Denver Comic Con Welcomes “Doctor Who” Star Karen Gillan DCC 2014

Features Extensive “Doctor Who” Programming, Actors, Writers and Crew

DENVER – May 30, 2014
Denver Comic Con and Literary Conference (DCC), a program of Comic Book Classroom (CBC) designed to help promote literacy through pop culture, today announced Karen Gillan as a guest the 2014 convention. Gillan will be appearing in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” later this summer and is best known as Amy Pond, the Doctor’s companion in “Doctor Who.”

DCC’s “Doctor Who” programming also includes multiple panel sessions, as well as writers, crew members and additional celebrity guests—including previously announced Sylvester McCoy, the seventh Doctor and Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor.

“With the number and quality of ‘Who’ guests and panels, DCC is essentially featuring a ‘Doctor Who’ convention within the convention—in fact, it’s going to be one of the largest in the country,” said Bruce MacIntosh, CBC chairman and director of DCC programming. “The show is so popular that we’ve tripled the number of panels each year.  In 2014, we’re going to have over 25 hours of programming about the various characters and elements of the show—and that doesn’t even count the standing-room only Q&A sessions in our massive Main Events Halls with the Doctor Who guests.”

In addition to DCC guests and programming, Comcast Xfinity is partnering with BBC America at the convention and will have Doctor Who-related themes, prize packs and other giveaways.

Additionally, along with activities and surprise guest appearances, the 8,000-square foot Comic Book Classroom Corral area on the show floor will feature “Doctor Who” crafting and other surprises for kids and teens.

As contracts are completed more guests will be added and additional panels will be scheduled. A complete list of “Doctor Who” and other pop culture and comic book guests can be found at www.DenverComicCon.com/dcc/guests.
