Super Smash Brothers. The first meeting of characters from a variety of Nintendo franchises. Mario, Link, Pikachu, Samus, etc. It was a big hit, and its sequel, "Super Smash Bros. Melee" is the #1 selling title for GameCube.

And yet, it is only the beginning.

Nintendo has worked with other companies,
such as Namco, Sega, and Capcom, on several of their top franchises. Capcom worked with Nintendo on their Game Boy Zelda titles. Namco worked on Donkey Konga and Star Fox Assault. But now, these companies are doing what was previously unthinkable.

They're inserting Nintendo's own characters in their titles.

The first game to do this was the GameCube version of Namco's "Soul Calibur 2",
which featured Link as an exclusive character. Electronic Arts is getting into the act by including Mario, Luigi, and Peach as playable characters in "NBA Street Vol. 3" and including "Super Punch Out!!" in "Fight Night Round 2" (Little Mac is also an unlockable character.). Even Konami's getting into the act, creating a version of their popular "Dance Dance Revolution" featuring Mario. And don't forget about "Pac-Man Vs.", which featured Namco's popular title with a Shigeru Miyamoto twist.

So, what's next?

Well, I'd love to see another Smash Bros. game,
maybe featuring Sonic, Tails, Mega Man, and Simon Belmont (for starters) as unlockable characters. But who knows? Maybe a meeting of Mario and Sonic isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
