August Updates: 1 through 6

August 31st, 2004 - September 2nd, 2004 - On an island in the sun.
Just felt like I should mention one of the newest features of the upcoming Leaf Green/Fire Red Pokemon games: An island chain. The games feature an island chain known as the Sevii Islands. The islands have special events on them as well as the ability to catch certain Johto Pokemon. The islands are as follows.

Birth Island (ONLY accessible with an Aurora Ticket - Capture Deoxys here!)
Boon ISland
Chrono Island
Floe Island
Fortune Island
Kin ISland
Knot Island
Navel Island (Only accessible with a Mystery Ticket - Capture Lugia/Ho oh here!)
Quest Island

Navel and Birth Islands are accessible by getting the tickets from scanning a special Pokemon E-Card. Nintendo passes out those cards. I suggest you track down an e-card reader! This is exactly like the Eon Tickets Nintendo handed out at E3 2003 and in Nintendo Power.

Oh, Fable for the XBox is apparently beatable in 9 hours. About 22 to 24 hours if you do all the side-quests in the game. That said, I have clocked more time than 9 hours into Mega Man & Bass. I know I've clocked more than 40 hours into Mario Golf Advance Tour. That says something about console games. Maybe they do not have as much GAME as they used to. I know I have clocked in somewhere around 100+ on Pokemon Ruby. That says something. Wonder what it is? Hint: Portable Gamers get more play for less cash. We are pimping.

We also pimp awesome for cheaper as the Game Boy Advance SP -as of Friday- will be ONLY $79.99 Go collect a few. There are four standard colors and a few special editions floating around: Collect them all! Nothing says pimping like a stack of GBA SPs.

Speaking of stacks, I have one over here with stuff I was finishing up just for you! But before we go to that: NOkia has announced that they have shipped 1 million N-Gage units. The key word is SHIPPED and that is the opposite of SOLD. Do not confuse the two terms. Now to get to the stack of stuff!
April's DMG Diva finally done.
S.A.R.S. review of The Passion of the Christ.
There shall be more later. For now, I run away! Oh, wait. Famitsu mentioned that a new Yoshi game is being made. Yoshi's Universal Gravitation is the translated name of this game. Will it use the tilting technology? Who knows. I do know one thing though! Zell Miller completely floored me. Best speech I have heard since Reggie at Nintendo's E3 press conference. Comment? -PAW-

August 24th, 2004 - The one where we got eaten by SHARKS.
The rumblings are there, so get ready! The news is swift and vicious in this update! First off Super Mario Pinball Land (Super Mario Ball in Japan) got a grand total of 29 out 0f 40 from Famitsu. That seems to be a low score; but considering only two games scored 30 or above this issue of Famitsu: Don't think badly of the game for it. I found Super Mario Pinball Land to be quite fun at E3. So, do not hesitate to pick it up later this year when it hits shelves in the US of A. Media Create's Japanese sales numbers for the week of August 9 through 15th, 2004 are up. Game Boy Advance SP won again by selling 19,828 more units than the Sony Play Station 2 or 66,662 more units than the Microsoft XBox. Here are top five unit sellers for that week in Japan.

1. Game Boy Advance SP - 67,091
2. Play Station 2 -      47,263
3. Game Cube -           11,558
4. Game Boy Advance -     3,708
5. XBox -                   429

Hey! If we combine the totals for the GBA and the GBA SP, we get a combine total of 70,779 units total. Considering that Nintendo stopped production of the original version Game Boy Advance to make room for the Nintendo DS manufacturing plans, the sales figures are fairly impressive.

Metrowerks released a press release stating that they developed the official development suite kits for the Nintendo DS. That is pretty cool news; but the best part of the news is that they sent out the development kits for the DS to over 100 developers a long time ago. That seems to be a radical difference to Sony's PSP development suite kits which have yet to mailed to a long list of developers. In fact, some major companies have yet to recieve theirs. Including some that have already announced titles. According to comments made from Activision, the PSP may be launched in the USA in Quarter 2, 2005. That would place it's launch AFTER E3 2005. Ouch. Activision's CEO also said he expects it to NOT make a 2004 Japanese Launch. This is being fueled by frustration over lack of details on battery life, major companies like Activision, Capcom, and Konami not receiving PSP Dev Kits at all or getting them LATE, no word on pricing points, no word on the online service for the device, and no word on movie/music distribution on the system. Oh, well.

