Quote of the Update: "Just ten more days..."

Eidos the body good!
Eidos PLC (huh?) has a deal with Enix Corporation to publish (distribute) "Dragon Warrior Monsters: Terry's Wonderland" for the Game Boy Color! (Oh, it's also backwards compatible...) Anyways, Eidos is going to distribute it in Australia, Europe, and here in the USA and Canada! Bwa ha ha! Alright! And everyone thought I was nuts for keeping it on the release list. ^_^ Well, Terry's Quest to save his sister from an evil monster is coming to the states and it's a GOOD thing. Yup.. I think that you'll like it a lot.[PAW]

Ice Blue: Album references tomorrow!  Yay...
Philip Wesley: Be afraid...
Infinity Yak: I'm very afraid...  I think I need a vacation!  Whoops, just had one :)

Importationality
Well, some people may have noticed that we DON'T cover Japanese/European news on this site. Well, that's now going to change.. LOOK! This is a new section.. it's called "Importationality". It's about stuff that is happening in Japan/Europe/and all the other places that aren't here in North America. Well, here you go![PAW]

-Banpresto and Red are working on a "Cooking RPG" called "Battle Cooking Legend: Bistro Recipe" for release on October 8 in Japan.

Ice Blue: Developers will try anything original these days... (especially after Pokémon and Harvest Moon!)
Philip Wesley: I think that those dating sims need to be ported here.
Infinity Yak: I think that they should have an easy bake oven adapter for that, so you could eat the evil foods... or maybe you could eat the cartridge (mmnm... chips....  silicon-ee goodness)

Daily Muk.
Are you still confused about Pokémon Yellow? Well, don't be. It displays some nice Super Game Boy color on Game Boy Color.. and it's fully translated already.. it just hasn't fully been bug tested. :)

Quote of the Update: "Tommorrow.. you need to go to some one you don't know and tell them that a Blue Virus loves them. Try it!"
Warm Fuzzy Feeling.
Well, here's an excerpt from an article on the Pokémon Tour!

Pokémon craze lures crowds to show
Detroit Free Press, Aug. 2, 1999
"Thousands of kids swarmed", yesterday, to the Oakland Mall in Troy, MI, in "adoration of the video game and trading card craze at the Pokémon League Summer Training Tour '99 hoping to claim the title of Pokémon master." One attendee flew his son in from Clearwater, Fla. so he could tell his friends that "he was the best Pokémon trainer in the world."

Well, there we go. I'm not the only insane Pokémon freak in the world. [PAW]

Infinity_Yak:  I wish they'd do something like that for Galaga... or some other good game :)
Adrock: If I ever see a bigger Pokémon freak then Philip... I'm going to get rid of the game. I value my sanity quite a bit.
Jazzman: ??? What the heck is a pokémon? (Note: It's called sarcasm, kids.)
Philip Wesley: Maybe Pokémon is sometype of new strain of the head cold? I'm not really sure. ^_^

Better than it was.
Do you want to go see "The Iron Giant"? Well, if you don't.... what's wrong with you? That movie is based on the old comic books.. it doesn't resort to cheesy sidekicks or lame-arse-ala-Disney musical numbers. Nope.. it just has a good story with a deeper meaning to it and astounding animation.. okay.. here's ANOTHER reason to go see it. The biggest and baddest trailer since "Star Wars: Episode 1" bounces into the scene here. "Pokémon: The First Movie" is set to hit down the smack. AND you don't have to put up with "Meet Joe Black" this time. Anyways, the movie posters show that it is no longer: "Pokémon: The movie -Mewtwo Strikes Back-" It's "Pokémon: The First Movie". And do you know why? Well, because "Pokémon Exploration Party" is getting the green light for translation after it is released in Japan this Fall. This means that next Spring.. you're going to see all four of the Rare Birds, and that really big Leviathon looking Pokémon in action.. complete with the obligitory reworked soundtrack ala John Loeffler. (He wrote and co-wrote the theme song, Pokérap, musical scores, etc.) [PAW]
"The Poster!"

Infinity_yak:  Hehehe... Pokerap- say it fast enough and it sounds wrong!
Adrock: You teach me and I'll teach you!
Jazzman: Trust me, it's going to be better than the Mario movie. *shudder*
Philip Wesley: I know people who liked that Mario Bros. movie; I haven't seen it yet.. so I'll rent it sometime.

Slow Drag.
Dragon Quest Monsters... is it coming here? You can bet your sister that it's coming to the States and Canada. (Where it will be -very- expensive.) Anyways, here is a quote from Yoshinobu Chida (Senior managing director at Enix and producer of the Dragon Quest series!) He chortled this:

Dragon Warrior Monsters has sold over 2.2 million pieces here in Japan since first released last year. We are very excited to have a chance to introduce such a big title to a world-wide audience through Eidos Interactive, which is one of the best software publishers in the Western world.

On a sour and mean note.. I would like to say that if Eidos is the best.. why are we stuck with endlessly lame Tomb Raider sequels and more delays for Soul Reaver? [PAW]

Infinity_Yak: It's about time.  Dragon Warrior's probably the most underrated game series of all time!
Adrock: Naw, I already bet my sister that Beatmania was coming to the US.
Jazzman: Dragon Warrior seriously competes with the FF series. As long as the translation doesn't have a half naked girl running around with a gun.

Damaged Goods.
Did you read the preview for "Shamus"? well, it turns out that the company making it was not liscensed.. although Telegames is liscensed; Jungle Vision -that game's programmers- are not. Well, they weren't. But now they are. :) So if you dig the old PC game "Shamus". Jump for joy; because a very cool version of it with more enemies, cut-scenes, and more is on it's way! [PAW]

Infinity_Yak: Tisk Tisk Tisk...  I bet they were thinking "You know, I might have forgotten something, but I can't remember what it was!"  I bet they felt stupid :)
Jazzman: SOMEONE didn't look for the gold seal...
Philip Wesley: As long as the game comes out.. it's okay.

Sooner or later.
Anyways, Wizards of the Coast has made over $1 million in "e-commerce" recently and consecutively for the last few weeks... why? Well, what do you expect? It's a simple math problem. "Magic: The Gathering" + Pokémon: The Card Game" + "Dungeons & Dragons" = A severe headache for everyone at Hoyle, Donruss, Fleer, and Topps. On an unrelated note.. those crazy album references are here... beware. [PAW]

Infinity_Yak: Hmm...  I was never allowed to play D&D.  The only people in Calgary who still play Magic cards hang out in the geek portion of Mac Hall at the U of C :)
Philip Wesley: I'm thinking of starting up on that game... I want to be called: "DungeonMaster Dyne".. wait. That's wrong.

Out of my head.
Hey! Do think that someday.. this 1st Edition Holographic Charizard card will be worth more than that George Brett rookie? Although.. that would be just.. wrong. [PAW]

Infinity_Yak:  I pitty the foo' who buys that piece of paper.
Jazzman: The dmgice staff should have their own pokemon cards. "JAZZMAN uses ELBOW DROP on ADROCK!,   1,000,000 Damage!"
Philip Wesley uses Charming Smile Attack on Jazzman. Jazzman is blinded by the dazzling white and is rendered unmoveable until next deal.

Importationality
Today's Importationality has been done by Philip Wesley. With Smart-arse comments by everyone else.

- In Japan, the top ten selling games so far this week contain THREE Game Boy titles in them. Yup.. these games are currently kicking some butt over there.. be afraid. In at #2 is Yugioh II: "Dark Duel Stories" (Flying Dragon 2 "Card" in the US.) by Konami; and rounding it out in Medalot 2 with it's Kabuto Version at #7 and it's Kuwagata Version at #9. Those two games are by Imagineer and they are "Pet Sim/Breeding" games. (Think a sinister hybrid of Pokémon/Tamagotchi/Monster Rancher..) This is pretty good compared to the N64's two games and the Dreamcast's NONE in the Top Ten. Oh, I don't see Wonderswan or Neo Geo Pocket Color anywhere here... Hmm.

- Pokémon 2 (Gold and Silver.) has slipped in the most anticipated new games list according to Japanese Polls. It's now #5; instead of #3.. because.. the games that are beating it are coming out sooner. Hey, it's facing against a Resident Evil game, Two Dragon Warrior games, and Gran Turismo 2... all four of the titles come out sooner.. so this is to be expected. It did beat Shen Mue. Do you hear the sound of Bernie Stolar choking again?

