July 1 to 14th, 2004 -
July 28th, 2004 - The more things change. For one thing, don't ever expect me to update on time; but do expect my updates to be information packed, and sexy. Speaking of sexy, I have quite a few SEXY ANNOUNCEMENTS for everyone. First and foremost, long time staff member Infinity Yak is getting MARRIED. When he does, hopefully, he'll let us put out a special article on it. Because that news is pretty damn cool, you know? He announced it to me via Viral Speak; but since I'm not done with the next Viral Speak yet, here's the Viral Speak entry. I'll include it with the next Viral Speak batch as well. Sweet, huh? Yo Phil and other DMG faithfuls!
Well, after a year and a half of dating, Esther (my girlfriend) and I have decided that our relationship in its current form has run its course- and it's time for an upgrade... So, it's with great joy that I'm able to announce that We're getting married! That's right, there will be a Mrs. Yak, and who knows- maybe sometime down the road there'll be a bunch of miniature yaklings ;) No further details, but we'll let you know what transpires. Cheers and hero cookies, - Infinity_Yak And now onto great news! The Nintendo DS has been finalized as *drum roll* The Nintendo DS! The new design has been unveiled as well! Here are the pictures! Nintendo DS open. Nintendo DS Closed. I think it looks much slicker and I likes it. Oh, there's more stuff. Atlas and SquareEnix have some DS stuff. Atlas is releasing five DS games. These are the games. 1. Shin MegamiTensei DS - Known as Persona or Revelations: Demon Slayer in the USA. This is an RPG. 2. Choro Q - Miniture Penny Racer style cars in racing action. 3. Cadeuceus - Dunno. 4. Snowboard Kids DS - Big headed action racing game. Woo? 5. Jinsei Game DS - A board game.. game. Neat! I'll bet about three of those total make it here to the USA. SquareEnix included a poll card with Final Fantasy 1 & 2 for GBA asking gamers if they would like to see any of the following games on the Nintendo DS. 1. Final Fantasy III 2. Final Fantasy IV 3. Final Fantasy V 4. Final Fantasy VI 5. The Saga Series 6. The Seiken Densetsu Series (Sword of Mana, Secret of Mana) 7. Front Mission (!!!!) 8. Chrono Trigger (!!!!!) 9. Hanjuku Heroes (?) So, every single one of those is a potential DS title now. Nice, SquareEnix.. how EVIL. Well, later! Comment? -PAW- July 24th, 2004 - Ham-hamming around. Nintendo has launched their website for the upcoming Ham Ham Sports game. That game is going to rock. Still fighting sleepiness and and such; but I thought I would point out something. On a few major sites, the rumored second wave of NES Classics titles is now said to show up in October. That makes sense and you should know that they are right. However, we told you a month or so ago that Nintendo was going to start discontinuing the original NES Classic series in Late August. Earlier this month, we even had a LIST of games that the second series will include. Check the major news people sometime closer to the 15th or so of August for confirmation. You may be surprised at how accurate we get the list. I'm curious myself to see if my sources landed us a highly accurate if not perfect list. Oh, new Legend of Zelda game for DS planned and mapped out in a rumored sort of way. May include Four Swords as part of the package. Should be interesting. Comment? -PAW- July 20th, 2004 - I wish there was more news. Well, the latest bits of news seem to confirm that the Nintendo DS will indeed hit stores in November. The rumors and recent developments have listed that it will launch with at least 11 titles. Here's what we have so far. 1. Wario Ware: Amazing Touch Game$ (Nintendo) -tenative title- 2. Mario Kart: Nitro Circuit (Nintendo) -tenative title- 3. Metroid Prime: Hunters (Nintendo) 4. The Urbz (EA) 5. Madden 2005 (EA) I will investigate into the rest soon. Oh! A special Emerald Colored GBA with a sweet Green Rayquaza image on it will be available at the Pokemon Center Online in Japan for the release of Emerald. Oh, quick run down on Emerald features! -Compatible with Wireless Adapter (Included) -Game Plot featuring a focus on Rayquaza. (The STAR of the seventh Pokemon movie., That just came out in Japan on the 17th of July.) -Game based in Hoenn region with new places never before seen in previous Ruby/Sapphire game -Both Team Magma and Team Aqua in the game plot. -Brand new clothes styles for the main Male/Female trainers. -New Secret Base Furniture and locations! -Brand new Pokemon Frontier with new battle and tournament options. -Brand new Pokemon Animations (Similar to the Crystal version animations) We will see Emerald in the USA hopefully by May 2005. Comment? -PAW- July 15th, 2004 - Newsity we missed; because we felt like it! Well, not really. Usually, we here at DMG Ice - the cutting edge proliferates of fresh newsity, the Premier Counter Culture Magazine- are either ahead of the pack or not updating. Sometimes I forget to mention slightly less appealing news that ends up in our indomitable pile of pure junk that those handy Blue Virii plant on my desk every day. They only HOPE I read it. In the pile, Ubisoft announced on July 13th via press