June 28-29/2005 - Revisionist Theories!
QOTU: "Chevelle is really Hanson in DISQUISE."
How goes the industry?
Well, NeoSpong announced World Reborn: Unification for the Nintendo DS.
It is an online shooter that is worth checking out. The latest issue of
Nintendo Power had some more interesting information in the form of a
list of ONLINE DS games. There's apparently another Bomberman coming
out for the DS this year that is ONLINE. That is sexy. But the majority
of this article is to inform you that I did a few changes around here.
For one, I combined the "Import" section of our main reviews section
back into the rest of the pages. So, if you are looking for a review of
an import GB game like Puchi Carat, it will be under with other games
that start with the letter P instead of a disorganized "imports"
section. Also, general updating in the information section of that
area. I also added three reviews to the Reviews section: Wario Ware
Twisted!, Archer MacLean's 3D Pool, and Lumins (PSP). I will add more
later on. Click HERE to get
to those reviews. I also did some further editing to our Game Boy Micro
coverage in the E32005/A-Kon 16 coverage. Is it hot? Why yes it is! I
would say that what we have here
is the DEFINITIVE page for the Nintendo Game Boy Micro. So, hop to it!
New reviews, articles, and a Viral Speak by the end of the week, people! - - |

June 21 - 24/2005 - Annoying Things, Romance, and more!
QOTU: "I intend to spoil it."
Hey! A new article is up!
It's in the A-Kon/E3 2005 section and you better read it for it is GOOD
for you. That said, the latest Media Create data for June 13 through 19
is in and it looks like the Nintendo DS has broken 1,000,000 in sales
in Japan in 2005! DS Brain Training was #2 in sales this week, up
from #4 last week.
The Nintendo DS was the number one selling unit again. Here are the raw numbers.
DS 31,376
PS2 25,526
PSP 20,416
GBASP 9,727
GC 2,183
GBA 475
Xbox 150
Add that total in with the previous weeks total of units for the entire year: 972,202
Total sales of DS units in Japan for 2005 alone: 1,003,578
Total sales of the DS in Japan to date: 2,495,909
Oh, a controversy over sales of UMDs has erupted. Well, Sony
said they shipped over 110,000 units of movies like House of Flying
Daggers and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, they also claim to have sold
200,000 units of those movies. The math does not add up. What happened
was that Reuters said that over 100,000 UMD movies have been sold
worldwide. Depending on which "Sony Expert" you ask, over a half
million to 2 million UMD movies have shipped worldwide. I think Sony
just refuses to own up to the real sales data and continues to cling to
overly optomistic shipped data instead of sell-through data. Judging by
the amount of UMD movies still on retailer shelves, I think that the
Reuter's number means that Sony has sold over 100,000 units and a
little under 200,000 units worldwide. So, do I think that the UMD is a
failure? Eh. It's a cheap way to resell movies that stopped making
money. Kind of liking releasing VHS these days. It's for people who
have the wrong technology to fully enjoy a movie. It gives people that
air of "difference" which is why people pay more for vinyl: They enjoy
getting ripped off it if makes them feel better about their lives.
Technically, shipping an item means it has been sold to the store. The
store buys it and sells it. When the store sells it, this is a
sell-through. Sell-throughs matter, because you can ship a million
units and have 98% of the returned to you for not selling through. See
how that works? Interesting stuff.
The schedule is slowly working its way back to normality.
After a quick review of our other e-mails, I discovered a large amount
of reviews that were not on the site yet. Those will be up on Thursday.
But first, quick news.
1. The Annoying Thing from the commercial in Europe is getting its own
game. I got a long two page press release on it in my inbox, apparently
there will be console racing games for it and a platformer for it. The
creature looks like it was left out of Oddworld. That is the game the
developers of the GBA game should strive to be like.
2. Romance of the Three Kingdoms III is coming to the Nintendo DS
with new content, touch controls, etc. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is
an epic game series and there are two of them on the old Game Boy.
Should be good for those of us who enjoy strategy games.
And that's it.

(E3/A-Kon) June 17/2005 - They moved! I swear!
QOTU: "Just another reason why we aren't on IGN anymore, right?"
Hey! New articles are coming, in fact: Hbomb has a new article up
right now as we work our way back into something resembling a schedule!
A few bits of news: Nintendogs in the US on August 22nd with three new
breeds of puppy goodness. Yeah, a Husky, a Golden Retriever, and a
Boxer. There will be three versions, so just buy them all. Oh! A treat
for PSP owners! One of the titles that Sony will be launching with the
PSP in Europe is the movie: "You Got Served." If you waste your money
on that unit, that's all you have to know. Oh! The new sales data for
Japan is out. This sales data is from MediaCreate and covers June 6 to
June 12, 2005. The software sales have Brain Training for the DS at #4.
Nintendogs has taken 9, 11, and 12 respectively. The #5 game is a GBA
RPG game with a long Japanese name. Here are the console charts
everyone wants!
DS 32,765
PS2 27,741
PSP 21,476
GBASP 8,522
GC 2,558
GBA 623
Xbox 131
There you go! Another week of DS dominance as sales fell for all the systems.
Year to date sales!
NDS = 972,202
PSP = 936,892
The Nintendo DS is beating it by 35,310 units.
If sales rise or continue to be steady next week, the DS will bust the
one million mark for 2005. Good thing Advance Wars 3 is coming soon!
That game got a 34 out of 40 in the recent Famitsu. That means it got
Gold. Don't worry PSP owners! The system is getting Coded Arms and
Panic Bomber. Coded Arms is a tedious FPS game that everyone seems to
want to love despite the boringness of it. Panic Bomber is a port of
the Virtual Boy title, but this time in color on a different failing
system. Yes, I went there. But what can I say? Call it as it is..