All that good and bad news is trumped by this new piece of facts! The PSP will only be ONE color: Black; but Nintendo said they will launch the Nintendo DS in at least three different colors at launch. Some of those colors are expected to tag along at Nintendo's Fusion Tour Event. Even if you hate Story of the Year, go for the Nintendo DS. It compels you.

Well, it appears that the next NES Classics will be just those four games: The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, Metroid, Castlevania, and Dr. Mario. Well, before you get sad and upset, Nintendo of Japan said that consumer demand for their Famicom Classics line could cause more to be released. This bodes well for the United States of America. If Nintendo decided to release new NES Classic titles every few monthes in installments of four at a time: Would you support them? I would. I suggest that people pick up the upcoming four games. Make the NES Classics line a success and keep writing into Nintendo about how much you like it. They do respond well to written letter demands. Just make sure you say please. That said, expect a third line of NES Classics in early 2005. Expect details on it to pop up around December.

Not updating on Friday and Monday left a lot for me to do. Well, the reviews page has been revamped. Umm.. three new reviews. 1 for Sars, 2 for the main reviews section as well as a consolidation page for all three major reviews sections. Suki Nihon will get new reviews very soon. Comment? -PAW-

August 17th and 18th, 2004 - The one where we tell you the ending.
The big twist ending is that the events of the first game were all part of a test simulation and that half way through the game, Freeman is replaced as the main character by a thin, sickly person who hosts a show called "Raiden Eye for that Snake Guy" in his spare time. The next two games in the series will be called: "Half-Life 3: Nacho Eater" and the card battle game "Half-Life Acid Reflux." That said, let us get to the news! If you happen to be in Florida and aren't illegally modifying voting machines for the DNC, picking up pieces of other peoples stuff for sale on EBay, or helping Moore film a documentary on how natural storms are all Haliburton's fault; than I suggest going to the Pokemon Rocks America event!

Here's the WHERE:
Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa (Outside of Walt Disney World Resort)
1900 Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Here's the WHEN: Saturday August 21, 2004 from 10am to 4PM.

Here's the WHAT'S THERE: There will be a Pokemon Gamer's Den with previews of Red Fire/Leaf Green, as well as showcases of the older games. There will be games like a Freeze Dance, Theme Song Karokemon Competition, and a Trivia Challenge. There will be a clinics that explain all you need to know about the games and the franchise as well as appearences by the Pikachu Volkswagons, and various live Pokemon characters. There is also a Water Pokemon Themed Misting Tent for if this makes you extremely hot and bothered. Nintendo will also be bringing products from the Pokemon Center in New York for sale at the event. It runs in conjunction with the Pokemon World Championships 2004 that will be taking place August 20th through the 22 inside the Walt Disney World Resort. The championship has to do with the card games and on the 21st and 22nd, various card artists such as: Ms. Midori Harada, Mr. Takumi Akabane, Mr. Mitsuhiro Arita, and Mr. Ken Sugimori will be there signing cards for the fans.

I guess Pokemon ISN'T a dead franchise. The latest movie -which chronicles Ash's adventures versus Deoxys versus Rayquaza- has reeled in more than 25 Millllllllion Dollars (translated from the Yen) and is fourth on the Japanese charts, beating out lots of stuff. We will see that one here around January in a direct to video release that preps us up for Emerald's US debut a little after E3 2005. On domestic news: August 28th, 2004 is a Toys "R" Us special Pokemon Fun Day. Go pick up a few free goodies and learn to play the CCG at Toys "R" Us. There will be free stickers, a free battle mat, and a free fan magazine at participating Toy "R" Us stores. On a neater note, Volumes 3 and 4 of the Pokemon are coming to a GBA near you. Volume 3 has "Pokemon, I choose you!" and "Here comes the Squirtle Squad." The first episode being the very first Pokemon episode ever. Volume 4 contains "Beach Blank-out Blastoise" and "Go West Young Meowth." In the Meowth episode, we get Meowth's tragic back story and he SINGS. It's cool though. Really.