release; that they would be releasing a Star Wars game entitled: "Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the Force" on September 21st, 2004. The game follows the original Star Wars Trilogy and features amazing cash-in features. However, all GOOD Star Wars fans will be too busy watching the DVDs while burning effigies of Ewoks in praise of George Lucas' continued re-editing to pay any attention. I heard that George takes Steve's advice and finally replaces all those meddle-somely violent lightsabers with "Jedi Phones." The biggest scene being when Luke realizes he is out of his calling range and Darth Vader relentlessly speaks forth his famous line: "Luke! I am your Service Provider!" A bit I need to tell you about now. For one, the newsity got so out of hand in size that I have to shuffle it off to another spot. Up above the newsity is link to what was here before. Gots that? Okay! Anyhow, working on a few refurbishment behind the scenes. You will see them soon! Anyhow, next in line. Tales of Symphonia has shipped to retailers. It is for the Nintendo Game Cube device. You know, that other system that Nintendo has. It's not as popular as the Game Boy Advance; but Nintendo still supports it for some reason or another. You can play Game Boy games on it. I recommend that all our readers rush out and buy this RPG, then flood Nintendo's phone lines and mailboxes with fanart, poetry, and demands that they release TALES OF PHANTASIA for the Game Boy Advance over here. That game features a huge amount of vocals, sweet RPG gameplay, good story, great graphics, great music, and other things we enjoy. However, Nintendo has not announced it or the seminal gamegasm known as Earthbound Collection over here. They must be made to feel guilty and harassed. Nintendo buckles if there is too much pressure. Push them HARDER. Break out the hoods or make Yoshi towers if you need to. We will extract it! Sony announced a paragraph or few of games for their PSP. 98% of the list was games that are already on other systems in one form or another. A lot of racing games on the list. But I'm sure those games will be fun for the 3 to 4 hours of battery life that the PSP grants people. The most "exciting" software they announced was "Talkman." Talkman translates words for people. Now, they can carry on a conversation for at least a few hours of hunt and peck button pushing! It seems such a shame that you can not -say- type out what you want to say on an on-screen touch keyboard while having it be translated on the top screen if the voice recognition microphone is not responding to your sexy attempt at an accent. So, feel free to engage in bird directed ill communication. If all else fails, translating Japanese badly could at least land you a job at GameSpot. The latest number crunch data is in from Famitsu. The big news is that they liked Final Fantasy 1 & 2, giving it a Platinum award with 35 out of 40 points. They also felt like smoochie with Ham Ham Sports. That game netted a 30 out of 40. It should hopefully arrive here soon. Boktai 2 earned a 32 out of 40 with no additional fancy medal. The game is still sexy though. Also revealed were unit sales for the first and second quarters of 2004 in Japan. Here you go! Game Boy Advance SP - 1,295,460 Game Boy Advance - 158,516 Combined Game Boy sales - 1,453,976 Play Station 2 - 1,365,260 So, basely put -by itself- the Game Boy Advance SP sold only 69,800 units less than the Play Station 2. If I combine the sales of both versions of the Game Boy into one lump sum, the system sold 88,716 more units than the PS2. Since the original Game Boy Advance is being phased out in Japan, expect the sole sales of the Game Boy Advance SP to beat the PS2 in Q3 and Q4 sales data. However, we do have to factor in that this fourth quarter is when the Nintendo DS and the PSP debut. Should be interesting to see what effect those have. Expect Pokemon Emerald to follow it's predecessors and take the top sales spot in Q4. The Fire & Leaf versions sold a total of 2,136,737 copies in Japan alone. The Emerald version has the added bonus of also being usable on the Nintendo DS. Speaking of the DS, some unconfirmed reports place it at a November 11th, 2004 launch for $179.95 in the United States. That is completely unconfirmed; but it places the MSRP for the DS at about HALF of the PSP proposed MSRP. The same reports also state that Nintendo will have at least 11 of their own in-house games out for the system before the end of the year. Neat unconfirmed thing, is it not? Oh, another magazine in Japan quoted an un-named Nintendo employee as criticizing the PSP as "not being a real video game device"; because of the unit branching into music and video playback. I looked all over for a reference to WHO said it; but I could not find that information. Kind of a stupid criticism though as the Game Boy Advance plays music (Songpro) and videos (From Majesco!) as well. If I were to criticize the PSP on its video, I would point to the fact that watching Spider-Man 2 on the PSP would almost kill it's battery before the movie finished. Lord of the Rings is out of the question on that device. Ah, well. Comment? -PAW- | |