(E3/A-Kon) June 8/2005 - Twirped.
QOTU: "Now you can rub away the Tamagotchi mess."
It's time to list a few recently announced good things.
The Nintendo DS is getting a Tamagotchi game in September as well as a
Power Pro Baseball game and a Winning Eleven game. Nice. A red DS will
debut in August for the debut of that Jump! Smash game. You know, the
Smash Bros like game that features characters from Naruto, One Piece,
Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and others. Neat. Oh! I finally uploaded two
more articles for our A-Kon coverage! This brings the amount of A-Kon
articles up to four. There will be some more E3 articles up soon as
well as the last bits of Don't Panic. Then I will start on a special
project that you will all love: Another Misty Story 2: Feeling Misty.
Trust me, you'll like it. Oh, Lunar DS has been named Lunar: Dragon
Song in the USA. Don't worry, this game is a prequel and not a port.
Rejoice! Click on the blue windfish whale image to the right of this article to go to where the articles are.

(E3/A-Kon) June 6/2005 - Back in the Saddle.
QOTU: "I PRETZEL WORLD."
I am back from A-Kon.
I was stuck without internet connection for the longest time at the
convention. Oddly, I was able to dodge falling glass things, snatch out
over 150+ pictures of people and things with Squishy, and write some
articles. When I came back to the internet, I discovered that NOTHING
HAS HAPPENED AT ALL. Well, the sales data from Media Create came in for
the week of May 23 to 29, 2005. Apparently, puppies were put aside for
GIANT ROBOTS, and brain tricks. What you say? Know this what you
desire? SD Gundam G Generation DS came out, sold 53,484 titles, and DS
Brain Training did well too, selling 47,861 units. Learn you shall. The
DS was once again the top selling system on the charts and has now
defeated the PSP in terms of 2005 sales in Japan. If continue, this
does. An absolute b*tch of Sony has Nintendo made. No reason for that
Yoda speak.
Kyle Herbert! You are no Jedi.
Articles for A-Kon will be up soon.
For now, enjoy 20 megs or so of pure Squishy A-Kon picture MAYHEM.
Cosplay in all its glory! Yes. Glory. Love pictures. Oh, some of these
pictures are so incredibly awesome that you will weep at their
awesomeness. Others may make you whimper slightly.

(E3/A-Kon) May 27 - June 5/2005 - Playing for keeps.
QOTU: "This whole blink out of existence thing. Do that often?"
Added early A-KON stuff to the coverage! YAY!
Alien Hominid is apparently set to debut on the GBA soon in Europe. Those Europeans got Comix Zone on the GBA and now THIS? Gah. I say we invade. To quote my favorite Satoru Iwata saying: "End I lave it!"
Rejoice! The latest chapter of DON'T PANIC is up!
As well as some slight re-edits of the previous chapters for clarity
and the adding of content. For those counting, only three more chapters
remain in this series. They are as follows:
- Cosplay, Self-Respect, and Everything We Shouldn't Be Seeing. (AKA
Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Minors, But Were Forced To
Look At Anyways. AKA For God's Sake: Put On Some Real Clothes.)
- So Long And Thanks For All The Free Crap.
- Mostly Charmless. (AKA Well, That Pretty Much Wraps It Up For That.)
Each of those aforementioned articles goes into subjects like
cosplay/furries, swag collecting tips, and general information about
general things. Yes, I assure you that I will not be kind. I also
assure you that you will learn things you did not know before hand!
More articles and lots of game impressions will be up soon. We may take
forever, but we have the best and most honest coverage of the
conventions. After all, we are not advertising ourselves or our site
inside any of these games. We are going to give you honest, if not a
little mean, assessments. We love Nintendo, but we are not above
constructive criticism. Other companies though.. are fair game. Rawr.
That said, The Sony article
has been expanded. Movie and Audio files for E3 2005 have been removed.
If you missed them, please feel free to e-mail us for them. They will
be available on our first "bootleg" disc. Please stay tuned for details
on that at a future time.
Oh, the Nintendo DS was
the second best selling system the week after Golden Week. For one
week, PS2 was beating it. Then it rose again to #1 from May 15 to 22,
2005. Nintendo released their "Brain Training" educational title just
in time for testing periods and it was the #2 selling title in that
week selling 42,509 copies. That is insane. It is like someone
releasing a Cliff's Notes software game. I can see why people
would buy the studying aid; but I thought it would not sell as well as
it did. Nintendogs is still selling well. The current console sales for
that week look like this.
- Nintendo DS = 29,808
- Play Station 2 = 27,370
- Sony PSP = 24,122
- Game Boy Advance SP = 7,592
- Nintendo Game Cube = 2,403
- Game Boy Advance = 282
- Microsoft Xbox = 248
Nice to see the Nintendo DS still selling great!
Should be interesting to see how the Media Create stats look once the
Xbox 360 and Game Boy Micro are released. Do you think the Xbox 360
will take the Game Boy Advance stranglehold on sixth place? Will the
Game Boy Micro rocket to the top in sales? This Fall shall be
interesting. Thank you. Gimme?