Infinity_Yak:  It's good to see the GB doing well overseas.  It's also a shocker that pokemon was nowhere on the charts :)
Adrock: Holding a game back actually decreases the antipation of the game. See why we never get exact release dates?
Jazzman: On the other hand, I don't want my Japanese dating sims. "Please select a choice - [Flowers] [Dinner] [Movie] [Go upstairs for coffee. If you know what I mean.]"
Philip Wesley: I like my coffee shaken, not stirred. And with a touch of cream and sugar. Sometimes I invite other people over and we have "Coffee Parties". I think that it's perfectly fine to enjoy coffee while in public as well. I am a big supporter of Starbucks and other fine coffee shops. Coffee is for sharing. Coffee makes everyone feel warm inside. Give coffee to lots of people and we can all be happier!

Quote of the Update: "I can feel little people in my Colon.." (Courtesy of Beefy_B after he ate too much Popcorn in #blue.)

At last we will reveal ourselves.
Well, for once.. the #1 selling game in the US isn't Pokémon.. it's Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for the N64. (Why not Rogue Squadron?) Pokémon Blue and Red come in at 2 and 3. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe comes in at #5, and Pokémon Pinball hits at #7. Sickeningly enough.. Superman hit at #8. (!!!) Well, that's interesting.. isn't it? And on a slightly un-Game Boy note.. Lunar is out-selling Star Ocean. (Lunar is better...) [PAW]

Jazzman: I told you. I think people buy Superman just to see how bad it is. They can't be that stupid.
Ice Blue: I've played Lunar and I think it's pretty cool...  (Nintendo is better though!)
Philip Wesley: I own Lunar.. and I wish it had sold better than Star Wars Racer.
Adrock: Wipeout with an Star Wars license. Still cool though.

Why GBC is superior.
Well, if you have seen a Neo Geo Pocket Color in the stores.. don't buy it. The Borg that is Pocket IGN is showing off the latest nifty screenshots of what Icarus has done with Game Boy Color.. using that layering deal that Slugfest does.. but these stills are beyond that game. I see these screenshots and think.. I want an RPG... with cinema stills just like this. Oh, the Neo Geo Pocket Color.. while marketed as "stronger" is in actuality weaker. *gasp* It can not reall display more colors on-screen. One of my programming friends said that a GBC can display 256+ colors at a time in motion with no problem.. you just need to rewrite the games codeing. Anyways, the NGPC can only display about 146 colors on-screen.. Slugfest shows more than that on-screen. And the poor NEo Geo device has only 4096 colors in it's pallete. Game Boy Color has 32,000. See, stick to your Game Boy Color. And besides.. with Revelations: Demon Slayer coming out this month aound the 20th.. and Survival Kids, Resident Evil, and more on the way.. who needs Crush Roller? [PAW]
"The Borg."

Jazzman: Dear God, look at those shots... What?....Did you say Game Boy Camera sequel?....
Ice Blue: No he didn't...
Foy: Foy!  (I could have foretold this but no one asked!  Oh well...)
Adrock: It's cheaper.

Importationality
-Epoch will release J-League Excite Stage GB for Game Boy Color on August 13 in Japan. The game is a sequel to their Super Famicom (SNES) soccer game. This game features sixteen Japanese League teams and over 256 actual characters, you can select your favorite characters and create your own Dream Teams. Although.. I really don't have a reason to dig Japanese Baseball... cheering with drums and bells isn't my thing.

Ice Blue: right.....  I missed the news yesterday!  <:(

Daily Muk.
Sigh.. brain froze.. umm.. there are 168 different available Pokémon cards in the US. Not counting reprints.

Quote of the Update: "Beware of the Deep #blue Seamonkies!"
Lie low
Hasbro Interactive is using it's NASCAR liscense to make "NASCAR Challenge" for the Game Boy Color. This is a game that Tom Dusenberry -President of Hasbro Interactive- said is: "Teaming quality gameplay with the hot NASCAR license a winning combination for Nintendo's fast-growing Game Boy Color gaming platform." Well, I should say that My Game Boy Color has been growing fast too.. and it's now a teenager. For some odd reason, my Game Boy Color still hangs out with that Game Gear down the street; although I already told my Game Boy Color that she was bad news. *sigh* [PAW]

Infinity_Yak: Mine's been hanging around with my brother's a little too much.  I wonder if I'll be seeing any GB Pockets sprouting any time soon!
Ice Blue: Mine joined a gang and started killing NGPCs!  I don't mind!  Although this joke has been played out too much!
Jazzman: You're telling me. I work my butt off here at dmgice, only to come home to find batteries and cartridges strewn about. Back in my day, we didn't have all this fancy color...
Philip Wesley: I once came home and caught my Old Game Boy (The big one) and my neighbor's Lynx. I knew I shoulda sent it to ROTC; instead of Catholic School.

Worlds Collide: a fairy tale.
Well, those Canadians.. they would be so lucky. Grand Toys International has the rights to produce Pokémon toys (Balls, kites, etc.) and school supplies. (You know.. pens, pencils, binders, stationary sets, teflon.) Anyways, those products will hit that place around Fall 1999. The average costs per pencil will be precisely $78 Canadian whatever-their-money-is-called. Sleep better knowing this. Oh.. the title is just a gratuitous Thursday Song Title/album reference.. this is true. [PAW]

Infinity_Yak: Canada rocks.  Oh, by the way, it's called a Do-lar, can you say Do-lar?
Ice Blue: No I can't...
Foy (using its human voice today): Doe-lar? Rhyming with Stolar? You fool! it should be Doll-ar!
Jazzman: Whatever it is, they don't pay me enough of it.

Here with me.
Well, the incredible "Sephiroth" -My Mewtwo- has dug up some tasty "news". First up, Remember Silent Hill for GBC? No? Well, we reported on Silent Hill being considered for Game Boy Color. Well, that's STILL on the drawing boards... although I heard that Flagship may be doing the scenario. Weird. Well, Beatmania is heading over the the States next year. Under a different name than the Japanese game. That's unusual. [Mew2]

Infinity_Yak: That's going to be pretty cool, if it ever gets off the drawing boards and into a cartridge :)
Ice Blue: Beatmania.
Philip Wesley: Sigh.. Ice Blue is our resident "Ed Harris". Beatmania.. it follows in the Korean Arcade "Gun Dealer" tradition.

Phobic
Well.. I found out.. that while Pokémon has the fastest selling record of all Game Boy games.. it hasn't sold more than.. Super Mario Land. Wow. That's amazing. Well, Very nice work there Mario. Maybe if *hint hint* Nintendo were to say.. rerelease Super Mario Land 1 & 2 in a cartridge kinda like R-Type DX... maybe Super Mario Land will hold on to that record when Pokémon Yellow comes out.[PAW]

Infinity_Yak:  Actually, there are more Tetris cartridges around than Mario Land 1, but most of those don't count as sales cuz they're pack ins.  I think there are like, 65 million copies of GB tetris floating around, and all but three were reported at the cash converters by my house last week! :)
Ice Blue: Tetris should be the most selling game of all time!
Jazzman: Do we have to say it any louder? We want Metroid DX! We want Mario Land DX! Should I make a list???

Importationality.
-More Pokémon 2 Gold and Silver stuff. Now you have a wonderful device called: *drum roll* "Pocket Gear". What a wonderfully unusual name! Anyways, it's a Telephone, Radio, Data Organizer, and more! You can call your Mom, Prof. Oak, or that cute girl in Saffron. (He he he) The Data Organizer is basically that options menu we know and love from the first game. :) The Radio allows you to keep track of what is going on; what time it is.. and special Pokémon events. Oh, it's ALSO a Sound/Music Test! Oh, you WILL need that radio a lot to keep up with Pokémon events; because stuff happens in the game at Specific dates and times and you need to know those times.. or you'll miss out. Also, there are some events you MUST complete in time limits. This game is setting out to be more ambitious than the first game. With limitations on what you can hold determined by the pockets in your backpack; and some Pokémon sleeping during the day or the night.

