07/22/2005 - Like Hot Coffee for Water. QOTU: "Dude. Your Familiar's a babe." I was working on a Viral Speak and I came across a Viral Speak about why I had not posted a review I recieved that was a review of the Sony PSP for S.A.R.S. I suddenly rushed over to my various inboxes and realized that I DID have a review of the Sony PSP. I then remembered why I had not posted it: I wanted to post it when my review of the Nintendo DS was done, then I found a completed review for the Nintendo DS in my inbox as well. Surprised, I compiled a bunch of reviews I had not posted up and put them up in masse. So, tonight is about reviews. EIGHT new reviews to be exact. I left Mikaa's review of Lumines up on the list, because he submitted a sweet review of Meteos and the two games are by the same company. So, check it out! We have reviews of both of the hot next generation handhelds as well a reviews of their hottest puzzle games. I also completed a review of the GBA Movie Player. So, in lieu of real news, lots of reviews! Click HERE and start feasting.- -
07/21/2005 - Shake your Stylii at it! QOTU: "Interestingly furry!" The lack of news concerning anything of real importance is stunning. Apparently some kid took pictures of an Xbox 360 test unit, and there has been some controversy over some stupid game with a mini-game that can be found via an Action Replay. I guess it all translates to free hype and boosted sales? *sips some hot coffee* If you can not make GOOD games, at least make controversial games, right RockStar? Speaking of controversial games, a homebrew company has made an unofficial conversion of an old Amiga strip poker game for the Nintendo DS. It has full touch screen support, and even voice recognition features. This was revealed by the scantily named FoxySofts company. They made an official conversion of Out of This World (Another World) a few monthes back. You need to have some interesting equipment that we do not support to play it, but news is news. Click here for the Nintendo DS poker game and here for Out Of This World. Apparently the NDS game works with PassMe and WifiMe. What those actually are is a taboo subject here. This is news because it means that homebrewers are finally making real headway with the Nintendo DS. This means that we could end up with more indie games like the sweet indie games that the GBC/GBC/GBA enjoyed. And to top off our day of controversy, I proudly present a brand new column for the Ice Block! The column is entitled: "For No Reason" and is written by Stephen Kelley, who gave us some excellent A-Kon coverage this last year. It sparks on controversial subjects like anime, Nintendo DS, British television, and NINJAS. Go read it!- -
07/14/2005 - And I sing to boot!
QOTU: "Screw Blurring Squids!" Nintendo of Japan has announced that over 200,000 preorders have been filed for their upcoming Nintendo DS game "Jump Superstars." Jump Superstars is Nintendo's fighting game with Shonen Jump characters and is every fighting anime fans wet dream. If you have ever wanted to bash Goku from Dragon Ball Z into the ground with Kenshin from Ruroni Kenshin, or battle Luffy (One Piece) against Naruto (Naruto) against Yugi (Yu Gi Oh) against that brat from Prince of Tennis. Here is your game. In other words, from Bleach to Dr. Slump, Jump Superstars is to the anime world what Super Smash Bros is to Nintendo games. I heard that Satoru Iwata will be sending a nice boquet of flowers to Ken Kutaragi this August when the game comes out in Japan. The card with the flowers will say something like this: "Hope you enjoy these flowers, they are bright, colorful, and smell nice. I hope you can enjoy them in good health, for they are the opposite of sales for the PSP in Japan this week." That said, I really think this game will never come out here, so start your importing! While I do not condone the activity, an early beta of a Neo Geo Pocket emulator is out for the Nintendo DS. The emu is based off of NeoPop and that is all I will tell you about that. Did you notice the top image changed? CLICK IT QUICKLY! There will be a text file and a zip file. Read the text file, then right click the zip file and download it! Oh! Next month, there will be some interesting bonuses for you that have to do with the GAME BOY MOVIE PLAYER that you can purchase at Lik Sang for $24.95 and I will say no more on that subject. Viral Speak Friday!!- -
07/13/2005 - Reaping What We Sow.
QOTU: "Ein's a pervert!" One thing I hate more than anything is the slowdown in news that comes after E3 for the handheld scene. Luckily there are a few bits of news to report on. First off, CoroCoro Comics, the magazine that debuted the Pokemon Manga back in early 1997 has announced new details on Pokemon Pearl/Diamond. They also mentioned a new "Pokemon Ranger" animated program. Should be interesting to see how that goes. For those wondering, Pokemon Pearl/Diamond feature these neat new things!
No other details or even screenshots were shown of the game. Which
is unfortunate. Oh, the latest Media Create Sales data has been out for
a little while, here you go. The usual format: Name of system followed
by units sold.
June 27 - July 3, 2005
The number one game is some PS2 game, so
I do not care to translate it. The number two game is in sales is Brain
Training Volume 2. Apparently there are a lot of DS owners who love the
idea of brain exercises and radiant thinking. Speaking of radiant
thinking, one of the effects of radiant thinking is improving reading
speed. Thus, Squishy and I will be getting the sixth Harry Potter book
this weekend. For those who completely dig our Kirby cover this month,
it was a collaboration between myself and Don. If you really enjoy it,
send us some Viral Speak about it and we may make it into a wallpaper
for you to download. The rest of the cover mentions content this month.
That content will be some more of Don't Panic, a preview of Misty Story
2: Promise of the Night, and a new Squishy video. The new Squishy video
will be up on Thursday.
Oh, that image in the upper right corner is mysterious. I wonder what it is! When I debut special content on the website or update a section, it will change to match whatever I am highlighting. It is called the "Omake" block. However, that is not the Japanese words it has say. Yes, I am a terrible person and you will like this website. Later on, clicking on that block will take you to highlighted content. For now, enjoy! When it changes, be sure to click it!- -
July 06/2005 - DiSengenious.
QOTU: "Because that's not crazy at all. The internet said it wasn't!" News! Okay, the first order of business is to catch up from the days off we took to celebrate independance from sobriety. Here are three new things for you! New Viral Speak! New SSU! New belated E3 Recap article! Oh, The last sales data to come out of Media Create for Japan looked like this: June 20 - 26, 2005
The #1 game was Mushiking,
a beetle collect and battle game from Konami for the GBA. Then Brain
Training DS was #2. Interesting stuff. I wonder what will happen when
the Game Boy Micro takes the stage? Anyhow, there you go people! See
you later!-