Speaking of Franchises that never end: Capcom is expected to reveal new details on Mega Man EXE (Battle Network) 5 next month in CoroCoro Magazine. Wow. This brings the amount of Mega Man games on the Game Boy systems to about 20. Why? Because Mega Man is neat. Also neat! SNK USA just relaunched their website. Go check the details on Metal Slug Advance and anticipate it like I anticipate it. You know, by offering sacrifices of CT Special Forces game paks to the great SNK altar. Comment? -PAW-

August 16th, 2004 - The one where Philip did a Viral Speak.
That says it all, folks! Comment? -PAW-

August 13th, 2004 - The one where we do damage control.
If people have not already gotten the continued references for this month, pity on them. Anyhow, new details have emerged on things!

1. Nanostray from Majesco is a DS game you NEED. It's developed by Shin'en (Developers of the pretty but dumb Iridion 3D and the pretty and brilliant Iridion II) and it is a Space Shooter game. It has two player Lan multi-player, ten complete levels of shooter action, and you can post internet high scores on the internet. Neat. I could bet you money that the music in Nanostray will ROCK in a HEAVY way. It comes out early 2005.

2. Nintendo DS before Thanksgiving says Nintendo. "Good." says I.

3. Rare is -again- on the radar for making more -more- insinuations about -this time- Killer Instinct on GBA. I find Rare to be a company that I hate for their "Stamperism" style of games; but I love for their cheekiness. Oh, they reformated DK's Coconut Crackers into "It's Mr. Pants!" Despite the quirky new paint, it's still the old game I thought SUCKED at E3 2001. I hope they fixed it a bit more. Oh, Banjo Pilot may also have a tilt sensor in it. Diddy Kong Pilot did. You could control the plane by tilting the GBA to the left or right. It was akward and USELESS in DK Pilot. I hope they dropped that feature from Banjo Pilot.

4. Philip is 24. That is mathematically ONE day; if you pretend years are hours. He has a new chair. It is great.

5. Apparently -dependant on size- DS cartridges cost 30 to 70% LESS to make than Game Boy Advance cartridges. And on a side note of the DS: If this is still unclear to you, I'll write up a Philip Rational to help explain it to you at a later date. I think Reggie speaks for himself though.

6. Seems to be that some websites are reporting that the next wave of NES Classics is coming out October 25th, 2004 and will feature Metroid, The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, Castlevania, and Dr. Mario. YET, Nintendo has said nothing on this and even their PR firm Golin/Harris is mum on it. So, I would take it with salt. While, I would still BUY all of those games, it seems that there should be FOUR MORE of those games. That said, enjoy it with salt. Just like Hillary Duff, this story is "developing." And that's the end of this news article. Comment? -PAW-

August 10th, 2004 - The one where we give you some terrible thrills.
Well, I was looking for news and I figured: Ah, Hell. Did I forget to show you guys something? Well, lemme tell you a little about the Bandai game "Legends." Legends won a 30 (Silver) in Famitsu back in July and is an RPG with unusual compatability. It features compatability with "Monster Souls" that can be purchased seperately. You can buy a "Crystal Wand" device that lets you put little monster data cards in it and play with them in a Digimon-style way. Then you can take the monster data cards out of your Crystal Wand and put them into your Game Boy Advance via a small Crystal Base device that links to the GBA. Well, here's a picture of what I mean. The game looks cool and it was made by Bandai. Will we see it here? Probably not; but it does look cool!

Oh, another Rare employee hinted at working on DS games and Microsoft quickly denied it AGAIN. That happens a lot.

Not ANOTHER freaking LIST. Well, Nintendo of America announced a Third Party list of games that will be coming out in the United States for the Nintendo DS. About 60 games in all. These are games that WILL COME OUT in the United States. There's more games than this coming out for the system; but this is what they have chosen to announce. See the list with comments below.

Atari, Inc
Atari Classics - Well, I love Retro games, don't you? Anyways, the thought is nice and I hope it's a budget title.