Infinity_Yak:  "I'm just mad about Saffron, and Saffron's mad about me...  They call it mellow yellow (Quite rightly)"
Ice Blue: At first I thought it was a real device!
Jazzman: With all this junk, Ash will have to buy Pocket Gear for Dummies or Pokédex for Dummies or PCs for Dummies.
Philip Wesley: I was in Wal-Mart.. and I saw a book called: "Sex for Dummies".. and I said a little prayer that someday.. PETA would run our nation's schools.

Daily Muk.
Snorlax. This gracious beast appears only twice in the game and it learns Head But, Amnesia, and Rest.. right off the bat. It learns Body Slam at 35 (A good move), Harden at 41 (Huh?), Double Edge at 48, and Hyper Beam at 56. Amnesia, rest, Slam, and Hyper Beam are your best bet. You can build up it's special and then use Hyper Beam for excellent results. It has enough HP to survive a lot of attacks.. while it charges up.

Quote of the Update: "Not Atommo.. Superman."
The Iron Giant/Pokémon Trailer.
Well, here's some good news and some bad news.. I'll say the bad news first. Because of the lack of any real news. I don't report on delays in the US. Nope.. I think that paints too negative a picture of the GBC market; because.. handheld games are always being delayed. And it frustrates people. Since I also don't feel like writing articles on hacking tools. (Hacking/ROM gear isn't covered here because.. it's not a side of the Game Boy Color that we wish to endorse.) So, instead of doing stuff like that. I'll give you a special treat. No.. not Poppy Seed or the Sock Monkey. My "impressions" of the Pokémon Trailer and the movie that I sacrificed an update to go see. That movie is The Iron Giant. And I must say that it is THE best Animated film out this year so far. I can cuss a little on the site.. so I will say that: "The Iron Giant is a HECK of a lot better than Tarzan." (See.. I cussed.) It has everything it needs; a fantastic story, artistic depth, and superb voice-acting. It is missing all the bad elements of recent Disney movies. No annoying voice acting; no self-censorship, and the sound track to the Iron Giant doesn't feature any "rap" or "new songs by Top 40 artists". I would like to comment that the Soundtrack album has music from the late 1950's in it and that the fourth track makes me think of Pikachu. Now, this Iron Giant movie is awesome. Go see it. Go see it now. All the other movies coming out this weekend are kinda limpish. (Except for that Thomas Crown Affair movie and the "sure-to-be-a-cult-hit" Mystery Men. Heck.. MM has Paul Rueben in it.)

Anyways, now to the Trailer for the Pokémon movie.. it's short. About a minute really. It has a voice that announces that the rarest pokémon of all (Mew) will face off against another extremely rare one (Mewtwo). It shows about 2 seconds of actual movie footage. Most of the trailer is the announcer and the different logos. The actual 2 seconds of movie footage show and reveal nothing. The slogan: "Training is over." is mentioned and it seems to hit hard enough to show that the emphasis in the campaign will be on Mewtwo Strikes Back; and not Pikachu's Summer Vacation. Although, after a Pokéball zooms in and catches the "Pokémon: The First Movie" logo.. Pikachu pops out to say his "Pikachu" phrase. It's a lot like the Toy Story 2 trailer really.. it's meant to play off of an existing fad. Kids love Pokémon. So.. they see: "Rare Pokémon" and "Pokémon: The First Movie"; then they HAVE to go see it. It's one of those things. It's not the World's Best Trailer.. in fact.. it leaves just enough to make kids start gossiping about what is going to be in the movie and what the "Next Pokémon Movie" will be. Slick.

On an interesting note.. the music that plays during the trailer is upbeat and a little foreboding.. this makes me happy because it shows that John Loleffler knows what he is doing and so far.. the score is going to be cool. (Yummy.. instrumental tracks.) I now have higher hopes for the new score.. although.. the original Japanese score isn't bad at all... Oh, go see the Iron Giant this weekend and see that trailer. Note to Parents: The Iron Giant is rated PG. Because in one scene the boy gets a bloody nose. There is also the occasional somewhat immature joke. (You should be used to that by now.) The Giant has a side to him that can be a little scary.. and the word "Hell" is mentioned a few times as well as a hilarious scene where Hogarth is asked to say the prayer before a meal and well.. you gotta see that scene. As for violent content? Well, let's see... weapons and firing.. yes. Encouragement of violence as a solution? No. Not at all. In fact.. the movie revolves around a need to put down weapons. The Giant has a destructive side that is triggered as a defense mechanism; because he was originally sent to destroy; but the robot doesn't want to destroy things. The Giant is as human as any of the characters in the film. In fact he is more so; than the casts of so many of these movies today. You forget that it's an animated film sometimes and you can relate to the Giant. Anyways.. take your kids to see it.. bug your parents to see it. Just go see it. It's an excellent movie.. AND you get to see the Pokémon Trailer.. Score! [PAW]

Ice Blue: I thought the Giant's name was Hogarth until I read the LA times article! Weird!
Jazzman: I finally found that trailer again, you'll need realplayer to see it. Special thanks to Wolfstg for sending that in. Right here
Philip Wesley: The movie didn't leave me enough time to properly update.. so.. I'll update on Sunday.. tommorrow.. I'm going to St. Louis. Oh, no Importationality today. :(

August 8th - 9th, 1999
Quote of the Update: "Somewhat Bulbasaured out."

Well, not much today..
So.. I'm combining the update tonight with yesterdays update. Gasp! Well, here's the only piece of news.. Nintendo and Keebler have a site up for their "Escape to color" promo. Sigh.. those elves are pretty creepy really.. I mean.. they live in trees and make cookies. That's about as demented as something from "The Wall".[PAW]
"Elves.."

Jazzman: "We don't need no.... creme filled cookies."
Ice Blue: I don't know about you but Philip, Adam, and me do...
Philip Wesley: Creme... naw.. I dislike the creme.. it bugs my back filling.

It's coming
I've been given the green light. Expect to see a DMG Ice newsletter relatively soon. This won't be  your stereotypical "video game site newsletter". It's gonna be much more. We've got some awesome ideas, but I'd love to hear yours. If you've got a good idea, I want to hear it.[JPC]

Philip Wesley: I work my staff to death.
Old-Timer Staffer that works in the DMG dungeon: Let me have my medication!
Random Blue Virus whips Old-Timer
Ice Blue in his Adrock costume: Go back to work!
Foy: Foy! (Is it just me does everyone have an Adrock costume?)

Pokémon: The Gathering
The next Pokémon Card Game sets are set to hit in October! Yes, now you too can enjoy cards from Urza's Filler-product... umm.. oops. Wrong card series. Anyways, the Fossil set is headed your way! And it brings you closer to Mew. Yup.. Fossil Mew.. Yippee! I wonder what the first edition holo cards will be... [PAW]

Ice Blue: You know what?  Pokémon: The Gathering makes more sense than Magic: The Gathering!  o_O
Jazzman: I'll trade you my Pikachu rookie card for that mew. Whoops, not that kinda of cards.
Philip Wesley: I'm building up a complete set of cards.. so far it's only worth about $175. :( But, I got some First Editions. :)

I Seek Pikachu
There are Pikachu Skins for ICQ Plus.  ICQ Plus is a program that is used to put skins on ICQ.  I found the Pikachu skins at Skin King, a site that's based in Chinese.  You have to wade through the side to find the skin so I've made it easy for you.  Go download the newest version (v2.01) and the Pikachu skins so you can see that yellow rat whenever you are online and chatting with your Pokémon loving buddies... or don't. Ice Blue: I wrote this!  Look at my initials... it looks familiar...
Philip Wesley: Wanna know what the initials stand for? Three guesses!
Jazzman in his Adrock costume: Where am I?
Sock Monkey sits there silently thinking Sock Monkey thoughts.

Daily Muk.
Am I the one one that wonders why Lapras is called Lapras? I'll find out why.. but it's called Laplace in Japan.. and I was tired and didn't feel like doing Daily Muk tonight.. sigh.

Quote of the Update: "Bananas are going around secretly."

