"

Sony: "Normally, we'd reject your game for eating the battery life in less than four hours; but let's ask Kofi Annon!"

Kofi Annon: "The Taliban takes objection to the main characters hat, and since I spent the last few days sleeping next to Osama Bin Laden, the UN will have to reject your game; because he gives me sex."

Wow, the future looks bright for PSP game players! Almost as bright as the price tag that GameSpot announced for the PSP: $349.99. I sure am jealous that I decided to get a Nintendo DS for $149.99 instead! Wait, no I'm not. Comment? -PAW- Top?