Atlus USA
Caduceus - That gross surgery game is coming out over here. Yay!?
Snowboard Kids DS - Ah. Bliss. Yup!
3 additional and unnamed titles - Well, Persona/Revelations of course. What else...

Konami Digital Entertainment
Boktai (working title) - There we go. Confirmed goodness. Worship the sun.
Castlevania (working title) - Well, DUH. Do you truly think they would have left this in Japan? Let's hope it's not 3D.
Dragon Booster (working title) - This is why you should buy "THE CLUB for Dragons" and avoid the whole hassle. After spending so much on the spinning dragon rims, you don't want your dragon boosted.
Frogger 2005 (working title) - Frogger moves any way that he can and now you can touch Frogger any way that you can. Except that way, it's an E rated game.
Survival Kids (working title) - Confirmationgasm. There's nothing more to say.
World Soccer Winning Eleven series (working title) - The OTHER Football gets represented here.
Vandal Hearts (working titles) - Tactical Strategy RPG. Gamespot compared the first one to Suikoden. Gamespot is frequently compared to Avian Flu.
WINX (working title) - Ah! That game! Wow! I have no idea what this is.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour - Foxlord is ready and waiting to spend his money on this game. He's so happy you can feel his joy.

Majesco
Moonlight Fables - Oh, PLEASE be an RPG? I mean, with a sexy name like that. BE AN RPG!
Nanostray - Remember to spay and nueter your Nanos.
Plus at least three additional titles in development - Dear Majesco, shake Shinen vigorously until they decide to give us an Iridion DS title, please. Iridion 2 was really cool and I want another.

Namco Hometek Inc.
New Mr. Driller (working title) - That's what she said!
Pac 'n Roll (working title) - Shouldn't this be combined with the game below it?
Pac-Pix (working title) - See the above description.

Orbital Media
Unnamed Action Platformer - Neat.
Unnamed Strategy Roleplaying game - Neat too!
Unnamed Combat Racing game - Nice.
Unnamed Family Game - Ah! Shotgun tag! Or not?

SEGA of America, Inc.
Project Rub (working title) - Sega's Fighting Vipers Porno game. What?

A new story of Slime Morimori Dragon Quest - So, when are we getting the FIRST one over here, hmmm?
Dragon Quest Monsters series - I like this series.
Egg Monster Heroes - Gather your monsters! Gather! Gather!

Summitsoft Corporation
Air Assault 2 - Somewhere, someone is sad they decided to be Goose.
Organizer Plus - Oh, yes! This is what I'm, talking about! If it sends actual e-mail, I'll be buying it the DAY it comes out. This is sweet. This is sweet indeed.

Tecmo, Inc.
Monster Rancher - The less popular cousin of Monster Breeder. Succubus. Uh huh.
Plus one additional title in development - Team Ninja's Dead or Alive Massage Parlor is this much closer to becoming real. Well, we can all pretend it is.

Telegames, Inc.
Ultimate Brain Games - Buy it.
Ultimate Card Games - Buy it too.
Ultimate Pocket Games - Dunno, what's a Pocket Game, baby?

THQ
SpongeBob SquarePants The Movie - Spongebob and Patrick search to find Mr. Krabs. I can point them to a few bars and co-workers.
Plus five additional titles in development - Lemme see: I expect two of these to be Nickelodeon related and the others to be related to their illustrious amount of licenses. See how precise we are?

Ubisoft Entertainment
Asphalt GT - Racer AND a good snack.
Rayman - Limbless Lum Lover Looks Livid. More details later.
Plus additional titles in development, including a major movie license for early 2005 - Well, unless they pull Revenge of the Sith out of nowhere, there's few really good things to choose from. I mean, there's a Winnie the Pooh Movie, a XXX sequel without Vin Diesel (The jerk), Miss Congeniality 2, and other junk. Hey, later next year is an Aeon Flux movie; but who knows?

Vivendi Universal Games
Robots - The movie based game based on the movie by the people who made Ice Age. It has robots in it and it will probably be pretty funny and underappreciated.

That appears to be very good news for all of us. And in the continuation of good news, the creator of this site turns 24 on August 12th. Wow, he's OLD. Comment? -PAW-