Censored Mewsity?
I know.. no album references tonight.. there's just ONE freaky-dinky news item. :( But.. if you like Pokémon and the CCG.. you'll like it. Okay.. here's the deal: Fossil Mew? Well, some people say no.. others say yes.. so I called Wizards of The Coast. And.. it's a yes; but not in pre-constructed decks. In other words.. only in the Fossil Boosters. Oh, the preconstructed decks are also going to feature.. yet ANOTHER revision of the rules.. yippee. Oh, and my birthday is the 12th.. not today.. okay. :) [PAW]

Ice Blue (bringing out a cake): DAMN!
Foy: Foy! (yummy!)
Jazzman jumps out of the cake, much to everyones suprise.
Infinity_Yak:  Pull my finger...

August 12th, 1999
Quote of the Update: "And then.. the letters flowed."

Break hard the wishbone.
Capcom and Nintendo are working together on three of the 6 announced GBC Legend of Zelda games... so.. this means that Capcom and Nintendo are working on the games and Flagship is working on the scenario. Mmmmkay. Get this.. these three are based on the Legend of Zelda 64/Gaiden titles. This means that "The Mysterious Acorn" is NOT a sequel to Link's Awakening. (Well, duh... look at the title. It's obviously has something to do with the Deku Tree.) I'm guessing.. a series of prequels. Nifty. Oh, to make it more intrigueing.. Nintendo wants one of these out in Japan by December. Cool.[PAW]

Jazzman: hmm.... Capcom now ,eh? I still don't like the smell of it.... I won't be happy until I hear that Miyamoto is officially working on these himself.
Ice Blue: You fool!  It would take decades if he worked on them himself!!  ;)
Philip Wesley: We want Miyamato to watch Capcom and make sure they don't screw up. It wouldn't take decades anyways.

Flames of truth.
Legend of Zelda this.. Legend of Zelda that.. okay.. is that enough? No? One of the three games is said to be useable with Legend of Zelda Gaiden ala the Transfer pak. Drooling yet? I knew you would be. Let's just say... that this Transfer pak concept includes... chickens. [PAW]

Jazzman: I've fought many foes in the Legend of Zelda, but none have been quite as so elusive as.....the chicken!!!! (dun dun dunnnnn)
Ice Blue: Right... when they attack you, where do they fly from?  How do chickens fly?  Where do they come from when they do?
Philip Wesley: Ice Blue, chickens fly from Uranus to attack. Chickens have wings, wings glide/fly short distances. I already answered that question.. they come from Uranus.

All fall down.
Hmm... should Game Boy Color worry? Now that the Lynx is actually getting new games, the Game Gear is getting a facelift, Neo Geo Pocket Color is out, and the Wonderswan is headed to the States? Naw. This little excuse for an article is here to say something. Game Boy Color doesn't need to worry. Because... look at it. You have a wide variety of Mature and Friendly titles. It's got everything comeing for it from Legend of Zelda to Resident Evil, Survival Kids to Crystalis, Street Fighter Alpha to Metal Gear Solid. Dragon Warrior to Pokémon Yellow. This year is going to be sweet! So don't go sell your GBC to buy a new system.. you'll miss out on one of the best years in Game Boy history.[PAW]

Jazzman: The Gameboy has seen a few generations of portable competition and survived them all, and that was in its black and white days. The gameboy has an unstoppable library of (mostly) fantastic games behind it. It all comes down to one thing, as it always has: Do you want games that look good, or games that are just plain fun? Here's to another 10 years.
Ice Blue: Are we in speech class or something?
Philip Wesley: Speech Class would not hurt some of the staff...
Jerry the shy yellow Virus:  I remember when GB was almost a dead system!  GBP revived it!  this year is the goldenage of GB?  About 30 games in one season!

Unveiled Faces.
Sigh... do you LOVE those little Pokémon figurines? The "Battle Action Figures". Well, remember how a few of them were "retired". Well, they have been reissued. Oh, a second series of the toys is out now. Basically, Hypno + Drowzee, Hitmonlee + Hitmonchan, and a Scyther + Chansey + Pikachu large set. Watch for them. The Game Boy "blasters" that are included are now in clear Purple and Purple as well. [PAW]

Jazzman: I have a little Bulbasuar sitting on top of my Mac. Sometimes he talks to me. He tells me to do bad things.... "No!...NO!..........SHUT UP!"
Ice Blue: You have a Mac?  I can't stand those sometimes.
Philip Wesley: To be honest.. I like Macs.. for their graphics programs.

Come in.
Well, guess what.. tommorrow is FRIDAY the 13th!!! And.. because it is Friday.. it means.. "Helpless Victim Day!" If you are on ICQ... and we pick you... EVERYONE will see your comments on the days news! You'll be an instant celebrity! Members of the opposite sex will throw themselves at you! Okay.. maybe not; but you get to riff with us. :) every Friday.. so.. get ICQ.. and hope. Oh, my number on ICQ is "10714727".[PAW]

Jazzman: Oh, and you get to keep some of these random blue viruses. Oh second thought.... take them all.
A random blue virus staples the Jazzman's latest editorial to his shirt.
IceBlue: Virii don't wear shirts!
Foy: Foy!  (We almost forgot to mention that today is the webmaster's 19th anniversary of birth!  Happy Birthday Philip!)
Ice Blue: I love you!  j/k o_O  (inside joke, folks!)

Quote of the Update: "I just realised that some people just aren't funny.."

Welcome to the "Next" level
"Hey JoJo! I would like to give a shoutout to by buds at NintendoNext and SegaNext!" Yeah... inside joke there to anyone that lives in the L.A. area... ;) But seriously... our buds at SegaNext... are opening like REALLY soon... so check it out... [BS]
"Shameless plug."

Ice Blue: I know that this was NOT Nintendo related... flame as you will but the site rules... (Forgive me Philip... Arthur made me do it ;) )

I have a worm in my pocket and it wants to play!
He he he.. don't you love titles like that? So delightfully messed up. Anyhoo, Nintendo has put up a "preview/review" of Worms: Armageddon. See it. It will "worm" it's way into your heart.
"Crawl into that hole over there."

Ice Blue: I'm tired!  I slept only 7 hours total in the past 50 hours, you slavedriver!
Jazzman is whipped by a random blue virus.
GG-Duo: Eating worms are pretty cool, don't ya know? Um, they're as much fun as peeing your pants! Hurrah!!!!
Beefy_B: A preview of worms? I already had them once when i was 5.

Camp with us.
Well, most of us. I, Philip Wesley, will be in Cabin 17 and Ice Blue is in Cabin 12. (Yippee) What are we talking about? Camp Hyrule. :) NIntendo's Camp Hyrule.. it's coming soon and I will be there with my Avardancer N-Sider name. :) And Ice Blue is.. iceblue. Beware of us. Hmm.. I sense evil emanating from that cabin over there.. I'll grab Buzz and check it out.

Ice Blue: Kum-by-YA!
GG-Duo: Ah, the annual Nintendo "We-would-make-it-game-related" Youth Labor Camp. I love the summer.

Philidentials
Well.. there's very little news.. so.. I felt mischievious. Anyways, today.. me and my other me went to work. Worked a long time and made money.. which I promptly spent on a nice big lunch and a Meowth Yo-Yo. I like the yo-yo. It lights up and plays the opening chords from the show when you toss it. I can "Walk the Meowth".. but not very well. I'm going to teach new moves though. Eventually, it will go around the world. I also bought a Carolyn Arends Cd.. her latest one. I'm not too impressed with it.. I liked her other two better; but it is still a pretty cool CD. Oh, go see The Iron Giant this weekend. It's is WAY better than your average generic Disney fodder. In fact, it's a revolution in the art form of animation. This and "Princess Monomoke" are the big animated films this year.. oh, and that Pokémon movie will rule too. Also check out Titan A.E. that looks interesting. Anyways, I also bought some gatorade. I drink a lot of gatorade. Okay.. mainly because it's Blue and it has a subtle taste. I'm drinking some orange gatorade right now. Yippee. My brain hurts.. I need some asprin. Another nice day in chat. We found out about Jazzman's Band Experiences (TM). And I found out the joy of #nocu. (Not!) Anyhow.. here's the news basically.

