April 13/2005 - Easy to Ignore
QOTU: "So. Pomeranians are delicious anyways." Today, Activision had a few game titles leaked by EB Games. The games leaked are as follows.
- PAINTBALL 06 MAX'D for the GBA
- Shrek Super Slam for the GBA & DS
- Wac-A-Mole for the Nintendo DS.
What are these games? Well, one looks to
be a Shrek title with that green ogre in it. Considering that Shrek 3
is supposedly already in production, it makes sense. Paintball is a
shooting game and Wac-A-Mole? Only God knows what that could be. The
game is apparently $29.99 as well. So, it could be a budget title. I
switched sides, whatcha think? Also, to demonstrate my awesome powers,
I have changed the top graphic and color. FEAR ME! -PAW- |
April 12/2005 - Melting Alone
QOTU: "Change. BAD! Redundancy. GOOD! And there we have it."
How is the news? Lightly boring! But you do have a brand new S.S.U.
to obsess over! I guess I should explain that I slightly altered the
main page. But, I figured everyone noticed. The idea is to make the
website's main page match more of the website. In other words,
consistentancy for everyone! I also intend to convert our older newsity
into PDF in the future as I make everything "conform" to this standard.
The reason for the PDF switch would be security, and space saving. The
only thing I dislike about this new look is that I still hate the ad
banner. But, eh. What can I say? Please comment in Viral Speak about
what you think of the change. This *should* fix those weird spacing
problems that Windows IE users were getting. If it does not, please
change your browser to something that does not suck. While larger
screen resolution users will lost in get endless BLUE, I don't mind. Will this site still load quickly? *checks*It
should. I can change that color every single month if I like, at
WHIM. The Dancing Virii and Plymouth? The Virii dance upon the outside
links! Yes they dance! Scroll down and see. Oh, do try out that Viral
Speak Box. It works. At least it should. Anyhow, it will be under
the most recent Newsity entry. So, COMMENT! Like
it? Gimme a treat? Woof! Woof! Enjoy! -PAW-

April 11/2005 - A Million Parachutes
QOTU: "Tonight, it seems like ages ago."
Is there much
news running around recently? Yes and no. The big announcements are
usually about the Xbox 360, or the PS3. I cover HANDHELD games. Anyhow,
SSX4 was recently announced for all three home consoles, the Nintendo
DS and the PSP. In this game you can ski as well as snowboard and all
versions are set to have a Create a Character option. SSX4 will be out
this winter apparently, from EA. Oh, EA bought up the rights to College
Football. Resume not caring anytime now. Konami recently acquired
Hudson Soft. Thus, Bomberman is now a Konami property. Interesting.
Maybe Konami will bring back Adventure Island? I would not mind that at
all. Konami owns 54% of the ailing company. Should be interesting to
see what happens now. Other than that, one new review. Go get it! -PAW- | April 6,7,8/2005 - Bouquet
QOTU: "Life can be solved by trapping enemies in bubbles."
I discovered that Yoshi's Touch
N Go is indeed addictive. So, no reviews made it up. Sorry. In other
news though, a bit about Viewtiful Joe for the DS was announced. It
will have a weird new SPLIT! effect where you can draw a line on the
screen to slice on-screen objects in half. Other than that, it's all
the Viewtiful Joe we love and know. The top screen is used for
close-ups of the action and for displaying "hints" at what to split. I
wonder if that can be turned off.
Now for SALES DATA! The
Nintendo DS was the top selling system last time, but this time is
different. Who knocked the DS out of the top spot? The power of Tekken
5 has propelled the PS2 to the top spot, narrowly knocking out the Dual
Screen Duelist.
The sales for March 28 to April 3, 2005
PS2 = 44,117 (UP 3,719)
DS = 43,023 (DOWN 13,802)
PSP = 33,911 (DOWN 9,132)
GBA SP = 17,710 (UP 2,086
GameCube = 3,754 (DOWN 814)
GBA = 1,074 (UP 421)
Xbox = 335 (DOWN 71)
This data is provided by Media Create.
Kirby kept onto spot #3 while Tekken 5 enjoyed spot #1 in software
sales. Tekken 5 is new this week and has some fairly strong sales. The
next chart from Media Create should include ElectroPlankton. I am
interested in seeing how that sells. The PS2 beat the Nintendo DS in
sales by 1,094 units. The Nintendo DS clocked the PSP by only 9,112
units. 16,201 units separated the PSP from the GBA SP. Total handheld
sales for that week are as follows.
Nintendo = 60,807
Sony = 33,911
TOTALS = 94,718
Nintendo still holds steady at owning about 60.4% of the handheld market in Japan. Well, that is about it for now! -PAW- |
April 04 - 06/2005 - Spotlight
QOTU: "I'll just gnaw on this hand Nintendo sent me. It helps to pass the time."
Well, last month was a
MONTH of Foreigner References. This month, the references are easier.
So, here is some news for those who read us on a regular basis!
