GAME
BOY COLORS DARK, DIRTY SECRET!
It
appears that Nintendo had not fully tested Game Boy Color when it was released.
The intial releases of the virtually superior version of the almighty Game
Boy contain a sad flaw. Incompatability with some existing titles! Most
notably? "Pac-Man" from Namco. The sterling arcade game has SOUND
problems. As do some other notable games like "Road Rash", "Galaga/Galaxian",
and a few others that are not known at this present time.
There is a warning in the instruction manual for Game Boy Color that
warns that some Game Boy games may not work properly in Game Boy Color.
This is understandable. But the list of games is what doesn't make sense.
How could Nintendo's R & D, Game Testers, etc. Miss such a flaw; when
it involves titles like "Pac-Man", "Galaga/Galaxian", and "Road Rash"?
As we know, "Pac-Man" is still selling well. "Galaga/Galaxian" is almost
gold, and "Road Rash" will sell very well based on it's name. Such a sad
miniscule error could hurt sales of these titles. What is Nintendo doing
about this?
Several different calls to Nintendo's Phone Lines and service reps has
revealed that Nintendo's next batch of Game Boy Colors (The ones which
are said to be released in other colors besides Purple and Clear Purple.)
should be able to play the games correctly. Or the companies that make
the games will rerelease the games as Game Boy Color games.
If you have a game that has the following problems, call Nintendo at
1-800-255-3700 and let them know.
The symptoms are:
1. Sound that normally appears buzzes, sounds choppy, or plays a bit
than blanks out to silence.
2. Graphics look fine; than suddenly the game blanks out or freezes
up, only displaying one image. (Make sure your game and the Game Boy Color
are clean before calling in on this one. Also disconnect any type of cheat
device as it may be causing the problem.)
3. The Stereo emits a low buzz that grows higher and is not part of
the normal game.
Also be warned that because the Game Boy Color colorizes sprites; some
games will look horrible on it. (For example, Wario Land's default color
pallete looks really bad during the ending.)
Do not panic or get very upset; as Nintendo has assured me that they
are working on the problem. Thank you for your time. Now, back to playing
through Legend of Zelda DX for the 3rd time. :)