Ice Blue: This reminds me of something!  But I can't put my finger on it!  (did I mention I was tired?)
Jazzman stands up. "Hi, my name is John, and I'm a #blue - oholic."
GG-Duo: Philip, judging from your crazed ramblings, that's not gatorade you've been drinking...
Beefy_B: Yeah, its probably Powerade
Philip Wesley: Well, I won nothing from that one.. I will buy more until I win that contest and have Mia Hamm bring me Gatorade!

Importationality
-Did you love Pikachu Genki Dechu? (That "Talk to a Virtual Pikachu" game.) If you did.. you'll like the game that Nintendo is supposedly working on. It involves a "headset" Pak.. and it's a Virtual Pet type game. No details are available on it yet though.. other than that. Man.. I didn't even get a name for it. Well, if I track down more on this game.. I'll tell you.

Ice Blue dies of exhaustion
Kyle: Oh My God!  They killed Ice Blue!
Stan: You b@stards!
Cartman: This is f&$%ed up!
Kenny: mmfph mmfph!
GG-Duo in Adrock's costume: Blah Blah Blah.
Foy: Foy (It's Super Foy Genki Dechu II' Turbo Alpha EX 3: Third Strike!)
Beefy_B: I'm glad they killed Ice Blue, i never really liked him anyway.
Philip Wesley: Behave...

Saw some newsity?Tell us! You know you want to.

Quote of the Update: "Just be quick about it.."

We have no shame.
We support our friends.. and we think that you should check them out too. So.. SegaNext opened today.. check it out. [PAW]
"Shameless plug."

Quick Over-viewsity.
Sigh... I have to be quick tonight updating.. I have early shift tommorrow at work and I haven't gotten much sleep. AND because there isn't much newsity.. at all.. I'll run it through REALLY quickly. Behold.. "The Batch" from Poppy Seed. No comments as of now.. but if Ice Blue, Yak, Jazzy, or Adrock want to add anything to this later.. they can. :) -Philip Wesley-

Jazzman: Sigh.. My isp wouldn't connect last night. I hate my provider.

THE BATCH.
-The new Legend of Zelda game for GBC is listed as a puzzle game in the latest Famitsu. Why? Well, it could be an error.. or the game will be similar to "Mole Mania". (Think PUZZLE/RPG hybrid.) Well, Mole Mania is reviewed in our Reviews archives. Check that out. It's under "M".
-Resident Evil.. well.. I dislike to report on delays.. but this is some "good news" actually. It was delayed until January 2000 to instill a RUMBLE feature and work on bugs/sound.
-More RUMBLE cartridges are on the way! Let's see.. we have Top Gear Pocket, Pokémon Pinball, and 10 Pin Bowling right now. These titles will ALSO be RUMBLE paks: Missile Command (Shipped today!), Hole in One Golf (August 30th), Vigilante 8 (September), Zebco Fishing (September), F-15 Strike Eagle (September 15th), Nascar Racing (September 30th), and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (December 6th).
-Hello Kitty's Magic Cubes is now COLOR-ONLY, as is Deja Vu.
-Harvest Moonies.. rejoice. FINALLY, the Color version (Which we have import reviews of.) will hit stores October 26th.
-Here.. read this.. it's messed up.
"Isn't there a Bible verse against this?"
-Dragon's Lair is headed back to Game Boy.. and this time.. it won't be a tragic platform game from Sony Imagesoft.
-Gex 3 is headed our way October 15th. From whom? I'm guessing Sunsoft..
-Tommorrow.. I'll have a better update for ya'll. With Release Date updates and reviews.
-Speaking of reviews.. I found a site that Yak, Jazzy, and Adrock might like a lot better than Focus on the Family. I know I bookmarked it. It's an honest look at the media with true Biblical ethics. It's what you should expect from a real Christian. Anyways.. I would have a hard time disagreeing with ths site. "A treat for my staff."

Jazzman: A puzzle game. You can't say I didn't warn you. Anyway, my opinion on Pokémon is the same as it is with Magic: The Gathering, if you can play it, and it isn't a problem for you personally, then there's nothing wrong with it. I've been playing Pokémon for a long time, and it hasn't effected my relationship with God one bit.Oh, and I've seen that sight above before, I agree that it a good sight with practical views. Go check it out.

Saw some newsity?Tell us! You know you want to.

Quote of the Update: "Not Mewtwo, dear Ash, Magic Emperor Mewtwo!"

Sweet Surrender.
ONE news item tonight. *sigh* I still went ahead and did the album references tonight.. he he he. here are the Top Ten best selling portable games from August 1st to 7th, 1999. (Note the lack of any NGPC games....)

1 POKEMON PINBALL
2 POKEMON BLUE
3 POKEMON RED
4 SUPER MARIO BROS. DELUXE
5 DISNEY'S TARZAN
6 THE RUGRATS MOVIE
7 CONKER'S POCKET TALES
8 ZELDA:LINKS AWAKENING
9 WWF ATTITUDE
10 GAME & WATCH GALLERY 2

Well, this is okay... really.. it saddens me to see generic dribble like Tarzan and The Rugrats Movie game selling based on Graphics and liscenses. Sigh. And to make matters worse.. they outsell Legend of Zelda. That's pretty sad right there. For being more evil than Devil's Crush for Turbo Graphix 16.. Pokémon Pinball sold well.

Jazzman: At least there's no Superman for GBC.
Philip Wesley: Actually... there is.. and it's a better game than the N64 one... but not by much. :)
Ice Blue: It's cool how 2 non-GBC games are selling great!
Infinity_Yak: In a couple months, I hope Yars Revenge and Dragons Lair are right up there :)
Sock Monkey sits there... naw.. Sock Monkey streaks freely in a Sock Monkey way!

Daily Muk.
A little battle tactics for the night. You gotta love AMNESIA! Why? Because.. when combined with PSYCHIC; AMNESIA is oneo fthe cheapest moves in the game. Use AMNESIA twice and then use PSYCHIC.. you'll basically beat anything that way.. BUT.. if you're fighting against an opponent like a Vaporeon, or an Articuno.. watch out. Those two learn a move called MIST. MIST basically removes all stat increases/decreases. See how that works?

August 18th, 1999
Quote of the Update: "It wasn't me.. it was Lickitung!"

Seems like old news.
Well, here's a little bit of "newsity" from a slim day.. you may have heard about that recent Cereal/Pokémon bit; but did you know that it actually has been going on for two weeks already? I've been seeing the boxes where I work for that last week or so and I guess... I should have mentioned it. Oh, well. Speaking of old news.. some lovely new Tiger Electronics Pokémon toys are set to come out around the time of the movie.. one of them is a Pokéball Clock and a Pokédex with little pictures and sounds of all 151. :) See.. old news..  [PAW]

Ice Blue: Damn... my PokéDex doesn't identify Pokémon that I see...
Philip Wesley: Did you shark?

Why don't you get a job?
Nintendo is hiring.. go to their site and see. [PAW]
"Who needs Monster?"

Ice Blue: Cool. I wonder what positions are open...

August 19th, 1999
Quote of the Update: "Mew! We're Certified Mad..."

In Heaven
Nintendo.. you gotta love them.. umm.. videogames.com has this article you NEED to see.. you just do. :) It's better than sex.. okay.. maybe not. Thanks goes to pjacks for pointing it out to me.[PAW]
"Practice Safe Watching."

Jazzman: Go on boy, ride that kangaroo. hmm... This doesn't look as much like a puzzle game. I feel better knowing that Miyamoto is working with this, but I'm still suspicious.
Philip Wesley: Ride the kangaroo like there's no tommorrow!
Infinity_Yak:  I wanna see what happens when you pull its finger!
Ice Blue: 3 chapters?  One power, one courage, and one wisdom?  Sounds familiar...

Build it up - Tear it down
Well, evil album references are back.. GG_Duo guessed the last one almost immediately. It was Surfacing by Sarah McLaughlinhoweveryouspellherlastname. Thanks goes to Mike359 for pointing me to this item. :) It's a "Crack" of "Apprentice". Normally, Apprentice lets you play "Magic: The Gathering" on-line against other people. But... this "crack" lets you play POKéMON CCG instead. Now.. a complete deck of Basic, Jungle, and FOSSIL is at your command. Oh, come to #blue at 10:00 PM EST and Mike359 will be taking some challengers... like say... Charizard 2000. Okay.. here's the complete program. [PAW]
"Hello, Kids! I'm George Bush.. take this Crack."