1. New columns from Hbomb and Don.
2. Nintendo Power made my day by excluding an * next to the US name for
Another Code. The latest Nintendo Power Issue had a list of games that
were coming out for the Nintendo DS. The list had an asterisk by each game NOT
CURRENTLY SLATED for US release. Another Code was one of the games that did not have an asterisk beside it.. It
also had a specific highlight on it and a picture of Ashley. While
everyone raved on about Katamari Damacy and all the other new games,
Another Code was quietly confirmed.
3. Midway is set to announce about TEN DS titles at E3. So far, the
names being tossed around are ports of Wipeout 64, Spy Hunter 2, and
Gauntlet Legends: Dark Legacy. Arcade Treasures games, a Mortal Kombat
game, and other titles are expected. We'll see at E3.
4. Nintendo is set to announce 10 new GBA games at E3 for release later
this year. One of which is F-Zero 3, also it looks like Nintendo will
be publishing Tales of Phantasia for GBA themselves. Awaiting
confirmation on that myself, but considering Nintendo is publishing
Soul Calibur for DS themselves, it looks like that will happen.
Quick side note for those who want to know, the April Fools jokes
were the bit about Atlus and the bit about Majesco. Although, the
Majesco one is grounded in a few interesting facts. The DS sales data
is completely true. It also makes me wonder a bit on what games like
NINTENDOGS, Electroplankton, and future titles like Pokemon
Diamond/Pearl will do to the DS sales in Japan. If two new color
variations do that for the unit, than the PSP does not have as strong a
grip as Sony thinks. It looks like the online play in Diamond/Pearl,
and solid games like Final Fantasy 3 could be enough to keep the
Nintendo DS a high profile system in Japan for a long time. Oh, umm..
online play in Pearl/Diamond.. umm.. you didn't read that. That's it,
there's begging, and THIS is silly. Later people! -PAW- | April 01/2005 - Drifting
QOTU: "These Forks be Grand."
Well, it's a Thursday through Saturday update. Gonna add the reviews in a bit. But first, a new Philip Rational.
Yup. As for news? Nintendo has a contest going on and I had to enter
it. They give you a free HAND jobbie thingie. I mean, wow. Is that not cool or what? A
FREE HAND! It can do all sorts of hand things with its fingers. You can
use the fingers to touch, pet, poke, probe, and generally explore...
items, places, people, pets, and food. Thank you, Nintendo. Touching IS
good. Thankfully for everyone, there is good news and unusual news too!
The latest (21-27th of March) Media Create sales data places
Kirby's new DS game in the #3 position at 75,365 units sold. Also out
is Egg Monster Hero at #6 and Harvest Moon continues to sell well at
#9. The two new colors of the DS also debuted this last week and that
has done something to sales of DS units in Japan. The GBA had no top
ten game titles. Here are the portables in terms of sales. I have
combined the GBA and GBA SP unit sales.
1. DS - 55,825
2. PSP - 43,043
3. GBA&SP - 15,557
Not bad, that makes that weeks handheld sales.
1. Nintendo - 71,382
2. Sony - 43,043
Total Handheld Systems sold that week = 114,425
Using rough math, meaning sleepy math and a calculator, Nintendo owns
62% of the handheld market and Sony owns 38% of the handheld market in
Japan. Of course that is of total sold units, for that week. Yes,
Nintendo is "losing" soooo badly that you must sign up for this to console me for my sadness.
Cheer up though, Atlus has revealed SBK, a BRAND NEW -not a port- version of Snowboard Kids with new and old tracks, plus new and old characters. The new look is much sleeker and more "Maria Bogner"
meets Snowboarding meets Anime than the big noses of the past. The
current name being thrown for the new game is SBK: eXpresseD. Also
considered is SBK: thunDer Summit and SBK: Deep froSt. One of the
interesting things right now is that there are a grand total of three
hidden characters to unlock that are NOT from Atlus. We've all seen
Cloud in Final Fantasy 7 Snowboarding
for mobile phones, and Atlus has secured permission from SquareEnix to
use Yuna, a Moogle, and Sephiroth in SBK for the Nintendo DS. They will
be redrawn to match the style used in SBK. Sadly, no Cloud is
available; but a create a kid mode is available that uses the touch
screen for touching up boards, and character looks. So, you can create
Cloud if you like. Sephiroth's character model is based on the original
FF7 style and not the Kingdom Hearts Style. Yuna is based off of her
FFX2 style. The Moogle is similar to the style used in Kingdom Hearts.
The game is eXpecteD to hit the slopes this November. More will be
shown at E3.
If that did not cure the winter blues, pay close attention to what I am going to tell you about the latest bit to pass through my sources from Majesco:
DS MOVIE Cards are in a testing phase so far and it looks like the
bottom screen will be used for player controls, while the top screen
will display the movie in full screen. The first ones being tested are
a compilation of new Spongebob Squarepants episodes (5 episodes), a
compilation of Pokemon Advance Generation episodes (4 episodes) and a
sample of the Powerpuff Girls Movie. The picture quality is greatly
improved in the new DS Movie Cards in comparison to the old GBA Video
Paks and is noticeably on par with UMD movies. The increased episode
count is good stuff. Although 2 episode DS Movie Cards are being
considered as a sub-$10 item. Well, enjoy the editorial, I'll add
reviews soon, and the next Viral Speak will be soon as well! Enjoy! -PAW- |