Philip Wesley: I will take you all down in this game.. bwa ha ha.
Infinity_Yak:  Unfortunately, I had to go to a CFL game tonite and was unable to attend this pokemon related event.  See my disappointment :)
Ice Blue: Pokémon CCG are selling like EXPENSIVE hotcakes in the Los Angeles area...
Philip Wesley: Just download that baby.. and you're set.. you don't need to download anything else.. I don't think..

August 20th - 21st, 1999
Quote of the Update: "Laziness of this amount is a skill to be learned.."

Banzai! Pokémon "paper" Senshi!
According to Wizards of the Coast... the first "Tropical Mega Battle" between American card players and Japanese card players will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 24th, through the 27th. There are 36 "trainers" competing in the tourney. Although.. I really don't care. Because I'm not one of them. Hmmph. [PAW]

Ice Blue: Does it really take "talent" to play that card game?  You are really playing on luck...
greyleaf: It's competitions like these that make my blood run red, white, and blue. Go get 'em boys!
PTT: Who cares? Everyone knows I'm the pokémasta! Bow before me, pokéknaves! MWAHAHA
Philip Wesley taps his online pokédex. *ahem.*

Gotta love delays..
Well, the newsletter has been delayed a little. It's my fault; because I wasn't able to get on my computer in time to set up the really nifty extras we have planned.. but you can still sign up. [PAW]

Ice Blue: Haste makes waste...
PTT: Excuses Excuses, everyone knows yer just training yer Gamesharked Mewtwo 'Nine' for the next Pokémon tourney >:D
Philip Wesley: Naw.. you just generate it at level 2 and grow it to Level 100 from there.

Link to the Past(s)
Okay.. from what I have heard from many people.. the three Legend of Zelda games will be "connected" to each other. Yippee. I'm guessing that you can
most likely trade some sort of data via link cable or infrared. [PAW]

Ice Blue: Cool... Link can link to the Link in the other game...  it might fill the missing link in the story line... yay!
PTT: Argh, I need a link AWAY from IceBlue >:/
Philip Wesley: Hmmm. I can sell you a ticket to The Grindery...

Disneycation
The latest Issue of "Disney Adventures" has your standard "We like Pokémon too!" cover on it. Yippee. It also has part two of that comic in it. Sad really. [PAW]

Ice Blue: Nintendo cashing in on Disney by selling it's comics?  What will they do next?  Let Microsoft do PokéWindows 2000?
greyleaf: I'm a bit surprised it wasn't completely devoted to one of their movies.
Philip Wesley: Wouldn't it be funny if the next DA issue has ICP on the cover?.

August 20th - 21st, 1999
Quote of the Update: "Don't mind him.. he was abused by the Clefairy when he was younger."

Get ODD.
Hmm... the ODDISH and the newsletter are a big success... now with over 130 members... I may need to start making Jazzman work! he he he. The next Newsletter will be coming sooner than you think and longer than you wish. *Big Evil Smile* [PAW]

Ice Blue cringing: Newsletters... give me nothing but torment...
Philip Wesley: Well, Jazzman.. we'll just have to sign him up. Bwa ha ha! Oh, BMano is on the list. :)
Jazzman: Interesting... tell me about this 'work' that you speak of.

Master Ration.
Umm.. the list of unliscensed books and tapes on Pokémon grows even larger with the announcement of "Becoming A Master: The Ultimate Pokemon Experience" by Brentwood Home Video. It's a two-tape documentary featuring some nerdy sounding guy named Ernie Hudson. (The Rock?) It covers evolution, tips, tricks, etc. Although.. it can't be NEAR as interesting as the documentary three of my friends are going to be working on that investigates the "Knob Mew" legend from around here. In fact.. they're going to go into the State Park to film parts of it. I can only wish them luck on their "Knob Mew" project. Anyways, that "Becoming a Master" tape was released today. Yippee. [PAW]

Ice Blue: Me and Philip don't need that because we are masters already...
Philip Wesley: Oh, that guy is apparently from Ghost Busters... so he is now very cool.
Ben Stein: ...and here we see the mating ritual of the Pikachu...

GBCamera gets Mad.
Umm.. okay.. Mad Catz -designers of usually unliscensed game products like MEmory cards that don't work- has announced that they will make a PC link to allow GBCamera owners to send their photographs over the e-mail. Yippee. Let's see... we've been scanning stickers and using a Snappy and/or other devices to do this for months. Sigh. Oh, and IGN Pocket says that Ken Lobb confirmed that the Transfer Pak (For using GBC data in N64 games) will be shipped before Perfect Dark comes out. Sigh.. check our NEWS archives.. we all knew this last month. [PAW]

Jazzman: As if this doesn't happen all the time... Oh boy, this means everyone is going to be sending us pics of their ugly mugs.
Philip Wesley: Yeah.. I know... when we predict/announce something it ALWAYS happens. Hmm.. that "SNAP" section in Area DMG will grow more..Oh, check out this link! (Funny thing)

Demons! Gotta SLAY them all!
Revelations: The Demon Slayer has shipped. Expect to see it on the shelves of YOUR stores by the end of the week. :) Yippee! It's an RPG with elements from Pokémon.. but not as cute. Oh, it's part of the "Persona" series.. and it's worth checking out! [PAW]

Ice Blue: hmm... evilish...
Jazzman: *coughripoffcough* No, not really... I welcome any RPG's I can get my hands on. The GBC is starving for some new ones.

The EA has fallen.
Electronic Arts has started to develop Game Boy Color games.. bwa ha ha! The first game by EA for GBC will be WCW Mayhem this Fall. It will be released around the same time as the N64/PSX versions. But we don't care about those systems.. do we? ;) Anyways.. this also opens up the door for more EA sports titles and umm.. I wonder what could happen with the "Square" part of Square/EA... can you smell the rereleases? I can detect a faint aroma of FFL4.. but it's faint right now. Hmm.. maybe if we bug them enough.. they'll rerelease a game or two that NEEDS a GBC update. *cough Final Fantasy Adventure cough cough* [PAW]

Ice Blue: stop coughing... but I agree... more FF games should come to a Nintendo system...
Jazzman Fell. (Quote from FFA.)
*Insert various applause.*

Importationality
By The Voice in Philip Wesley's Socks.
- According to Nintendo of Japan. A service similar to the Nintendo Power device for the Super Famicom (Super NIntendo) will be available in Japan starting in November. This device will allow consumers to buy blank Game Boy
Color Only cartridges at "Lawson" stores for a nominal fee and then download games at the popular convience stores for use in those cartridges. (Also for a nominal fee) The first run of 21 games includes some older titles for the GBC like Link's Awakening DX, and Tetris DX. As well as some new ones like "Super Donkey Kong", and "Legend of  Zelda DX". I for one.. am a little annoyed by the fact that Super Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda DX have not been announced for sale over here in the states...
- That Legend of Zelda game that is part 1 of the 3 part "Mysterious Acorn" trilogy by Capcom/Nintendo.. will be out in Japan in OCTOBER. Now.. I'm steamed.... I want those games over here as well. And if they're out in Japan so soon.. Nintendo of America SHOULD be able to get them out over HERE by December. Anyways.. that trilogy of games has three parts and when you play other parts of the series.. you can effect the other parts as well. Don't ask me how.. just sit back and start bugging Nintendo to bring it out over here. Umm.. why not call 1-800-255-3700 and talk to a rep. Now ask about the game. Legend of Zelda: The Mysterious Acorn.. now mention that you are looking forward to that game and hope to see it in DECEMBER. If everyone calls in.. maybe Nintendo of America will get the hint.

Ice Blue: I have a feeling you like to bug people... Trav told me that 99% of the reps are super cool... why do you like to bug cool people?  Did you say Super Donkey Kong?
Ice Blue starts calling the reps and bugging them.
Jazzman: And while you're at it, tell them how stupid Rediba is... tell them that Foy loves them.

Daily Muk.
You know that "De-evo" spray? I was just thinking.. it could be used to purposefully faint your Pokémon in the CCG.. why? So you can stick a new Pokémon up without the retreat cost...

Quote of the Update: "Ash.. I have a confession.. that food I kept feeding Pikachu was soylent green." -The last words that Ash ever wanted to hear come from Brock.

Obvious.
Umm.. to reaffirm what I have said since the last E3.. Dragon Warrior Monsters is headed our way. Sigh.. it was on Babbages list so long ago.. and then it dissappeared for a while.. and FINALLY it's back on for December of this year. Merry Christmas to me. [PAW]
Jazzman: This news was here a long time ago. You should have known that. Pay attention!

So emotional.
Here.. we got a message from Adrock.

Hey guys, it's me, Adrock. Yeah. I've been missing for awhile now. I am lost. I am speaking with you via http://telepathy. I have managed to write two reviews during this time, Tarzan and R-Type DX, which are already on the site. How they got there is not for you to know. I'll just tell you that I have some secret hookups with the DMG Mafia who took care of things. So where am I? I'm not sure yet. It is very dark here except for the bright, flouresent !!EAGB's SECRET HIDEOUT!! sign in the front lawn. I have managed to get my feet unbound from the clever little game link rope they made, but not my hands yet. Expect me to be back around the time school starts for some of you. I may even pop up in the chat room sometimes too, very briefly.

(Yes, I know IRC #telepathy, too.) My life is kind of up in the air right now, so nothing is for certain... But I will be back soon, I promise. Peace out, y'all, and keep it "frenchy".
There you go. He lives. [PAW]

Jazzman: Yeah, right. But we still have to find him. Sign up for the Dmg Dispatch. The search continues.
Philip Wesley: AND The Oddish updated today...

Importationality
By An Immaculate Foy Follower.
- Hudson Soft of "Adventure Island" fame has announced "Bey Blade"; "Bey Blade" is a Sci-Fi RPG with a few elements similar to Pokémon and it has multi-player aspects as well. Nice.. we could use another RPG.
- Hmm... Dragon Quest 3 Super Famicom Remake is headed to Game Boy Color from Enix after the release of DQ 1 and 2 for GBC later this year. And we sit here in the states.. with not even DQ Monsters yet. *Insert really mad complaint*
- Umm.. not really import news.. but not article news... Time Loop is now called "Ballistic". That first name kinda sucked to begin with.
- Pretty tough references tonight... GG-Duo got the last ones.. again...
Jazzman crawls around the Dmg Ice offices on his hands and knees. "Need...new...R..P...G's.......ack!...."
Philip Wesley laughs a little and then sits down and plays Lunar.

Daily Muk.
You already know this.. but.. umm.. using lots of healing items makes Pikachu happy in Pokémon Yellow.

Quote of the Update: "And then.. Misty had enough."

Look out monsters!
Dragon Quest Monsters is coming to the USA.. and.. GASP! This June.. the sequel is set to hit Japan; according to Enix President Yasuhiro Fukushima and "Bloomberg Japan". That's cool. Very cool. Although.. that means that in Japan by July.. there will be a total of FOUR Dragon Quest games in Japan.. and only two here for GBC. -PAW-

Jazzman: The great God of portable RPGs has heard my prayers!
Infinity_Yak:  All I can say is it's about bleedin' time!

Siamese Dream.
A port of Jet Force Gemini for GBC has been mentioned by a buddy of mine at Nintendo.. it seems that Rare is not behind this GBC incarnation. But, according to the source.. Bit Studios will work on it and it will arrive next year. Weird. -PAW-

Jazzman: 10 bucks says it's going to run on the Mega Man engine.
Philip Wesley already runs on the Andrew Vestal engine with aspects of the Spekkio webmaster engine. And thankfully.. very little of the Conrad engine. ;)
Infinity_Yak:  Pure Turbonium.

Slow news.. so.. here's some non-news!
Umm.. to the people in parts of Florida and the Bahamas.. stay indoors, stock up on bleach.. and batteries for you r Game Boy Colors.. because those storms are headed that direction. Our prayers are with you and I hope nothing gets damaged by the tropical storms "Emily, Dennis, and Cindy". 'Kay? I just wanted to mention that.. because I know girls by those names.. Cindy was a little chubby.. but she's cool because we talk at the same level and I think that conversation is cool. Dennis still works where I work.. and she gives me hugs everyday... and Emily.. well.. she sat behind me in Art class a year or so back.. and umm.. I got hugs from her too. Anyways.. this article is here to fill up space. :) -PAW-
Jazzman: <insert long, witty comment to take up space here.>
Infinity_Yak:  <Ditto>

- Let's see.. Japan will have at the end of the year in Japan.. THREE new Legend of Zelda games. (Mysterious Acorn (Power Chapter), Legend of Zelda DX, and Legend of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link DX.) And they will have another Dragon Quest game. (Dragon Quest 1 & 2.) Sigh..
- What's this? According to a worker for Square.. Square is now looking at the GBC again. Why? because of Enix. You see.. Enix and Square are "rivals".

Jazzman moves to Japan.
Announcer: Aaaaand, in this corner, we have Squaresoft, powered by the Final Fantasy series! And in this corner, we have Enix, powered by the Dragonquest series!
Philip Wesley: Wonders where Working Designs is..
Infinity_Yak:  Ahhh, the witty rivalries continue...

Quote of the Update: "Somewhat expedient."

Evaporated.
Okay.. here's the deal.. tommorrow.. the site may be down for a little while early in the morning. Yup.. "Down".. you heard me. Basically.. the T-whatever they are computers this site is on our being moved down the street to a new building. 'Kay? Got that? So.. for about two to three hours tommorrow.. umm. we won't be here. Hey.. it happens to everyone. (Unless you're on one of those free servers like Geocities or Tripod.. where instead of moving comps.. they just delete you.) Anyways.. we'll be "away" for a little while tommorrow morning. 'Kay? Got that? Oh.. the old Chat Room will still be up as well as the BBS. I will be using that "down time" to sleep because it is set to take place at a time where I am not even awake. No data will be lost; because.. *gasp* no data is being "moved" just the big computers. Basically.. they unplug the suckers and then move them to another building via slave labor. And... umm.. this time.. I found a very cool album to stump everyone.. can you guess these references? Or do you fold? -PAW-

Jazzman: Hey! You dropped a computer!... Oh... nevermind, that's just the Dmg Ice one.
Philip Wesley fainted!

Brick.
Any one say "Excitebike"? You didn't? You thought Motocross Manicas 1 and 2 was enough? Bah.. sad mortal. Nintendo has announced that they are working on an Excitebike game for Game Boy Color. The game will be a port of the NES one with "extras".... as in extra levels, and a new type of point system that can be used with the N64 Excitebike ala Transfer Pak. (Just like Tetris DX, Pokémon, and Mario Golf GB do.) -PAW-

Jazzman: Modurn tecnowlagy

The Battle of who could care less.
The Top Ten Bestselling Portable titles from August 8th to 14th, 1999 according to the NPD is as follows.

1. POKEMON PINBALL
2. POKEMON BLUE
3. POKEMON RED
4. SUPER MARIO BROS. DX
5. THE RUGRATS MOVIE
6. ZELDA:LINKS AWAKENING
7. DISNEY'S TARZAN
8. WARIO LAND 2
9. TETRIS DELUXE
10. GAME & WATCH GALLERY2

Well.. isn't this a healthy dose of "what the Hell?!". Tarzan and Rugrats continue to sell well based on their names despite the fact that games like Spy Vs. Spy and Power Quest are infinitely superior. Sigh. -PAW-

Jazzman: Where's R-Type? Where's Spy vs Spy? Where's Slugfest? sigh...

Missing the War.
Okay.. that Pink Bulldog and that Blue Mouse Pokémon are -for the last time- NOT Bruno or Pikablu. Get over it. Nintendo has announced their names. Thanks go to Charizard 2000 for spotting this. Here's the quote: "Meet Snubble, who might be a pink bulldog, and Marril, who might be a mouse or a balloon. " Nifty.. with names like Snubble, and Marril... FOY isn't too farfetched an idea. :) -PAW-
"Floffy?"

Jazzman: Rediba... bleck...
Philip Wesley: Rightly put.

-August 27th, 1999-
Deltona Wolves 48, Tavares Bulldogs 12!
That's for Beefy_B.. one of the Wolves.. -PAW-

Spaced Out.
Okay... here's a link to Nintendo's report on Space World 1999. Check out the pictures from the floor of Pokémon 2. That winged Pokémon with the long neck that looks like a cross between a snake and a bird is that really big pokémon that I told you about.. and it looks like it could eat Mewtwo for breakfast. Goodness knows what that thing could do. I can't wait to catch that beast. Bwa ha ha ha ha! Cool. Umm... tonight is "Helpless Victim Night". basically.. I grab a quest commentator from #blue or from ICQ and they get to post a comment or two on the news. -PAW-
"See Dan run!"

Ice Blue: me first again... grrr...
Adrock: The Gold and Silver boxes look cool. I want so bad to be at Spaceworld.
Philip Wesley: That can be arranged... bring me the Staff Cannon!
TheToadWarrior: Pokémon 2 is fine and all but how about a series featuring Pikachu. Let's face it, they don't want to wear out Pokémon's gameplay formula too fast and a Pikachu game would sell like crazy.
DogmeowTR: I ate a Pikachu yesterday, now I understand why everyone likes him.

To the Theatres!
Umm.. here's two movies that Nintendo released of Pokémon 2 and the new Legend of Zelda game.. unfortunately.. they are small, grainy, and have no sound. But.. hey! You can see a lot from them. You see Foy in action.. okay.. just a little. And the Legend of Zelda one shows you the whole bit with the seasons and also shows us an updated version of Gleeok as well as some *gasp*  things that look like Goriya. You know.. the rat devil creatures with the boomerangs. It also shows the solution to some of the puzzles and the differences between the season maps. The movies are about 1 megabyte each. It's hard to wade through the Japanese site.. and deathly slow to download from there.. so I stuck them here. But... if you feel like it.. you can try downloading them straight from Nintendo of Japan.. although.. that will take longer. These are "MOV" files. 'Kay? Ya need Quicktime or something for it. :) -PAW-
"Pokémon Movie.."
"Legend of Zelda Movie"
"Nintendo's source page"

Ice Blue: Our server is no speed demon either... so don't expect a FAST download like you would get from somewhere like Adobe...
Jazzman puts his Game Boy up to his computer screen to make it look like he's playing the games.
Philip Wesley: I printed out a picture of the GBC and pretended to play it for a while until the real deal came out. Sigh.. our server is faster than a lot of servers... and it got upgraded this morning.
TheToadWarrior: I give them a thumbs up! Hudson still has the most entertaining quicktimes. Check out www.hudson.co.jp but it'll take forever if can't read Japanese.
DogmeowTR: I like cheese.

Replacement Killers.
Okay.. Nintendo commented on the next generation of Game Boy hardware. It will be called "Game Boy 2" and be "32-bit" and "4 times more powerful" than Game Boy Color and will be compatible with Nintendo's Cell Phone gadget. My take on this? I could care less for a replacement. Especially with the GBC being so successful now. if they do replace it.. I can assure you that we won't see this "Game Boy 2" in stores until maybe 2001. Besides.. unless it's backwards compatible.. what's the point? -PAW-

Ice Blue: I wonder where you got this news... ;) I know someone that's pissed at Nintendo for doing this...
Jazzman: I hear that it's not backwards compatible :( ... but Miyamoto is working on it :)
Adrock: Well, think about it. Game Boy has been around for a very long time. There is just so far a system can be stretched before it has to be replaced.
TheToadWarrior: Forget backwards compatibility, I want a wireless modem and if possible, naked chicks.
DogmeowTR: 32-bit, wouldn't that raise it at the same level as the original Nintendo?, and if that is so, I already have two Game Boy 2's!!! anyone want a taste of the future? it'll cost ya 200.00.

Importationality
Done.. well done.
- Beatmania 2 is set to hit in Japan this winter with new songs and new stuff for the GBC. Yippee! Beatmania GB games are like the ultimate imports.
- Another Goeman game for the Game Boy Color in Japan is coming out.. yippee again.
- Bomberman's latest action game will have a "Light version" and a "Dark Version". You can train and create your own "Bomberman" people .. kinda like Bomberman 64.. and trade them between the paks. Nice.. I hope it comes out over here.. I like making my own Bombermen.

Ice Blue: Goeman rules...
Jazzman: nuts... I like my importantionality medium rare.
Adrock: I remember that Hanson Bomberman I made...
Philip Wesley: Let us not get into that subject. :)
TheToadWarrior: Beatmania 2, isn't that the new George Micheal game? ;)
DogmeowTR laughs so hard he falls off of his chair and into a nearby lake.

Quote of the Update: "There. Are you happy?"
Gotcha!!
Okay.. if you are "burning", "seething", "feeling betrayed", etc... don't be.. that last lay-out was an "inside" joke. But! If you wanna make a top graphic.. download the template below that is in BMP format.. and send it in to my nice, friendly, non harmfully blissful "wwesley@internetland.net" e-mail as a BMP attachment. 'Kay? I might use it sometime. :) -PAW-
"Be that!"

That Spoony Bug.
You know.. I'm surprised Magikarp didn't make this list.. but at least IT can attack later on. Anyways, The Gaming Intelligence Agency has a special poll going on "Who's the most useless RPG character". Well, Kakuna was nominated.. but do everyone a favor and vote for Pokey or Cait sith. Mmkay? Oh, did I also mention that they have some excellent Space World coverage? Here's some links. -PAW-
"Kakuna shouldn't win.."
"That hole on Broadway. "

Adrock: At least Picky actually HIT the enemy...
Ice Blue: Magikarp can attack with tackle... but I think the most useless are those ones you never use like Magmar and Magnemite...
Jazzman: Next they'll have the most useless game companies... THQ... Toho...
Infinity_Yak: Betcha Majesco would be on that list ;)
Philip Wesley: I nominate Disney Interactive.

There is no news..
School is starting and some of my staff members will have a little less time on their hands. The summer has been great; but it's time for a lot of our readers and staff to reprioratize. So.. I have given everyone a little bit of a poem from Robert Herrick. Here you go.

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tommorrow will be dying."

Okay.. that's not news.. but it's something to think about.. don't waste your time worrying, and enjoy what you have. There we go.. I filled up some space and now I feel like Robin Williams. -PAW-

Infinity_Yak: I have to go to school tomorrow... but school doesn't  "Start" for me until next tuesday.  Confusing?  Yes, yes it is.

Daily Muk
It's a little known fact that some Pokémon have some crazy names in Japan. Okay.. you knew that? well.. here's one.. in Japan... Jigglypuff is called "Purin".. which means.. "Pudding". Squirtle is "Zenigame" which means "Small Jug".

Do this at your OWN risk. 'Kay? Why couldn't Nintendo of America be this generous? -PAW-

Ice Blue: That's cool but what if you never get it back and you see a LOT of "new" packages of Pokémon in your nearest video game dealer soon after?
Infinity_Yak:  The world would be a lot better if pokemon just ceased to exist.  This might solve the problem in Australia.
Philip Wesley: But.. if Pokémon didn't exist.. everywhere.. would be Furby...
Jazzman: I can't believe I'm saying this... but I'd rather use a gameshark than send my pokemon to another country.

Run, Baby, Run.
Nintendo makes some gratuitous Beastie Boy references and puts up a preview/review of Chase H.Q. for GBC. Go see.
"Have some fun."

Ice Blue: Oh my God, it's a mirage!!  I'm tellin' y'all it's SABOTAGE!!
Infinity_Yak: Intergalactic planetary, planetary intergalatic...

Importationality
Done by a wigging Wallaby
- Lucky Aussies. They get Pokémon Yellow is September. Of course.. the version they get isn't like the US version.. it doesn't have that special "enchancment" that makes the game display Super Game Boy colors on the Game boy Color.
- A TON of people got last weeks album references. Raquia, GG-Duo, tons of people.. too many to list. :( But.. he he he.. these ones are HARDER!

Ice Blue: That has nothing to do with Importing unless you are REALLY impatient... or if you live in the Outback...
Infinity_Yak: Read my first comment tonight to see my opinion on this wonderful pokemon news ;)
Jazzman: I don't like the way pokemon red/blue looks on GBC... I can wait for the color.
Philip Wesley: Here ya go. "Look! A link!"
